Billy's Automotive Again
First off I would like to say that Billy is super nice. I dropped my Nissan truck off with him for tons of major repairs. He fixed everything and for an amazing price. Most places wanted at least $500 to $700 to replace my timing belt only. The timing belt is a huge project for a Nissan truck. Huge project. He did an entire tune up, new spark plugs, new radiator, changed the transmission fluid, a new timing belt, new water pump, three new other belts, fixed a broken tail light, new filter and a oil change, and I had two metal clips on my muffler that had been rattling for over a year and he fixed that as well. I feel like I have a brand new truck. All for $990 including parts and labor. Note most places wanted around $700 just to replace the timing belt alone and nothing else. So most places wanted $700 for just one of these jobs. I called a ton of shops before a friend told me about Billy. Plus I was in a bind since I use the truck for work so he got it all done in two days. Two days!! One of the nicest people I have ever come across. He also came highly recommend. He called the second morning and told me I needed a new radiator and I thought here we go. Here come the add ons. But when I got to the shop Billy showed me my old radiator and how it was falling apart bc of the salt air. This guy is awsome and seems super honest! 5 starts from me!

Charleston Performance Solutions
Unfortunately, the review below isn't quite accurate, as the ZO6 referenced was built for the previous owner and ran flawlessly for the 8 months he owned it. Once traded to the new owner it succumbed to a WOT missed shift days later, which resulted in PTV contact, a broken valve, and then a broken piston. When asked to help the NEW owner, we offered, but were threatened with extortion if we didn't send "x" amount of dollars by a certain day. They then went and tried to rep bomb us to hurt our business. We have picture proof of the messages, damage, files, videos, and texts. It really is a shame when someone does such a thing.

Robert's Auto Service and Repair
I took my 2000 Mustang into Robert's automotive on Friday 13th to have a new clutch installed. Robert, the owner, was very nice and helpful answering my questions and being honest with me. I left my car with him over the weekend and he had it ready for me Tuesday morning early. I drove my car all day today and the car shifts like a dream; nice and smooth. Robert told me he replaced the fluid at no extra charge as well. I enjoyed doing business with him and his business and will bring my Mustang back in again for any future repairs, if any. Thanks Robert... Steven Rogge (Satisfied Customer).

I have lived in Charleston for nearly 20 years and not long after arriving needs a mechanic to repair the wife's car. After a couple of phone calls a friend recommended a shop and I went to them for help. Not only did Rick repair our car, we met his amazing wife Nina and actually made some new friends. After the fact I realized just how reasonable the repairs were and how honest Rick had been about our options. This was the start of a long term professional and personal relationship that is all too often non existent these days.

Stokes Volkswagen
Had a life change that called for a change in vehicles. Went to Stokes based on two previous excellent experiences with buying from them. Worked with Travis the manager and Clarence from sales to get a great deal on a much nicer car than I had originally planned on buying. An excellent experience overall; got a great deal on a great car. I'll continue to shop there and will definitely continue to refer people there.

German Auto Repair
I took my ML320 in for suspension repairs and wheel bearings. My vehicle had been at Baker Motor for over a week and no work had been done - they were able to work me into their schedule quickly and their prices were much more reasonable than the dealer. The work was completed in a timely manner. I was impressed with the communication from the ladies who work at the front counter. I will certainly use them again.

On top of that the price was very convenient and totally competitive in compare to the other companies around. I will definitely do business again with them and would highly recommend this company without reservation.

Midas Auto Service and Repair North Charleston
I stopped by to have my wife's van checked out due to a hesitation we were experiencing while at idle. Mr Gene and Mr John were very hospitable and Mr Gene made me feel confident that I was only spending my money on what needed to be repaired. The repairs were done to my satisfaction and the problem was exactly what he said it was.

Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.
