Shipman Auto Repair
Hey Joe N-I am not an employee of Shipman Auto Repair but I can certainly tell you I observed what all they did for you and your vehicle. Not only did they trouble shoot your vehicle for HOURS and HOURS and did NOT charge you for that - it was a mess from what the mechanics stated. They gave you world class customer service and straightened up the terrible mess that someone left. You should be very happy about what they did for you and it cost you only a fraction of what they should have charged you. The dealership would have charged you four times what they did!Shipman Auto Repair is owned and operated by first class business people with only Master Mechanics. I have seen all types of customers with vehicles from old Mustangs, classic trucks, old and new GM, Cadillacs and imports including Hummers! They work alongside NAPA and other reputable vendors and stand behind their work and products. One customer in particular had their AC repaired at an out of state repair shop and only a few months later the same compressor went out and it would have cost thousands to repair!! Michael Shipman worked diligently with NAPA and not only found out the part was warrantied but did not even charge labor to install because NAPA stood behind the parts and labor!! NO ONE would have done that. I have trusted them for both of my vehicles and have seen more people come in there that I have personally referred to them and they would not go ANYWHERE else. They are THE BEST and Joe - you should remove your post. That is not true and they were much too generous and professional for you. Carolyn W

I have used this place twice. The first time I used them I brought in my car which was probably 3 or 4 years old. I was concerned because I had seen some cars that were several years old and had received body work but, because of the age of the car the color didn't match and they didn't look nice. I was so happy when I picked up my car and found that I could not tell where the damage had been. Perfect match, perfect work, perfect satisfaction.Recently I brought in my new (3 month old) car with white pearl paint. I had a little encounter with a mailbox on the back left fender. I expressed to them how pleased I had been with their work and they assured me that they would make me happy and that their work is guaranteed for as long as I own the car. Again, I received a perfect job and the people are so nice to work with. Their prices are better than any other estimates I received and it is just a pleasure doing business with them. Though I sure hope I don't need their services again, I know I will get great work at a reasonable price. I highly recommend Orange Park Carsmetics.

Shipman Auto Repair
I was referred to Shipman Auto from another establishment and was told to speak initially with Ruth as she was very down to earth and makes you feel comfortable. On my way there I was not only frustrated, but skeptical, mainly because I'am a woman and I have been taken advantage of in the past, that I thought this experience was going to be more of the same. I couldn't of been more wrong and I'm so glad I was. Upon arrival, Ruth immediately realized that I was the referral, stopped what she was doing shooke my hand, introduced herself and immediately put me at ease. After telling her what problems I was having, I was introduced to Michael and he looked at my car thoroughly came back and told me his findings and the rest is history. As crazy as this may sound, I look forward to having Mike work on my car becasue that means I get to visit with Ruth and watch her's and Mike's professionalism and down to earth demeanor first hand. They truly are family to me and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you Ruth and Mike.

Jose M Auto Repair
This man saved my Protege5. My mazda had a blown head gasket and I was in desperate need to get it fixed. Other big automotive repair shops wanted up to $1500 or more and I knew it shouldn't cost that much since my engine is simple. Jose only charged $875 and I couldn't back out of that deal. (Funny, my car started and ran fine with a blown head gasket until I dropped it off and he tried to start it, dying instantly.) Jose knows what he is doing. At first I was skeptical about the place and had some doubts but Jose definitely proved me wrong. If anyone needs assistance with their vehicles, take it to Jose. He gives you a fair price rather than an over-exaggerated price like most do. He takes his time and doesn't rush; making sure everything gets done right. I plan on returning in the future if any repairs come across. Thanks Jose!

Shipman Auto Repair
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Shipman Auto Repair!!! I am a travel nurse, and I get penalized for missed days from work. When I told them of my situation, they put me at the top of their priority list, and within less than 2 hours, had gotten the needed part from NAPA, installed, test drove, topped off fluids, and made me feel right at home. Master mechanic Mark spoke with my husband long distance on the phone to assure him that just what was necessary, and nothing additional was being performed on my car. I was back at work before lunchtime!! Incredible service, professional staff, clean facility, and very reasonable prices!!! I highly recommend this awesome facility to anyone! Thanks to Ruth, Mike, and Mark at Shipman!!

First Coast Diesel Performance, Inc
Recently, during a cold spell, my F250 wouldn't crank over. Being new to the area, I had no idea who to call, and I found this business. I was hesitant, because I knew nothing of their business practices (honesty, customer service, etc.) Had my truck towed to their business. These guys are top notch!!! Justin, the service manager was upfront, knowledgeable, and I felt comfortable talking with him. It was in the shop three days, and Justin kept me informed of the progress. After receiving my truck, I talked to Joe, the mechanic, and was equally impressed. If anyone needs there services, I will definetely recommend these people. Great job and thanks, guys. Ron Laster

Sun Tire of Park Avenue
I went there few time for recurring brakes and wheel related issues! They were accommodating but felt rushed and problem was not resolved to my satisfaction until recently! All I can say is if you go there, see the New Manager, Ray Somers! This guy is awesome, very knowledgeable and he takes the time and listen to your problem --- after his diagnosis, he will explain your options thoroughly in a way you would understand to make a decision on the work needed. My brake issue is resolved and I will definitely go back to get all my cars worked on!

Gerber Collision & Glass
I went there for a paint estimate for my car. I found out rather quick after a few seconds with them that they were in the insurance racket business. They wanted to charge me for work that is considered above and beyond the scope of a normal overall paint job. When you mention, “cash”, forget it. They are only interested in insurance, unless you are gullible and want to get ripped off. Oh, they will refer you to the hole in the wall shop next door if you are looking for a cash estimate.

Great price and more importantly great service! Dan Vazquez the manager there took care of me. The price was more than fair and there was only a 1 day turn around. When I picked up the car, i asked for change to get a soda and he just gave me the change to get one. I know it's not a whole lot of money but the friendly gesture was priceless. This was not my first time there and will not be the last! Thank you, Constantine
Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.
