  • Great on Friday and Saturday nights!

This place is great for Friday and Saturday nights out. The band, Gitano Band, is amazing! If you want to hear a really good band play, have a few drinks and dance go on Friday or Saturday nights.

With everyone trying to live on a budget, it's nice to treat yourself out to an occasional night on the town. Well please don't look for any good times or great service here. My husband and I have a date night once a week that is very special to us. We enjoy having a time out and enjoying each others company and good food and nice atmosphere. We wasted our night out when we visited Luminaris Rest. the service was so bad-we waited 20 minutes before our server finally approched us. We stopped in for an early dinner and to catch happy hour. By the time the server came to take our order-Happy Hour was already over. The table salsa was like red colored water. The chicken burrito was dry and poorly made. i love Mexican food and this place should be embarrased to charge their ridiculous prices and offer such horrible tasting food. No Mexican Pride here!!

  • YOU'LL BE SORRY! ...if you use Luminarias Banquet facilities

YOU'LL BE SORRY if you use Luminarias Banquet facilities for your special event.
When you hold a large event like a Wedding and you spend thousands of dollars to provide a good time for your friends & family the least you can expect is to get the food that you paid for and receive competent, courteous attention.
Our family has held 4 large (150 persons+) events here over the last 10 yrs and all I can say from our last event experience there is that because of the rude, careless, unattentive and most importantly, dishonest behavior of Luminarias Catering Dept Staff, WE WILL NOT RETURN.
Even pre-event, the office staff was difficult, but once they had our deposit (and had us over a barrell) they became downright rude and it was even difficult to get them to return calls. This was really frustrating, but even worse, was the actual event.
There was no staff from the catering office to be found that day at our event to supervise.
Only the people hired to actually serve the food & drinks were present. They were sweet and tried their best to help, but they didn't really speak english and had no way of correcting problems such as being served the WRONG FOOD, CHARGING OUR GUESTS FOR THEIR WINE & BEER AT OUR BAR SERVICE, EVEN THOUGH WE HAD ALREADY PAID FOR THE BOTTLES OF WINE & BEER IN ADVANCE (really embarrassing) and an attempt to REMOVE TABLES & CHAIRS FROM OUR BALLROOM BEFORE OUR PARTY ENDED because they were needed elsewhere!
We planned in advance, with the office, to bring our own cake INSTEAD of serving their dessert BUT because of another Luminarias foul-up they proceeded to serve their dessert AT THE SAME TIME our cake was being served and then charge us for both serving our cake AND their dessert.
NO ATTENTION to any detail whatsoever! Really terrible. Our event planner NEVER once checked in on our party.

I hope this review saves someone the stress & heartache of having their event here.
1 Star rating is only because that's the lowest you can give.

  • DONT GO THERE FOR BRUNCH

I made my reservation two weeks in advance for Easter Brunch after seeing their advertising. We get there about 10 minutes before out reservation time, they had us waiting for about 45 minutes to sit us. Then they took us to our table where I noticed that they only put one knife on our table of three people. It took about 15 minutes for our server Brenda R. to come around our table to ask her for knifes. I also asked her for water which never came. She brought water for the table next to us but not to us. Some of the food was good. The man making the pasta was really nice and polite. But our server was very rude. We got sited at 1:15 and left the place at 2:07 we were there for less than an hour and our server came around our table about three times to serve us champagne and thats because we called her. The champagne was included in the price of about $31.00 per person, only two out of three people in my table asked for champagne. Brenda brought the check to our table at about 2:00 we were almost done so I asked Brenda if she could serve me a little more champagne that was my third glass, she looked at me and she said no I cant. Then I asked her why not isn't it included in our brunch? She yes it is but I don't suppose to serve you a lot. I was so amazed when she said that I even told her I only had two glasses only two of our three people are drinking the champagne that is included in our brunch price, and if she wanted to charge me extra that it was fine I have no problem paying for what I want to drink or eat. I explain to her that she was really out of line by telling us that. Its a brunch where you serve yourself and for her to be rude for the one hour that we were there. For the price of $31.00 Its not worth the brunch go to Taps in Brea very classy place with very polite servers, or even Shiloh Restaurant for that price. Very disappointed they should talk to their servers and teach them how to treat costumers.

I took my fiancee to this retaurant earlier this month for a special dinner. She had mentioned that she had been there before, and that the food and view were great. Upon arrival I noticed that they still had not cleared many of the tables from just a bit earlier. Not a good sign to begin with.

After being seated we made our orders: To start, we ordered the Calamari and the corn chowder.
After waiting for a good 20 minutes or so, we finally received our appetizer. Now I have had Calamari on many occasions but this was positively gut wretchingly awful. Not only was its greasy, but after you ate a piece, you were left with a horrible seafood taste complete with a nasty string similar to dental floss! Needless to say a large pile of it remained on the plate.

Being that the restaurant had decent reviews, I decided maybe that was a fluke. The next thing that we had was the corn chowder. That dish was tasty and I thought that things were definitely on the upswing. WRONG!

Our waiter conveniently disappeared for long stretches of time and it was another 30 minutes till we actually got our main dishes.

My Fiancee ordered the Jumbo Shrimp pasta dish and I ordered the Seafood Paella. My Fiancees was absolutely tasteless. The shrimp tasted like freezer left overs. My dish looked fantastic. Key word: ""Looked"" Just like my Fiancees dish my seafood was primarily flavorless, except for some spices that made it taste like a rubber boot. And I do mean a rubber boot because the lobster and scallops were dry and rubbery. Nasty. I can't even say nice things about the rice. The rice was even mushy and not very appetizing.

After that meal. Who needs Dessert. I don't need any cakes that taste like shoe.

    Service: Painfully Slow
    Food: Dreadful

In conclusion, if this restaurant served the last food left on the planet, ""Do yourself a Favor and just Starve!""

  • Do not go on Valentines Day

Last night my wife and I decided to try this restaurant out for Valentines Day. This Restaurant sits on a hill so we thought we would enjoy the view as well as the food. Little did we know our night was about to be ruined. The Restaurant was so greedy they tried to pack each of the dinning rooms with as many tables as possible. Because of this the service was absolutely terrible, not to mention my wife and I could hear the whole conversation happening from the couple right next to us (the tables were so close together). We waited 30min for our soft drinks (not cocktails) and 1hr for our food. Halfway into my entree I received my appetizer. The food was not good at all and my wife?s steak was not cooked the way she ordered it, but she didn?t say anything because it would of took another hour. I do not recommend this place to anybody. Bad, bad, bad?

  • Definitely a buffet worth trying

This place has ""buffet"" written all over it, yet at the same time the ambiance is a bit hard to explain (a cross between a classy restaurant and a Mexican Quincea?era). We had a mariachi band playing in our room and then some weird filming going on that could only be described as a reality show for BET. It was quite interesting to see.

The variety of food spanned from mini-waffles (recommended) to carne asada and eggs benedict. Champagne was complementary. The Cappuccino was really good (tasted like coffee with Horchata). There was even an ice sculpture by the desserts.

It's a bit pricey at $22.95 per head (if you go before 10:00 a.m. on Sundays it's $17.95 per head) but if you're in good company and have the time to sit and enjoy the food, then it's worth it. Service was decent -- our waitress gave us a tour of the place because it was our first time there. Overall, a great experience -- will definitely go there again one day (probably for a special occasion of some sort).
