When i come to the city, i always come to this place- every time I come with the friends and family it always seems to exceed my expectations and eclipses my previous visit. I went last week and had some great meals ( dinner one night and late night another)....The pastas were better than i expected - Pumpkin Ravioli and my wife had a great Duck confit sandwich. My kids had delicious sliders ( the seasoned waffle fries are addicting)...the late night stop happened after a Book of Moron show ( equally awesome, hilarious but a little inappropriate for kids under 14 if you ask me)... Anyway we had the red Velvet cake, the Coconut cake, the NYC Balckout cake and some ice creams- every dessert was off the hook and we finished every crumb. Of course you come here for the singers and if there are any Broadway producers reading this- get down there and check out these kids singing their hearts out- tons of talent on the floor at ellens. Definitely worth going to when in the Big Apple.

i ate here last year and while the food was pretty good, the prices were really high. it cost me about $8 for like 4 small chicken fingers. the food was good though, we didn't have to wait for a table (on a saturday evening), and the service was good.

extremely long wait, but staff is professional. i ordered a filet mignon and it was very rare, when i ordered medium. the chef personally came out to apologize, which was very nice but she really didn't have too!

I took my friend there for her bday prior to a show. She was visiting from out of town and wanted a real ""NY"" place, whatever that meant exactly. The real NY places aren't really in the theatre district, but we were seeing a show on a Friday night, so not much choice on location. We called to say we were running about 30 minutes late and not only did they hold our table, but couldn't have been nicer about it. Our waiter, Victor, asked if we were seeing a show & correctly assured us that we had plenty of time for 3 courses, which we did, along w/a lovely bread basket served w/olive oil w/garlic/butter or balsamic vinegar choice. Bread was scrumptous-worth the carbs! The menu was eclectic and the food DELICIOUS!! I got the shrimp risotto and my friend said her skirt steak was the best she's ever had. THe waiter was very helpful telling us what was lighter fare vs. more hearty meals. Dessert was cookies and cream which was chocolate mousse w/cream spread on plate and some other delicious form of chocolate. ONly complaint is that wine by the glass was pricey. We got ala carte items off menu which were reasonable around $20-$25, but the house red wine by the glass was $16 each-ouch. The prix fixe has a good deal where for $20 or so you get 3 glasses of wine, one with each course, so perhaps worth it. They gave us a complimentary appetizer, so that made up for the wine cost and was delicious gouda cheese w/pear pate and strawberry. I will go back and soon. Oh, I almost forgot, I really wanted to avoid that theatre district loudness w/tourists crawling over each other's table and could not have created a prettier atmosphere. The decor is very upscale, but the ltg was lower so very comfortable. Great place fora romantic dinner too. My friend said it was one of the best meals she ever had. Go, go, go-but don't tell too many people about it!!

I love the simplicity and respect which was given to the food, as well the staff was freindly and knowledgable. The wine list has something for everybody and is loaded with great half bottles perfect for pretheatre! The best of all we could get a table at the last minute!

I would highly recommend City Tavern as a place to host a private event. We held a surprise birthday cocktail party for my sister in Nov. In the planning leading up to the event Ernesto and the staff were helpful and flexible. They had several different packages of cocktails and appetizers to choose from and had no problem with us putting up a few decorations and bringing a cake. The space itself is very warm and rustic, big windows and lots of brick. During the event, the waitstaff was very attentive. No one was left waiting long on a drink order. Being a surprise party, the event got started a little late by the time the guest of honor showed up, but Ernesto allowed us to extend the time of the party and to continue celebrating. I would definitely return for another party!

I have been here for brunch on a number of occasions and I have been consistently happy. Oftentimes, I come here with 3 or 4 friends for a mini-book club while dining on the extremely delicious comfort food. At no point are we ever rushed or asked to leave. One of the greatest things about this place is that once you are situated you are not expected to get up and leave to make room for the next table once done eating. I will continue to go back!

Went to NYC for a short getaway by myself. One of the wishlist items was dining at Bar Americain. Sat at the bar, was treated warmly.with genuine interest and attention (and I'm not a runway model!). Had four courses, including the seafood cocktail sampler and was delighted with every bite. Staff let me take my time between courses and I never felt rushed. Good food is hard to find, innovative food is even rarer and true hospitality is like finding a diamond in the streets of New York. Thanks, Bobby!

I arranged a birthday party for my girlfriend who was turning 22 this month at The Hill. We were promised a table without bottle requirements or a fee. When we arrived, we were met with a nice hostess who quickly sat us at our table. The Hill delivered everything as promised. It was nice to get that at a bar for a change.

This place looks kind of like one of those rowdy sports bars, but once you go inside, you feel better. \r I got a cheeseburger and fries - both were so plentiful, I didn't finish either. I definitely got my money's worth. It costed me a bit less than ten bucks. Around eight.\r The burger meat wasn't too seasoned, but that is how I like it. It was extremely juicy. It was so tender, you wouldn't need a knife to cut it. A fork would suffice. I didn't expect less than three dollars' worth of french fries to be so much! When they brought me the huge platter of it, I was pretty floored.\r My friend got a lemonade and she said it was really good.\r I got my money's worth, the food was good, and I left extremely full. Easily five stars.

We went for an early dinner and sat outside. Lovely if the sun is not too strong. Didn't have to wait for a table at all. They had a great cherry mint julep cocktail. Service was really friendly, attentive, professional. the squash blossoms were awesome. I also had the seared tuna, which was delicious.

It was a great experience overall. We had a large party and no reservations and the staff was very accommodating and friendly. The food was really tasty. They have a decent wine list as well as a good selection of cocktails. The DJ was playing a nice mixture of music but it wasn't really loud just right....a good night out with friends...way to go ESSEX

We gone there in Weekend and there were 20 individuals previous to us. 60 individuals were holding out when they started out. They only took about 30 individuals at once. We had a gruy?re red onion broth, egg benedict and bananas maple hot cakes. Everything was amazing as regular, but the red onion broth is $9 and a little bit costly. When we remaining at 10:15 am, 50 individuals were holding out and had to delay 2 time at most! Go there as beginning as achievable.

This is a low key, off-the-beaten path, no pretensions Hell's Kitchen bar. It seems to have a great staff, very low key and accommodating. I live a block away and this place always fits the bill when i don't want to stress myself ""going out"", I just want to sit in a dark bar with a drink and catch up with a few friends, and actually hear what they're saying. It's one of the few places where you have a really good chance of getting a barstool, even if you roll in at 11. If you've had a long day and just want to sit down, there are sofas all around. It's not divey, but it is pretty dark, which I find really relaxing. The only thing I'm not keen on is that there are four TVs (silent sound though)d, but do understand the business reasons for having sports on.

I went to this restaurant on December 18, 2009 with my co-workers for a holiday dinner. The chef, Hector Tice, who came out and introduced himself, gave us a breakdown of the meals. I had the salmon with vegetables. It was simply delicious! Awesome! It has been a while since i have gone to a restaurant and felt that my money was well spent. I would recommend this restaurant for its superv service.
