Westshore Motors
(I'm cross-posting my original review from cargurus.com, because right now there's only 1 other (very negative) review here for Westshore - it was enough to make me wary of the dealer at first, but I had a really positive experience, and I think they deserve some "good press"!)I just bought a used car hereon 9/19/14, and would highly recommend them - I had a great experience. I was honestly slightly wary of this dealer initially, because I'd found some negative reviews online from a couple years ago, plus it's an hour away from where I live. But they had what seemed like (and was!) a great deal on a 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander, a model I'd recently test-driven at a nearby dealer and loved -- so I had to at least check it out. I dealt exclusively with Carolyn Andersen, the general manager, and she was really responsive and easy to work with from the get-go. Since I wanted a mechanic to check it out, and my regular mechanic (Tires International in Manchester, they're great) was too far away, I looked for reviews online and was lucky enough to find Mike at Dulin Automotive in Milford, about 2 miles from Westshore Motors. Because it was so far from me, Mike suggested that I save myself the trip and just have the Westshore folks drive the car over. I didn't want to impose, but he said the folks at Westshore had done it before, so I asked Carolyn and she was happy to oblige (we'd already talked/emailed several times by then, so she knew I was sincerely interested). Mike was *awesome*, btw - did a very thorough job evaluating the car, called me right away with his findings (and wouldn't even let me pay him!). What he told me matched the info I'd gotten from Carolyn, no surprises - he said the only thing the car would need would be tires in a year or so, and all the other systems looked/worked great. So, with an enthusiastic thumbs-up from the mechanic, we went down pretty sure that we'd get the car, and our official test drive was to the bank to get a cashier's check, lol! Kind of unorthodox, but it was pretty seamless, no surprises. I also felt like Carolyn gave us a fair price on our trade-in. She made the whole process easy and very pleasant, and I hope the next time we need a new car we can find something good closer to home - but I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Carolyn again! :)

Dan Perkins Subaru
I had such a great service experience at Dan Perkins Subaru in Milford, CT that I decided to take the time and let the world know about it. I drive a Lexus and was due for a major service on my car. I wanted to maintain my car but keep the cost down at the same time. I called Marc Mesedore for help. Marc was extremely accommodating and not only got me right in but offered me a loaner vehicle as well. The mechanic that worked on my car, Mike Yang used to work at Lexus in service so he was very familiar with my car and did an incredible job. I picked up my car today and it drove like a dream! Everything was done exactly as promised and the car was even washed! Everyone there is so friendly. They service all makes and models and Gina, David, Donna and Adrien always greet you with a smile. I am coming back here for all my servicing and plan on bringing my wife's car here for service as well. I highly recommend Dan Perkins Subaru!

Land Rover Milford
All I can say is GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I bought my 2nd Land Rover vehicle from them recently after totaling my Jaguar XJ8L...After my accident I wanted something more versitile and safe, and decided to take a look to see what Land Rover had to offer me this time around. I had a 1995 Disco that was a headache--but I recently got a 06' LR3 and love it. The salesman Jerry G. is by far, hands down the best person to do business with. He made sure the vehicle was perfect at delivery, even touching up a few spots in the paint on the door sils. The sales process was unlike anything I've ever experienced--they are very laid back, friendly and upfront. I brought the vehicle in for a noise I heard in the front end and it was fixed the next day. Overall, I am very happy I gave them a try, and if they keep up the good work I will be back to get my LR4 in a few years! Thanks Land Rover of Milford!

Dealership is great and I'm sure there are very many good sales people there to go to. However, STAY AWAY FROM 'SID' and if you do make that mistake 'read every line of the contract and add up all the numbers'! What is discussed and agreed to verbally is not what he put in the contract. Actually charged more than sticker and changed the contract to 42 months when he knew I wanted 36. When I called the following day to say why did he change the terms he said "I should have read the contract" and that 42 months is the standard contract - funny - the warranty is for 36 months and this would have left me with no coverage for 6 months. The general Manager rectified the problem for me and was very nice. Everyone there is great, the place is clean and open. Just don't use Sid and you will be fine.

The service director, Marc and his team of service advisors are always accommodating, professional and easy to work with. What I appreciate the most is their honesty and knowledge in the field. I will continue to drive to Milford to have my car serviced. Thank you!!

A & S Auto Service
I've been going to A & S Auto for about 10 years now. Brian & Steve are the most knowledge and fair guys in the business. I've even switched bring my Jeep from another car repair shop that I dealt with for about 8 years because they couldn't find the problem I was having with my jeep. Needless to Brian was able to repair the issue in no time.

Napoli Indoor Auto Outlet
They kept me in the dark and fed me lots of manure. Salesman kept disappearing. Wasted almost 4 hrs there. Like most used car dealers they will lie and say anything to make a sale. Caveat Emptor
Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.
