I must admit that I'm absolutely paranoid about quality eye care, especially since my mom lost her sight. Fortunately, I was introduced to Dr. Carl Gaterbaum by my brother after moving here seven years ago. My every concern has been addressed in detail, and I have total confidence that my eyes are being well cared for.Dr. Gaterbaum is the epitome of professionalism. He is extremely knowledgeable about anything relating to your eyes. A warm and sensitive man, he is kind, caring, an attentive listener, And he has invested in the most sophisticated eye care technology to scrutinize every nuance of your eyesight. You'll quickly discover that he truly cares about you!For my eyes, he discovered a number of issues over these seven years, all now being treated and consistently monitored. For example, he caught the onset of glaucoma, detected a rise in my eye pressure, found that the canals above my eyes were narrowing; he has referred me to a carefully chosen specialist for evaluation of those canals, as well as the possible removal of cataracts, which should help my sight immensely. The office staff is also wonderful, thorough in every way; nothing slips through the cracks. It is led by Shelley, with a wealth of experience and a crackerjack in all matters concerning your well-being as it relates to the front office. Nothing is a problem for Shelley; you'll be in good hands. To be perfectly candid, I love this team, particularly its sensitivity and obvious concern for all of us. I owe my brother a huge debt of gratitude because, without his referral, my eyes might well be in dire straits.

I hardly ever write reviews but I thought the service was atrocious. I can't stress enough how important office staff is to a Doctor's office. Dr. Guzak was great. He was very professional and thorough with my daughter's exam. One of the ladies at the front desk was very rude. I don't know if she has a bias towards people who don't look like her or if she was having multiple bad days but the 3 times I saw her in the office, she didn't smile and was very abrupt. My daughter ended up getting very expensive eyeglasses and contacts. When we came in to pick up the eyeglasses, this particular staff member looked put off and said the contacts were not in. We stopped in a few weeks later and again this staff member said the contacts were not in. I soon forgot about them until my daughter reminded me about them a few days ago. Now, 4 months later, I stopped by the office and finally picked them up. The rude woman was not working this particular day. The office person had to rifle through cabinets to look for them. They never once called me to let me know the contacts had arrived.

Very pleased to find this place after visiting many eyeglass stores without success. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was able to find an excellent set of frames within my price range, and the lenses will have a premium coating, transitions and some other desirable features at a surprisingly low price. Definitely the best eyeglass place I have found in Orlando! Highly recommend.

It takes me forever to make decisions, especially with all the glasses they have to choose from but the staff found me a great pair and I couldn't be happier with my new glasses!..I get tons of compliments on them. Dr. Nowell was great and very thorough with explaining everything throughout my exam. I will definitely be bringing the rest of my family here!

Dr Marrian Tucker is by far the best optometrist I've ever been to. She's very professional and takes her time in examining your eyes. I've been seeing her since '09 and she recently opened up her own office. I can't thank her and her staff enough for how comfortable they make me feel and the superb service they provide.

Tips & Advices
To find a professional that fits your needs and wants, look for an optometrist with the proper licensing and compliance with state-specific legalities as well as these qualities: attentiveness, ability to listen, ethics, compassion, ability to communicate effectively and willingness to spend time with patients.
Vision, like dental, is often an additional voluntary cost for employers who provide health care coverage. As a result, it may not be included in basic company-sponsored insurance. Those who do have access to this type of coverage - or Medicare - often only pay for a portion of their eye exam services.
The cost of an appointment with an optometrist varies based on the services required. While a typical eye exam can range from $50 to $250, depending on location. If if glasses or contact lenses are prescribed, or tests are needed, the overall expense of an optometrist visit can increase.
The American Optometric Association recommended that patients have their first eye exam at six months of age, followed by another at 3 years old, and again at school age. At that point, Regular annual exams are recommended.
Ophthalmologists are eye doctors that have received higher levels of training than both opticians and optometrists, and can also perform eye surgery when necessary. Opticians design and fit eyeglasses, frames, and lenses that are prescribed by optometrists and ophthalmologists. They do not perform vision tests or write prescriptions for visual aids. Optometrists fall between ophthalmologists and opticians. Optometrists can detect and treat eye abnormalities, prescribe lenses, and complete eye exams, but cannot perform eye surgery.
