Old, clean, quiet, reasonably priced. Public access to beach within walking distance. Have stayed twice before. Will be staying again.

Owens Motel
On low setting the AC blew me away. It was a real problem because we needed the air conditioning but the air blew so strongly it was uncomfortable and blew my hair around, and I kept trying to dodge it, and had to stand in the corner of the room to escape it. The room was so tiny the wind reached almost everywhere. The shower and sink were so small. There was barely any room to sit anything down. You couldn’t avoid the shower spray. You take a step and you’ve met the end of the shower. The bathroom door didn’t lock. No continental breakfast, no complimentary meal at the restaurant. No phone to call the office. No filter for the coffee machine. Microwave showed the wrong time. There was no outlet in the bathroom, which was inconvenient. The entire room was wood paneling, which was a little much, but not awful. They had white wicker furniture which was okay. The cable I’m used to because most places have it. It just would have been nice to have a guide of the channels so we didn’t have to surf through everything. The view was really awful. One window as overlooking the brick building, the courtyard rooms of Owen’s Motel beside us. The other was facing the run-down parking lot. The size of the room we really couldn’t get past. You take about 5 steps and you’ve just met your new perimeter. Rooms got progressively worse after the ocean view. Courtyard room we checked smelled so bad we declined it. It was really musty and just really strong and awful. We stayed in the rooms across the street from the office. The sheets were clean and I slept good though, so no complaints about the beds. There were no tissues. No chain lock on the door. It could have used some added security with that. It was an okay room, if a little outdated and way too small. It was just a nice walk to the beach though and a really close drive or walk to Jeanette’s peer, which was the good part if you’re looking to not spend too much time in the hotel room and you want to be out on the beach or the peer. I’d like to check the size and everything of their ocean front rooms, which are the nicest-looking on their brochure. I wouldn’t stay in the other rooms again unless I just had to—like we did this time because everywhere else was full or too expensive because of weekend, summer, oceanfront prices. The lady working there—short blonde hair and blue eyes—was really friendly and helpful finding us a place. She didn’t have more than one night at Owen’s Motel so called around for over 20 minutes at hotels even in neighboring towns so we had a place to stay. That was so nice of her to do that and go the extra mile for us and we really appreciated that.

Sandspur Motel & Cottage Court
Horrible! We stayed here last year with some reservations but it didnt go bad as I had heard it could be. This year was horrible! The owners are the rudest people ever. The man walks around with head phones in so you have to chase him down to ask anything then when you tell him something he looks at you like your bothering him. Short and rude when he replies. Our 3 bedroom cottage was falling apart. The refrig. would not get cold.. had to turn it off then wait and turn back on. Then it froze everything. The stove would come on by itself and we had to unplug it when not using and for the price we paid there was no battery in the one and only clock. Sounds trivial but as you see they wont put anything back into the rentals. They supposedly would have stove worked on by Wed. and this was Sat.. never did happen. The toilet over flowed and then the air conditioner quit working in the biggest bedroom. They allow 8 people in this cottage but only 2 cars. The owner got angry when we asked what we was suppose to do with the 3rd and literally told us how in the old days 8 of them would ride on vacation in one car. Considering there is now laws on seat belts and cars are compact plus the fact you need to bring everything to stay in one of these. Some people was coming from different area's and at different times. We had to store our car in Wanchese which the owner there had no idea these people was giving out his number. He was only opened at certain hours and days. Luckily he was very nice to us about it. So whenever we needed to go anywhere then someone had to drive us over and then follow us back to park the car. Guessing about 5 mile or more trip each way plus the traffic. We wanted to leave early on Sat. and asked if we could bring our car over late Fri. so as to be on the road by 6 or 7. The man was so rude yelling and slamming things then walked away mumbling when there was no argument.. just a question. I have pictures of several empty spots and the fact we all had compact we could have parked all 3 of ours in front of our cottage. There was man who was in need of mental care and instead of calling the cops so he could be evaluated or at least not sent out to harm himself or others they yelled at him and evicted him. He def. needed to go but he needed care also. I dont need the Hilton but some repairs need to be done and the attitude def. needs checked. Never ever again.

Blue Heron Motel
loved my stay the rooms are large , very clean, the maids are very nice , the lady at the desk very helpful, and they have 3 pools and hot tub. if you want to see the ocean from your room you need to be on 2nd, or 3rd floor and it is a walk up. but there is a nice deck for coffee that sits on top of the dunes with a wonderful view. and all very kid friendly. We had 2 rooms w\\ 10 in out party age 50+ to 3 and it was the best time .and it's close to anything you need. we'll be back. thank you blue heron motel for a great stay.
