Night Clubs in Portland, ME

The staff and patrons, most of them are warm and enjoyable, accomodating sand friendly. You gotta come out on saturday night and you best wear comfortable footwear and be in the mood to dance. The place comes to life around 11pm and when the dj gets on a roll he'll play 10-12 songs in a row cutting edge and top 40 and you'll be estatic. Its a fun place and if not for any reason other than to come out to meet me and dance with me hang out have a few drinks and check out all the eye candy. the girls are barely dressed, most of the men get down to it too and the shot staff takes it off as the night progresses... My name is Miss Candace and I wanna see you there. Ill cover a few drinks for you if you are solo and a round if you are with company...

As an old guard music person and traveler to music events and clubs here and abroad, The Asylum is a great venue. The room is large enough and setup to provide the best acoustics for the bands - the sound man on top of things. They have great access and exits in case there was a problem (an important thing in a club with large crowds). Perhaps a bit more seating & tables would be my wish for the future (but then that makes it harder to negotiate the room too and I realize that). My first event there will not be my last since I know that I will take-in my fill of the music. The drinks were not* watered down and the staff is very friendly. They have a very professional and well trained security staff who know how to let the crowd have fun, be there - yet not be seen. What more can you ask for. The food menu is basic but well done and the Sports bar has everything you could want or need. You are well taken care of - but not ""bothered"" by the staff. A very comfortable venue that - as a music/event venue - is just wonderful.

Sure sure, I know a lot of people see my con, and think ""forget this place"". Don't. Sure, they are bitchy and rude. They're slammed, and don't have time to wait. There's 2, maybe 3 of them back there, and the house is packed with 350 thirsty customers. Get yourself two drinks at a time, and then turn around... Why? Because you're not there to chat up the bartenders. You're there to dance, and people watch, and oh, what great people watching there is. They spin solid dance grooves, from today's urban hits, mix in some classic dance, some techno... If it makes you bump and grind, they spin it.

I have been to Rivalries now about 4 times and I have to say it has, hands down, the worst pub food I've ever had. I have tried full meals along with apps each time I've gone and have been really disappointed each time. The apps are very greasy (yes, I know - it IS pub food, but that doesn't mean the grease needs to be in a little pool on top of everthing). The bread they use for thier sandwiches is very dry and unfresh. The food in general doesn't have alot of flavor. The location is great and the ambiance is pretty decent but the food is very bland, along with the waitresses - no personalities whatsoever and actually pretty rude. This place could be so good - but it just isn't.

A great place for no-nonsense fun. People call it a dive, but those days are long-gone. It's a great place to hang out with buddies and make new ones as well! A perfect place for people-watching (inside and out). Feel free to let loose, but don't misbehave, because, while cute and sweet, these bartenders are not going to put up with BS , and you WILL get kicked out if you act like a jerk. The girls that work there are all gorgeous and entertaining, but if you are lucky, you will catch Bob on a weekday night. Don't be fooled by his rough exterior, he is one of the nicest and funniest bartenders around. They just don't make em like that anymore! :)

Dinner at the Grill Room and Bar was an overall great experience, the menu reaching out to us the moment we arrived. Unfortunately for my date they were not serving Swordfish as the quality available was not up to par, our server explained, so he opted for the seared tuna cooked rare. I chose the Rainbow trout, and to start we had olives and escargot. I found the escargot flavor to be delicious while my date (who knows his snails!) thought it a bit too chewy, and less on the tender side. As for our main meals my fish came with sauteed spinach and lobster mashed potatoes in a buerre blanc sauce - and it was the perfect pairings and portions. I have never tasted lobster mashed potatoes before and the pieces of lobster were noticeable and flavorful. The tuna was a bit of a disappointment - although delicious, the tuna was not served hot enough as it should be for a rare sear. It was purported to come with an arugula salad - that ended up being just a mere ""garnish"" and the smashed potatoes? True to form, they looked like someone had smashed them with a fork. We finished with the strawberry sorbet which was refreshing and full of flavor. Overall the experience was good and I would return, I just would be a bit more specific or ask more questions about the meals before ordering.

The food is outstanding from the pizza to haddock to wings. There are nightly specials and the prices are beyond reasonable for what you get. There is a moderately good selection of liquor and beer, with some top shelf items for liquor (I drink Johnnie Walker Black and they do not have it). They have very cheap beer specials nightly, and Miller High Life for $1.75. The crowd is always friendly and they have Trivia on Sunday nights that is very entertaining.

Definitely a place to go to if you're in the Portland area. The atmosphere is stellar no matter what time of day you go. The food is funky, creative, and tasty to boot. I have never met a more considerate waitstaff then these guys. They befriend you for the 45 minutes you're there, and it only enhances the expierence.

Cinque Terre is remarkable, plain and simple. I travel to Portland frequently for work and the food in the city is great but Cinque Terre is always a cut above the rest. I've eaten there three times and every time has been an experience. I've ordered the five course meal twice (Tasting menu) and each time has been remarkable. Of course, the portions aren't enormous in this type of meal but they are good sized and you are certainly full at the end. The wine selection is also great and the various wait staff have been both cordial and knowledgeable. I'm surprised by the woman who complained about the size of her fish but I suppose the US has become acclimated to enormous portions and doggie bags so I'd take that review with a grain of salt. The risotto is excellent and the short ribs are to die for. In fact, I can't remember having a sub-par course on any visit I've made. It is a bit expensive but you certainly get what you pay for. For a tasting menu and wine pairing (five glasses), I paid $150 for my girlfriend and myself. I often am disappointed by expensive restaurants but Cinque Terre is incredible without going over the top.
