Whether you need a something silly for a costume party or something nice for a big event, you're sure to find it at Mr. Formal's Clearance Outlet. The prices are better than any place in town (especially overpriced "Vintage Clothing" stores) and the service is great (no pushy salespeople, thank God). While you're there, get on their mailing list for their annual warehouse sale in October -- I've found some wicked nice deals.

I was a bit anxious about shopping for my wedding gown. I'm not young, I'm not skinny, and I was operating on a limited budget - all things that create snooty disdain in bridal consultants. From the moment my friend and I arrived, it was a great experience. We were early for my appointment, but someone greeted us, gave us a tour of the shop, and made herself available for our questions while we browsed. The selection was incredible, and the sample sale was the best I have ever seen. A lot of bridal shops have a ""sample sale"" that consists of a couple dozen gowns at 10 or 20% off - not Charlotte's! Most of my favorites were 75% off. Once I started trying things on, I knew I was in good hands. Suzanne was fantastic! She was energetic, creative, and genuinely excited about my mission for the perfect gown. She told me about all of the ways that the gowns could be altered, and had great ideas for accessorizing. She didn't care in the least that I was mostly looking at the sale gowns, either. So I found the perfect gown, had a custom veil ordered, and the search was over. My impression of Charlotte's is that they are true professionals who really care about their brides. I highly recommend them!

Men's Wearhouse, 6th AVE, Downtown Portland, OR. I needed a suit for a wedding and I've always used Men's Wearhouse for weddings. This time it is my wedding and I wanted to look good-- and he guarantees it! The manager talked me into buying any second suit of equal or less value for a $100 bucks. She wanted me to pick it out quickly and she said I could always exchange it. They did not honer that deal when I needed to exchange that second suit. The next day I picked up my original suit for the wedding, but I had to ask to try it on. The young gentleman said ok and asked me if I wanted to try on the pant too. Of course I wanted to try on the entire suit and it's a good thing I did because the pants are three inches too short. I now have in possession, my wedding suit that doesn't fit and a second suit still being tailored. I will take my suit to another shop for professional alterations and I'll see how the second suit turns out.
