My husband and I were originally at Opus Restaurant in OKC but they refused to honor our Living Social coupon. So we left and went to Cafe Nova. Our meal was excellent, the ambience was great and the server was very attentive and exceptionally nice. We highly recommend this Cafe Nova.
While visiting for the holidays from Colorado, my family and I came into Cafe Nova for dinner and drinks on December 28th. The food was very good and the service was adequate. Unfortunately the experience has since soured.
I received my credit card bill from that time period and noticed that my card had been charged three times for the bill amount. I soon called and spoke with a manager who said he would look into it and get back to me. Two days went by and I had to call again. At which point I was told that this had happened to a few other people and they were working on a solution. A few more days go by with no response so I call again and I am told that the problem is that their computer system charged me three times but they did not get the money three times and they were still waiting to hear from their computer system guy. Two more days go by and I call again on 1/17/08 and the manager tells me that there is nothing that he can do and it is up to me to dispute the charge with my bank. Basically, ?it?s not my problem, you deal with it.? I voiced my displeasure and he half-heartedly offers to by me dinner if I come in (?Come in and ask for me and I will remember your name?).
I live in Colorado and after the horrible customer service that I have since received, why would I want to come back? Ultimately, it is the restaurant?s fault that my card was charged 3 times and they should attempt to reconcile the problem. Why do I as the patron have to pay because their computer had a problem? Why not simply send me a check for the $300 and a $100 gift certificate? I worked in the restaurant business for about ten years and now work in sales/customer service and I feel that I am very forgiving and that I have a good feel of what could have/should have been done in this situation. I hate to complain but I have given several chances to the management to reconcile. Instead I am filling out charge dispute paper work with a very bad opinion of Cafe Nova.
""I've given Cafe Nova many chances, because I really want it to be good. It's in my neighborhood, the owners seem like really nice people, it looks fabulous, and I really want it to work. But, unfortunately, it just doesn't. The service is just terrible, and the food is often OK, but not great.
A couple of weeks ago, I took a friend who was visiting from Houston. When the waitress brought the wine list, it unfortunately had the same wines listed on both sides, so my friend asked for the full wine list. The waitress brought another list - this one with the full listing - and immediately after handing it to her, asked her what she'd like to order from it. My friend asked for a few minutes to actually look and was given about 30 seconds before she was asked again what she'd like to order from it - not cool.
My friend ordered the tenderloin, and I ordered the tuna. When our dishes arrived, her portion was amazingly small, and my tuna was amazingly overcooked. Both were served with a vegetable and lots of risotto. I have nothing against risotto, but it's not especially innovative, and not what I expected on a $25 entree. I actually sent my tuna back, which I really hate doing, because it's so high maintenance, but it was actually cooked so long that it was dry & white, and I could not eat it. When I explained to the waitress that it was very overcooked and I hoped she could take it back, she said that she wondered about it when she brought it out, because normally it's was quite pink when served, which led both my friend and I to wonder aloud why she brought it out at all. When she returned with a new & improved tuna dish, it was much better prepared, but still not especially exciting (more risotto).
My friend and I were contemplating desert when the waitress came by to ask us if we wanted the checks separate or together. She never even asked us if we'd like desert, and neither one of us felt like staying after that.
The food is good if you can stand the service. They do offer some interesting dishes that you probably won't find elsewhere in OKC. The waitstaff seems to think they are better than their customers and sometimes choose who they will give service too. Twice I have been there on a weekend night and gotten a bitchy server who wouldn't serve us because she didn't ""know"" who we were. This is basically a place to be seen.
