We have eaten at House of Louie for almost 30 yrs....it has become a family favorite and we have celebrated many happy occasions here. After being away from Portland for a few years, we came back to see that the establishment had ""shrunk"" in size and was not nearly as busy as it used to be. We still come for the Mandarin Chicken & Chow Fun (hard to find in many chinese restaurants) and have never once been disappointed by the food. Service used to be excellent, it has faltered on occasion, but the food is always worth it. Sad to see so many bad reviews; guess we have been very lucky with our visits here.

I see many reviews below are over a year ago and I don't know if it was before the change of owner or not. We came for their hot pot buffet last week and their self serve seafood entrees were fresh and abundant. The clam and shirmp were huge, the fish although frozen was very tasteful. Definately coming back.

I have read the reviews on here and have to strongly disagree with some peoples opinion of the staff! I don't think they are rude or standoffish at all! You just have to get to know them. They don't always understand things the same way you do, not everyone was born here or has excellent English! However, once the staff gets to know you they are wonderful and very personable! My family loves to go there, my children ask to go there every year for their birthday dinners!!! The staff come over and welcome us when we walk through the door and talk to the kids and are genuinely happy to see us! The food is excellent also! My husband is Chinese and this is the ONE AND ONLY restaurant that we can take his family to when they come visit and not have them complain about ""American Chinese Food""!!! We have been going for 15years and will continue to go there until it closes or we can no longer drive! As for all of you not tipping, maybe you should think more about why they are uncomfortable and don't talk much. It is horribly rude not to tip, maybe don't tip so much but to not tip, that is stupid! They are not there to hold your hand, they take your order, bring the food, fill your water, and give you the bill. Anyways, if you don't come back...well the quicker my family and I can get in and eat!!! If you love excellent Chinese food, try Thien Hong...just expect that until they are comfortable with you, the staff will seem a bit standoffish, give them time, it is well worth it!!!!!

We have lived in Oregon for almost 13 years now and have been on the search for food that reminds us of home in all of the Asian flavors and this place is the closest. We eat here at least 2 - 3 times a month.\r \r People need to understand that the Chinese culture is not the same as the American culture. What you may think is rude is normal for their culture, so before you post something rude think twice about both sides of the cultural barrier (yes, I am part Chinese).\r \r I strongly suggest the salt and pepper squid, the salt and pepper tofu, the green beans with beef and black bean sauce, the chow fun noodles, and quite a few other dishes that I can't recall right now.\r \r Just be forewarned that they have a bar with Karaoke and if you don't mind the noise the food is worth the trip.

These people are obviously not going to the same restaurant as I am. The food is great and I happen to be Chinese. I recently moved into the Woodstock area and happen upon this little restaurant and they really make good dishes especially General Chicken which is my favorite and the Lo mein is define. The restaurant gone through some changes and upgrades the booths and hired a wonderful new waitress name Mimi which makes the place even better
Seems like we hit a network glitch.
