Gulf Atlantic Industries Disaster Relief
06/01/2017Do not use this company. Shoddy work and even worse customer service. Did a tear-off and complete roof over. Mind you the old roof never leaked. I have a flat roof over an addition that was leaking the day after it was installed. As I write the roof has a couple of inches of water on it and the water is raining down inside my house ruining a hardwood floor and ceiling. Called company at 7:30 am and never got a response until after 9 am. No sense of urgency and it is now 1 pm and nobody has shown up to stop the water from coming in. Customer service is non-existent. Every employee except one has been rude and uncaring. How does this company stay in business? It would take too long to list all the shoddy things that were done to my home. STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AS YOU CAN. The pic is of all the water on my roof. The others are the inside where the water is coming in.4:00 pm and roofing company still has not come out to stop the water intrusion. I had to call a water litigation company and now have numerous holes in my ceiling to try to dry it out. Looks like we will be taking these con artists to court. Now onto spending $150 to have another company come out to put tarps on.

Community Thrift Boutique
Wonderful little gem right across from the beach on A1A. Ladies, men's clothing- upscale name brands, plus sizes, and furniture, antiques, books and kitchen items. More of an antique shop than a thrift store. Everything is organized and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. All proceeds go to support a home for homeless and abused families.

This store is a joke. Never any new items. Prices higher than a real antique store. I think people are being fooled into thinking this is a charitable enterprise.

Tips & Advices
If there is ever a dispute regarding payment over the course of the project, a contractor or subcontractor could place a payment claim, or lien, on your property. To avoid this, ask the contractor to sign a lien release, which is a legal agreement that states that any payment accepted is final. This can come in handy if a contractor has his or her own payment issues with their subcontractors. Signing a lien release form certifies that any payment made by a client to the contractor is enough to pay for any goods or services rendered.
Absolutely ask. Paying too much up front offers the homeowner minimal leverage if the quality of work does not meet expectations or contractual specifications. Try to establish a reasonable pay schedule, such as paying 10 percent of the total cost for each 10 percent of the work that is completed. Include this payment plan in the contract, as well.
Before any money changes hands, there should be a contract to sign. Make sure the specifics of the work and all costs are listed in the contract, including details. If you forget to have something included in the contract after signing it, there's rarely a chance of recourse.
Ask the contractor for proof of their certification before signing anything, as well as their proof of insurance. You should also check your homeowners insurance policy to see if they offer coverage for contracted work. You may want to call your insurance provider and ask for more details on what your plan will and won't cover.
Yes. Plans for how the work site will be cleaned at the end of each day as well as at the conclusion of work need to be put in writing. An experienced general contractor should make every effort to keep the workspace clean and prevent dirtying or damaging any other area. Even so, talk with the contractor about the daily schedule, the logistics of transporting workers and equipment, and how cleanup will be handled.
