This place is great! I live fairly close and this is my happy hour spot, go to spot to take the kids when I don't feel like cooking, and the real reason i come back all the time is that the bartenders and staff are so friendly! In the past year the food has gotten 100% better with an authentic chef taking over the kitchen. Definately recommend!

This night out had the potential to be pleasant and was wrecked by our trip to Savoy. All started out well with our party of 5 celebrating a couple occasions. Initially the service was alright, the atmosphere a bit pretentious but acceptable. I won't speak for those eating the other meals other than to say the reviews were mixed, however, I will speak to mine. I ordered the Beef Two Ways, a cube of filet and sliced brisket with mushrooms. The portion size was on the small end for the price but not terrible. The brisket was done quite well and actually very good, not so with the filet. The tiny (1.25"") cube of filet was cooked to the proper state and looked nice, albeit small, and when I took my fork to it there was a 1/2"" SLAB OF FAT all the way down the side of it! DISGUSTING! For a $35 plate this should be Excellent and it's not even close. Thouroughly dissappointed with my meal, I decided to step outside and have a smoke. Mind you, I'm the one picking up the tab for this evening. After 5 minutes outside having a smoke while waiting for another round of cocktails, I open the door only to have a ""security"" guy come running to stop me! I was then told in a very unpleasant tone that I wasn't allowed in the restaurant because my shoes don't meet thier dress code! It was fine an hour ago.....but now I am no longer an acceptable customer! I explained tersly that I was in the middle of my dinner already and was finally allowed to reenter. Upon be PERMITTED to return to my table I took a look around at some of the other guests...one gentleman dressed in a jogging suit and sneakers, another in designer jeans and chuck taylor sneakers. This sealed the deal for me. I purposly didn't make an issue at that moment as the night was to be celebrating events for two others in our party but i can tell you this: I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS PLACE AGAIN! The food was mediocre, the service was slow and I nearly got thrown out before I paid the $250 bill!

Sure the wait can be a while on the weekends, but how is that different from any other popular restaurant? The music and memorabilia make this a fun place to eat. Even while waiting, you can pass the time in the little shop or walk around and see all of the differents artists memorabilia, including The Beatles and KISS. The workers are very friendly and have always pleased me.

My Friends and I checked this place out on Saturday Night, It was very Nice. Finally a Dance floor you can dance without people smashed together and walking through. Very easy to get drinks, and it wasn't a sweat box like other places in south side. Bathrooms are not nice, but the are big and no long lines. Plus we didn't have to drive around forty times looking for parking.

Was the ID that was taken a fake ID or was it the person's actual ID? I was there one night and I saw the bouncer take a fake ID. I understand that. But if it was real, that is something different.

We were visiting from out of town and the bartender here made us feel right at home. Would recommend to anyone wanting to hang out on an afternoon in the South Side, in a place you can hear yourself think (no loud music). Great for gathering with friends. Flat screen TV's in all the booths- that's cool. Dialy specials are nice, and the place has character.

This lounge has everything!! A great atmosphere, nice bartenders, great drinks, a great wine list, local beer; and the best small menu!! I actually got healthy, delicious, organic food. It was so nice to go to a lounge and be able to talk to the person I am with! There are not any tvs so people arent screaming at the game. The decor is relaxing and the music is great! We also went on acoustic night the sound for the musicians is awesome! Met the owners last time we went; so nice and a great vision for Lower Lawrenceville. I also had the best gyro in Pittsburgh!! Definately a place to go again and again!!

We booked a family party at Mansion on Fifth Ave in July (2011). It is a beautiful place for any special event. However, the fell short of even standard service with extremely high fees/taxes/and ""add-ons"" to everything possible. They are disorganized and certainly not professional--added $2000 on to our bill (denied at first, then told ""mistake"").\r The air conditioner did not cool rooms; only the owner knew how to work music system and she left after 15 minutes. The drinks had little alcohol. No one/Manager directed party event. I had to repeatedly ask to clean dishes of tables and wipe off. They seem very new at this and do not deliver exceptional service for extremely high costs($$$$)\r Common Plea caters their parties and they book numerous parties at the same time, which means ""hit or miss"" regarding your party's food standards....ours was poor.\r Be diligent regarding your bill and get a contract checklist that they will deliver on everything they say they can do.....or guaranteed disappointment with their service.\r Mona Orsini, Pgh., PA

17.Thirty First Street Pub
3101 Penn Ave
The Pub is one of the best places in the city to see a good, old school rock and roll show. The drinks are relatively inexpensive and the atmosphere actually feels like a rock club. There's tons of old rock and roll memorabilia hanging on the walls and ceiling: Hellacopters, Supersuckers, all kinds of great stuff. It's like a rock and roll museum right there at the end of the 31st Street Bridge.
18.Max's Allegheny Tavern
537 Suismon St
I've visited Max's once or twice a year since the mid nineties. I've travelled extensively and have never found a restaurant in the US with better German food than Max's. Sorry for not citing particulars but I really don't eat there that often. Let's just say I've never been disappointed by the food. When I host out of town guests I usually take them to Max's because good German restaurants are actually very rare. As for the staff, well... they come and go. Recently, I came in for some Kotzritzer (super good dark beer) and an appetizer. The barmaid was very nice and attentive. I must say it was nice but not what I've come to expect. Maybe they read these reviews and have changed some things. In any event, if you want to try authentic German cuisine, I say give this place a chance. You'd be missing out if you don't.

Got ""dragged"" here for a coworker's birthday and must say it was a surprisingly fun time. I had read some of the reviews and was nervous that this was going to be a litle overly hipster and that my lack of tattoos and piercings would leave me twittling my thumbs in a corner. Alas I was proven completely wrong. Great crowd, stiff drinks, and a killer 80s dj. Will surely not be such a grump going into the night the next time I'm invited back.
3239 W Liberty Ave
Very fun bar. College aged crowd, usually filled with South Hills kids looking to spend their parents money. Friendly bartenders and gorgeous waitresses. Drink specials every night. Owner is quite nice, always has a funny story to tell, overall great guy. Awesome kegs and eggs for St. Patty's day before you head down town. Marine Corps birthday party is always a good time! Would recommend this bar to anyone looking to have a good time.

Live jazz in Pittsburgh is experiencing a ""Renaissance"" and although the overall following is not as strong as it used to be, it is refreshing to see so many new establishments hosting Live Jazz nights. The Firehouse Lounge has one of my favorite Pittsburgh performers, Etta Cox, on Thursday nights. I have not been to the Firehouse on one of the weekend nights, but I will tell you that this is one of the most beautiful spaces in the city. The staff is friendly, go twice and they'll remember your name, the food is excellent (try the burgers), and how can you beat 1/2 off of wine bottles? The best part about this jazz night is that you can still hear yourself talk and you don't leave smelling like cigarettes, a big bonus. \r \r The Firehouse Lounge is a perfect place for a first date or a night out with a group. Thursdays are great for an older audience especially lovers of jazz.
