Haugen, Brian MD
Just had eye surgery last week and it was a truly fabulous experience -- as much as any can be considering you're actually having something like this done. Dr. Haugen and his team are the consummate professionals, from the first diagnosis, to preparing all the minutia of the procedure and then at the hospital itself. His surgical director, Wanda is a calming partner to you throughout, answering questions and quiding you through all the preparation, forms etc.I never felt under an pressure to select a higher cost lens and Dr. Haugen was patient and extremely knowledgeable on what would be the optimal choice. The hospital team has worked with him for many years and the actual procedure was done without me being nervous. There are a lot of choices when it comes to medical or eye care in general, but I am so glad that I have Dr. Haugen and his office in my corner. I don't have to look any further for my long-term eye care.

Let me start by saying Dr. Haugen is nothing short of a miracle worker. I came in for a rather serious condition that is rare in people my age and his diagnosis and treatment were spot on. After a few treatments, my condition was cured and I couldn't be more relieved. I highly recommend Dr. Haugen to anyone needing a great doctor. His professional demeanor and positive attitude are what I look for in my physicians. Thanks Again Dr. Haugen

Cataract Surgery is a life changing experience. Overall, the whole process was smooth and efficient. If you are a time conscious Red bluffer considering Cataract surgery, I would recommend visiting this doctor for a consultation. Although thorough, they do not waste time. Pre/Post op the whole team is very helpful. I now see 20/20 in both eyes. It's an incredible experience to wake up every day and be able to see perfectly.

I just met Dr. Haugen for the first time this morning, I ended up getting something in my eye the staff worked me right into the schedule. I was nervous since I have only seen Dr. Cullum in the past but Dr. Haugen impressed me! He is wonderful. He was able to get the piece of wood out of my eye in a jiff and it felt so much better right away. Thank you Dr. Haugen.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Dr. Merry is very attentive and listens to your concerns. The turn around time on my glasses was so quick!! I've never had an eye doctor experience like this before. They were prepared for my visit and made a usually annoying experience pleasant. Will definitely come back again!

Tips & Advices
While the first appointment is the most comprehensive, the majority of appointments with an ophthalmologist begin with a basic eye exam followed by a refraction to test if glasses are needed. Other tests might include an eye muscle coordination exam, a check of pupil response and peripheral vision, slit lamp microscope test to look at the anterior segment of the eye, and an intraocular pressure assessment.
Most eye doctors will charge different amounts for their services, but a basic eye exam with an ophthalmologist can range from $50 to $300. Additional tests and treatment will add to the price.
Ophthalmology subspecialties include strabismus/pediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, retina/uveitis ophthalmology, cornea/anterior segment ophthalmology, ophthalmic plastic surgery, and reconstruction.
Ophthalmologists can diagnose macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, ocular albinism, vitreous traction, cataracts, astigmatism, myopia, retinoblastoma, and many more.
The most popular ophthalmology procedures are cataract, laser eye treatment, and glaucoma surgeries.
