Tri-County Tree & Firewood Inc
I've been using these guys for several years for my firewood. I have shopped around and believe that this is your best source. These guys/gals deliver an actual face cord of wood as opposed to some other companies. Some other companies do deliver an actual face cord, but they do charge more - remarkably more. Additionally, their wood seems to be seasoned better than all of the other companies I have tried.Worth noting: I recently spoke with a sales rep from another company regarding firewood. He made borderline slanderous remarks regarding tri-county (seriously, I feel dirty inside later for even entertaining the guy) and gave me a price of $5 or so more per face cord. I decided to bite, as Tri-County will get sold out and I was looking for a less expensive alternative to my current backup supplier in that event. Long story short - they charged be $25 more as opposed to $5 more, while delivering far less than a face cord (about half a face cord in my estimation). I still fell angry and like I was taken advantage of. ...not cool.Regardless, if you want firewood, these guys are the ones to call. They've been honest, prompt, and have delivered good material every time. I can't sing their praises enough.I can't speak as to their trimming or cutting, but I will be able to in the next year or so because the next time I need my trees trimmed, I'll be calling them.

J & W Tree Artisans
We had used J&W Tree Artisans for over 30 years for periodic tree trimming and in recent years for removals prior to selling our house and moving. Their cleanup is very complete leaving the yard near as clean as you can get after such work with no incidental debris left. The three separate very large tree removals they did included a very large old willow, two 75 year old and one 50 year old elms. The willow and one elm were in the small rear yard and they all each had to be carried out to the street branch by branch. One tree required a crane and someone to climb the very tall tree. All removals went very well and we were pleased with the workmanlike and safe manner in which they did the work. A majority of their work is from word of month and recommendations. I have found that the owner while not into a great amount of formal paper, always makes good on what was agreed to. I would not bother calling anyone else, as I can always count on being happy with the results.

My wife and I had a very large tree fall onto my home 2 days ago Jeff and his guys came out and immediately removed it with a large crane truck to prevent further damage. They also took care of all the paperwork with the insurance company which made everything much easier for my wife and I. I am grateful for Jeff and his guys excellent service. Have a blessed day.

These guys do terrific work. They have been working as the municipal contractor for Grosse Pointe Park for almost 30 years. I've seen them taking down huge trees in cramped quarters, and leave the area clean and undamaged. I can't believe the quality, for a reasonable price they give. I trust them. They do get busy in the summer, but they are worth the wait!

Tips & Advices
Do your due diligence and always ask for proof of insurance and certification before agreeing to any work. You will also want to be on the lookout for telltale signs of scams and be cautious of any company that:
  • Will not provide you with a certificate of their insurance policy or only has general liability coverage
  • Declines to give you a written estimate for the job
  • Gives you bids that either seem very low or very high
  • Contacted you out of the blue to see if you needed their services
  • Has complaints against it from business bureaus in your area
  • Asks for payment before starting work
  • Doesn't have a fixed physical address
Tree service companies are also great places to get your wood if you happen to have a fireplace. Many tree businesses offer free delivery and stacking of hardwoods, such as maple or birch. These can make for the best firewood because they burn slowly and don't produce as much smoke as other types.
If you want to add to the greenery in your yard but you're concerned about the right species to plant or where to put it on your property, seek the advice of an arborist.
If a storm hits and damages your residence, a tree service professional is usually on your list of people to call for help after first responders and your insurer. A professional service can completely remove a tree or just prune and saw off its branches if a storm damages a tree. After sawing or destroying the tree, professionals can then remove any of the dangerous debris from your yard by hauling it off.
Some bugs burrow through the bark and damage hardwood and softwood trees. Depending on the species of trees in your yard and the region of the country you live in, aphids, the infamous emerald ash borer or other pests could destroy your healthy trees.
