We went before a Broadway show. We were concerned about just the little door, small sign, and rickety stairs, but like many places of this sort, the food was fabulous. My wife had the Tandoori Chicken, and I had a lamb chop dish. Really flavorful! We had so much to eat at a inexpensive price we barely had room left for desert. When I get to New York again next year, I am heading back there. I highly recommend it to any one else looking for good, inexpensive Indian cuisine!

Me and my husband had a great time at BOMBAY PALACE last night, the dinner was perfect, cool traditional instrumental music playing, overall cool ambiance. Welcoming crew and waiters were awesome. The food was mouth-watering, served in hot plates, from their entrees well garnished with their main course we took a great lamb chop masala, it was so good, ending with a typical Indian desert. It was so good, and the bill was reasonable with all the add-ons they give. Our night was completed at their modern look lounge, superb music and great atmosphere.

Ladies & gentlemen, this is by far -one of the best ""authentic"" Indian food that I've had in NYC! If you don't like long cafeteria-style lines or a packed house w/ limited seating, then stop-by AFTER 1:30pm because this place is a ZOO during peak lunch hours! I usually go after 2pm and can comfortable enjoy my usual Tikki Masala, rice & naan + fresh green peppers! Yummy!!

Really nice food. Liked the ambience as well. The food is authentic and tasty. The service is not bad either - but then I have never been here on weekends. I highly recommend this place for the food. The ambience is not bad either - there is usually a long wait during lunch especially in the summer. Visited again and liked it.

This restaurant makes the best Indian food in New York! I used to order from this restaurant at least twice a week for about 2 months straight; I was addicted :) Their food is always fresh. When they deliver, they package everything so neat and sturdy. They wrap the plates with utensils all together with a plastic wrap so it doesn't fall out. There is also 3 different types of sauces they give in your delivery with your meal. I like that they aren't cheap. It's always the same great service. I became such a fan, so I finally decided to write a review! I recommend the Chicken tikka masala and their onion nans.

I came here many years ago, and the place was not kept up-to-date. BUT THINGS HAVE CHANGED! The bathrooms are fresh, clean, new! And the food was so fresh, so fantastic. The menus are new and so is their website madrasmahal com. I truly recommend this place!

My favorite restaurant in New York is an Indian restaurant named Dream curry.\r I went to this place with my friend. This was a good place because it was clean and had good service.\r So, I really like this restaurant. My friend introduced me to its dishes that tasted more delicious than any other place. Above all, when I went there, the waiter was very kind and welcomed me politely.\r I ate kind of curry that looked like meatballs. We ate the dish with rice and bread.\r The most important thing was that it was cheap. This environment was also good.\r I'm sure that you will like this restaurant. I want to go again.\r

I LOVE this place! It is incredibly tacky & cheesy, but that's exactly what you come for, and it's also BYOB. They don't take reservations, so prepare for a wait. It's a tiny, cramped little restaurant, so you get to know your neighbors well, and you can't help but hit your head on the hundreds of chili lights dangling from the ceiling. The food is so good, and unbelievably cheap. Go for your birthday, and they'll turn on the disco lights and sing a Bhangra birthday song to you. So much fun!

I come to Raj Mahal freqently, and it's always great. The atmosphere is cramped, but friendly and exciting. They usually have someone up front playing awesome sitar music. Service is quick, and the food is amazing. The portions look small at first, but I leave full every time. One of the only cons is that they rush a complimentary dessert out to you before you have a chance to order the dessert of your choice, but I guess that saves money anyway, which is one of the best parts of this place: dinner for 2 can easily fit in the $20 range. The other con is that as delicious as the food is, the dishes all taste a little too similar, with only subtle differences. I'd still highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun, tasty dinner on a budget.

I am writing this review to tell everyone about Mumtaz. I am estatic to see them back in action and better than ever. I missed them much, and I love the new location of Mumtaz! The new place is gorgeous and much bigger than the old one. For those of you who do not know Mumtaz, it has been in the upper eastside Yorkville neighborhood for forever, and they recently moved to 1582 York Avenue (bet. 83rd & 84th St) from their old location. I have been a loyal Mumtaz customer ever since the 1970's. I have been taking my family there and now my children take there children there. It's a great place to to enjoy authentic indian food. Others claim they serve indian food, but Mumtaz is really special. Their taste is unique compared to some of the boring indian food I have tasted over the years at other places. I absolutely love it!

This is a great place for the budget conscious and fans of no-frills food from the subcontinent. Don't let the stark decor and slightly surly service turn you away - this place is a total gem.\r \r As an appetizer, I recommend the lamb sausage or the naan bread. The naan is made on-demand, fresh from the brick oven. \r \r For the main, I usually have the three vegetable combo - it's an appealing $4.50, and is perfectly aromatic and quite filling. The chicken tandoori is good, too, but I'm always a tad suspicious of meat at these low, low prices.

THE BEST. We randomly stumbled upon this restaurant and it was the best accident ever. We highly enjoyed the service and food, and the atmosphere was perfect. We had wine, appetizers, and entrees for a great price..(wine was only $5 a glass!!)! Definitely recommend and will go again. Everyone there was so nice and really cared. It's gluten-free friendly too!

I had a great meal here. The portions were generous, and my chicken vindaloo was very spicy and delicious. My friend had the chicken tandoori and enjoyed hers as well. We both left very stuffed and satisfied! The service was very friendly and attentive. It's certainly not the cheapest Indian food around, but not bad for a nice midtown restaurant.

My boyfriend and I go here every so often as the food is fairly reliable and good. The prices are a little above average, but not much so. They have great deals for lunch, and offer a discount for NYU students. They are pretty inattentive in terms of their service, and are terrible about refilling your water glasses. At the same time their servers are friendly.

Great food...even better ambience\r \r I threw a surprise party there for my girlfriend and it definitely 'wow-ed' her. The 'garden' with the thatched glass ceiling and the soft lighting provided the perfect backdrop to the special occasion. There were ten of us...but the staff were attentive to a fault almost. More importantly, the food was simply delicious. \r \r \r

No, no, no, no. The service is good, but the rest of the restaurant is not good in all angles (food, decor, prices, etc.). I don't even recommend them for delivery as there is so many better options in the area.
