VCA Northview Animal Hospital Specialty Referral Center
I can't hardly type the emotion of feeling like your among Angels. My miniature schnauzer was rescued by me in 2012. His previous owner was sweet, but due to loss she was unable to care for him. In turn her family sought a new owner to care for him the way she knew he deserved. I regret to say he was taken to a vet 2 days later, and tested positive for Lyme Disease. Thus majorly compromising his immune and digestive system. This entails frequent trips to the vet, or if it's after hours an ER. I had been going horribly wrong taking him to CH road ER... HORRIBLE. How dose a vet that owns that very same breed misdiagnose (imo), prescribe contra indicated meds for his health history, & not give discharge instruction ( be it vet or tech). Did I mention we waited 41/2 hours to be seen. that was not the only despicable visit to ERWAN2BE. although it was my last. Therefore, I was reluctant to take him anywhere but his primary. On Sunday night at 9:30 we had no choice considering his condition. There is a measurable increase in the way he received care at VCA. Not that I put a price on his life, but the final cost was far less than ERWAN2BE. Worth my time and dime! I even switched to them for his primary care. The other doesn't offer that option. His case, and records are better under one umbrella of ethical people that really do care. Perhaps you should take some advice from an pet parent/ furbaby advocate. When it's critical, or a yearly this VCA without prejudice and hostility saved my little family. I recommend them to people in and outside of the city.

Greentree Animal Clinic
I cannot praise this place enough. I have worked as a vet tech in a previous job and have had experiences at numerous facilities here in Pittsburgh and Greentree Animal Clinic blows them all out of the water. Key things that you should note about this place:* They do not over charge* They only recommend services/things that they genuinely believe will help your pet, not their bottom line and they do not pressure you in any way* They are respectful and genuine to you and your pet which is hard to come by nowadays* Everyone there is patient and understanding. No condescension or poor attitudes, just positive energy all around. * They have an online pet portal so you can track your pet's vaccinations/appointments and care.* Dr Brown goes above and beyond any vet I've ever met. He has shown so much care, professionalism, kindness and knowledge that I will gladly refer anyone with a pet to him because I know they will be in good hands and his fellow vets (Dr Reuther, Dr Kelly, and Dr Mann) are just as phenomenal. Thankyou Greentree Animal Clinic for setting the bar where it should be for all Veterinary Care Facilities.

Always Compassionate Veterinary Care
I struggled with my Lab's intestinal issues for over a year - he was okay for weeks and then suffer diarrhea for days for no reason as his diet/environmental exposure had not changed. My old ver and I tried, I thought, everything, with disappointing results.A friend recommended ACVC and, within 2 visits, all Buddy's issues were resolved. Dr. Terlesky thoroughly examined him, suggesting a supplement along with adding natural, healthy fiber (pumpkin). She then immediately came up with a plan of action which has work perfectly. She even called me after my first visit as she was thinking about Buddy and had a thought she wanted to share with me. She was informative while remaining kind, compassionate, and patient. The staff has always been engaging, very friendly, and helpful and, I am grateful to all.

North Boros Veterinary Hospital
This vet practice is great. Just what I was looking for my dog. Great feature: Mon - Fri walk-in appointments, including an exam by the vet!! Friendly staff, competitive pricing, convenient location. Call backs for blood testing were right on time. My dog got nervous and made a little mess in lobby and the staff was understanding, handled it promptly. My bill was explained to me and no one rushed me through the process. They also managed my kitty when I had to euthanize her. The staff and doctor were compassionate and dignified about the event, no pressure, respected my wishes and were gentle with her. I really appreciate this vet hospital for their competency and compassion.

Thornwood Veterinary Hospital.
I think the people writing the negative reviews need to realize what the purpose of a vet is. It's not to be your best friend and joke around with you, it's to treat your animal and make sure they feel better!! While the Dr is eccentric, he is brilliant and knows what he is doing. We brought him a 5 week old kitten with some kind of parasite in her chest and he extracted it and took great care of her. He gave me so much information about how to care for her and what to do with her. So he's not the most friendly Dr- his job isn't to be friendly. I think people really need to stop being sensitive and "man up" if you will- we got great affordable care from a knowledgeable doctor.

Thornwood Veterinary Hospital.
I have been going to Thornwood for over 20 years with my cats and dogs, he is extremely intelligent and some people have a hard time understanding him because of his scientific explanations. I have a science background so I do see where people may think he is being cold or rude, when really they just aren't understanding the medical terminology. He is the most reasonable priced, up front and honest vet I have ever met. I have been ripped off and lied to when I've used anyone else during emergencies when Dr. was not available. I had my cat put down several months ago and the staff couldn't have been more kind.

Holiday Park Animal Hospital
I am very happy with my experience at Holiday Park Animal Hospital! I have been taking my 2 cats here for a couple years and I have never been unhappy with the care that I have received. Dr J and his nurses are always so kind and happy to help ... I have called many times for last minute situations and they always find time to squeeze me in. also, if you call after hours the phone goes to Dr J's cell , which definitely puts me at ease. They are always willing to listen to your concerns and most importantly they provide quality veterinary care.

North Boros Veterinary Hospital
I had taken my Great Dane here before she passed of old age & now I take my 3 cats. I have received nothing but the best care for my pets & cannot understand the negative reviews posted on here. Staff has always been friendly & caring with my animals. Surgery was performed on my one cats tail when it was accidentally shut in a door. They were able to save his tail and checked up on him every day following the surgery. He has full use of his tail thanks to North Boros!

Greentree Animal Clinic
I would highly recommend going to Greentree Animal Clinic. Both of my cats went there, and the staff was very caring from the front desk to the vets. Since both my animals have passed on, and they sent me on both occasions a lovely sympathy card. My one cat was put down at a totally different vets office cause he needed emergency care. Only downfall of the office is that they are not an emergency clinic. But I know for sure when I'm ready for another I will surely be calling.

Thornwood Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Schuerger and his staff are wonderful. I have been to many other vets and always come back to him. Their prices are reasonable and he truly cares about the pet. He does not try to push expensive and unnecessary procedures. To the people who comment on his personality, would you rather have someone who knows what they are doing or nice to talk to? If you are respectful to him he will be the same. Will recommend thornwood veterinary hospital to everyone i know
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
