Harpeth Hills Animal Hospital
I made an appointment with Harpeth HIlls today because I felt like the service at the other vets nearby was either lacking/incomplete, or in one case, dishonest. Harpeth Hills Animal Hospital (specifically Dr. Strange, with whom I had the pleasure of meeting today) has provided by far the best vet experience I've ever had. Typically, I'm in and out of other vets in under 20 minutes (for everything), implying that there is nearly no time spent evaluating my pet or explaining to me the reasons why things are being done/prescribed. Today, Dr. Stange took the time to evaluate our dog comprehensively, talk at length with us looking for clues, and provided clear and thorough direction on how to proceed. He also alerted us to two things that the other vets had missed (and showed us what was wrong) and treated something the other vets had blown off. It's clear that Dr. Strange cares greatly and will go the extra mile to ensure that his patients and their owners are pleased, understand what he's doing, and treated well. Additionally, he's well-spoken, intelligent, and thorough. We'll certainly be back.

Two Rivers Veterinary Hospital
Highly recommend Two Rivers Vet Clinic in Donelson to any and all pet owners! We had a very sick little dog, Angel, in Kidney failure, and the folks, especially Dr. Jessica Jennings were nothing short of amazing !The care and professionalism is unmatched! We have five dogs and will not trust there care to anyone else. We transferred all of our records from our long time Vet to Two Rivers. Our little Angel is still under going treatment, as we just brought her in yesterday morning, near death. Dr. Jennings and staff took immediate action and got her stabilized and begun remedial treatment. We were encouraged to visit her, which we did. She has a way to go, but we know that she is in great hands The care and compassion for both our little girl and to us was wonderful. The facility, and staff are incredible. We feel very lucky to have found Two Rivers in our moment of utmost need. I would, without hesitation recommend them to all pet owners, I think you will find the care to be exceptional ! How do you say thank you enough?

Belle Forest Animal Hospital & Kennels PC
I have had nothing but positive experiences with Belle Forest Animal Hospital. I have been taking my cats there around 15 years. My first cat was loved by the staff there as if she was their own. When we had to put her down the staff was as sympathetic as could be. I now have another cat that is treated very well there. Dr. Shannon makes such a fuss over her every time we go. It's very comforting to know that my vet is so concerned about my cat on a personal level. My cat gets very good medical attention and the staff there is friendly, the receptionist, the technicians, the doctors - they all make it as pleasant as it can be for a stressed animal going to the doctor. Dr. Shannon is a great vet!

Hillwood Playcare
Hillwood Playcare is one of the best kept secrets in town. The faculty is outstanding and both of my children have always adored their teachers. The music and art program are such a bonus! We started at HWPC in 2009 and can't recommend it enough. This is not a school that only cares about money as the other reviewer stated. They have a couple of fundraisers a year (Fall Carnival and Spring Musical) and all money raised is to improve the school. If you are looking for a wonderful and loving environment then you should look at HWPC. This is also an excellent place for working mothers as their baby room starts at 6 weeks and they have early and late care. WE LOVE HWPC!!

Cheekwood Animal Hospital
I just moved to the Belle Meade area and, after researching my options for a new vet, I'm so glad to have found Cheekwood Animal Hospital. I have two cats and an older dachshund who is terrified of vet exams. I have been twice, and both time Dr. Crisp and her technicians were so caring with my pets, and took extra care with my dachshund to make his visit more tolerable than it ever was with other vets. I have also been pleasantly surprised by the low costs of the routine exams and tests from both visits. I also appreciate that it is a small business and I get to see the same Doctor and same staff each time. I highly recommend .

VCA Murphy Road Animal Hospital
Really great hospital. Very caring, knowledgeable vets. My pup was really sick and the vet was incredibly caring, thorough, and helped me through a difficult time. He ran some tests that found out what was wrong, and started treatment immediately. My pup's doing great now. The office has been recently remodelled, and the staff couldn't be nicer or friendlier. I have been to other clinics around town, and wouldn't go anywhere else. The prices I thought were reasonable as well - in fact cheaper than other places I been to in town. Glad to be a client!!!

Belle Forest Animal Hospital & Kennels PC
Everyone in my family from my mother, brother, myself, and both sisters -in-law have used Belle Forest Animal Hospital for 40 years. The office staff as well as he doctors have treated us like family since day 1. We have had numerous animals receive care there. I have personally had a cat and a dog with cancer. The tireless efforts to help them and the compassion shown to me and my pets during that time went above and beyond just a vet's office. I always know my pets and I will get the very best physical and emotional care possible at BFAH!

Belle Forest Animal Hospital & Kennels PC
I had my first experience with Belle Forest Animal Hospital today after being told that the blood in my dog's stool was normal. They were able to get her an appointment within a few hours after calling and took very great care of us while we were there. The staff is very knowledgeable, courteous, profession, and down-to-earth. After we finished with the appointment, I called and had my previous vet transfer my dog's medical records to Belle Forest. I drove an hour and a half for the appointment and it was well worth it.

Belle Forest Animal Hospital & Kennels PC
We couldn't do without these wonderful people!!! We've brought our cats to Belle Forest Animal Hospital for over ten years, starting with our chronically ill, but totally awesome Norwegian Forest kitty, Donar. The love and care the Belle Forest folks gave Donar kept him going years longer than he would have without them & they have continued that kind of care with all the kitties who have come and gone from our home since then. Thank God for Belle Forest Animal Hospital!!!

Berry Hill Animal Hospital
When it comes to pet care, the most important thing is that your service provider genuinely cares for the well being and health/comfort of your pet. Not just the vet - most vets care, that's why they got into vet med. Every single person you encounter at BHAH has that genuine care. Their prices are very reasonable as well, but when it comes to the furriest parts of your family, the quality of the care is what is important anyway, and BHAH can't be beat.
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
