General InfoSonny's is known for its authentic, award-winning Philly Cheesesteaks just a few blocks from the Liberty Bell and National Constitution Center in the heart of historic Old City, Philadelphia. Sonny's is continually ranked number one on Philly Cheesesteak top ten lists, notably by GQ in 2014. We care about our sandwiches. We use 100% fresh Angus beef and slice it fresh every morning (most places order it sliced). Each sandwich is individually prepared to order (versus the now common practice of producing a batch of sandwiches at once). That's why both tourists and locals frequent Sonny's -- it's real, it's genuine, and it's delicious. Sonny's Cheesesteaks is in downtown Philly, convenient to hotels and sightseeing hubs. Tour groups and school groups flow in and out of local hotspot. We provide discounts to groups that book in advance on our website. We also have discounts for US Military, police officers, students and more! We pride ourselves on our friendliness. We love newcomers and are eager to teach folks everything and anything about cheesesteaks. Don't get nervous ordering, and please, ask questions! Sonny's is the real deal Philly cheesesteak experience -- and it's easy to get to by foot, cab, or subway (SEPTA 2nd Street Station). Feel free to call for directions or check online.

I would equate this steak to one I had from Rick Olivieri's at the Reading Terminal Market. Thick, chewey sparse meat. Roll was decent. Not that cheap at $10.25 for steak and a soda including an extra $.75 for some shrooms. No thanks. Campo's is close and much better. D'allesandro's, Jim's Steaks, and even Phil's in Berwyn are much better.
Really good and the guy behind the counter was so nice. The concierge at my hotel recommended them. It was a quick walk down market street. There is another place a half block away and I got identical steaks from each place to compare with my husband. This place was much better. And the people at Campos were downright rude.
Sonny's seem to put more cheese wiz in their steak, which makes it really good. Olde City is a nice place to visit at nite too. The staff was extremely friendly; it is a nice place to sit and eat. I really like the old posters they hung up instead of the usually celebrities. Overall...good food.
It was my first Philly Cheesesteak experience. I was not impressed. The cheesesteak was good, but not as good as the price. The sparse environment reminded me of a franchise restaurant, and the staff acted as if I was bothering them when I placed my order. I could definitely appreciate the place after a late night at the bars, though.
This is the best steak i've ever had in my life. Pat's is great - still the second best i've ever had, but the quality of the meat at Sonny's puts it on top. It's also nice that it's located in Olde City, which makes it convenient.
Sonny's is, without a doubt, the best cheesesteak place in Philly. I agree that Pats, Gino, Jims, and all the others are good, but this place brings it up a notch. First of all, they fill the cheesesteak with more steak, plain and simple. Next, the staff is extremely friendly, something which you never see at Pats and Ginos. Finally, its location makes it much easier to get to unless you live in South Philly. Its right at the 2nd st. stop of the El on Market street.
Bite to eat, fast, the best in the area and an awesome outside invironment.
