1.E's 24 Hour Cafe
1308 Union Ave
We went to the one on Union last night, Tuesday around 6p. Nearly slipped an fell when we walked in because the floor was so slippery from grease (very poor mop job). No waittress or cook was around, waited about 10 minutes and than left. Had a hard time getting up from the booth because again the floor was too slippery. It smelled like burned grease and the tables were sticky. There were only 2 other people in the place and they got fed up and left too. We went to the back parking lot and saw the cook and waitress standing out back smoking. Didn't even acknowledged us. Don't know why this place got any Best of Memphis votes. WE WILL NOT BE BACK AND DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I visit Denny's (at this location) at least twice a week, they just can't seem to get it together here, the hostess does not know when she seat someone, she needs to let the waitress know, I sat for 10 minutes before I had to call the telephone where she was standing to ask her to get me a waitress, then I placed my order and when she brought it the food was cold because they can't get the air conditioner fixed where it will cut off properly, I just sent the second bowl back , I don't know why they cannot get this location together properly, who is the owner of this location?

I have eaten at Huey's Madison Midtown since I moved back to Memphis. I probably have my name written on the wall 3 times. I do still like Huey's but since they expanded, things have changed. The burgers use to fit the plates (big, take 2/3 home as an adult!), not the baskets. The baskets came when they expanded, I believe. There were more onion rings, not just 4 every time, but they were still huge. My love hasn't changed, just a review.

This place has some of the most wicked seasoned bbq you'll ever eat. I hate it's closed on Sunday and Monday. I devoured everything like a mad pig. People gave this place bad reviews because they don't have taste buds. Beware of that Rendevous serves spicy hot soul food that will make you come back for more!

If you are ready for your day to begin the right way, head over to Brother Juniper's! \r I had read all the reviews, seen them on TV food shows but still, when I went with my husband and baby we didn't want to buy into all the hype as to not to be disappointed. \r And so we waited outside for 15 minutes until a table cleared in this tiny ""house"" of a restaurant, we were seated and after looking at the very varied and interesting menu we ordered a Hungry Tiger for hubby and a San Diegan for me....\r When they brought our food I thought I had died and gone to heaven only to have Brother Juniper open up the gates..... OH.MY.GAWD. Yes, it was THAT good, yes, capital letters good, silly heaven references good, fluffy bunnies, unicorns and rainbows in your plate good. \r I have been back to this place often after this experience and the service and food have been consistent which is a major plus. I wonder if the wait will be that long in winter time, and if I will be able to stand a 15 minute wait in 40 degree weather....I'll start carrying an extra blanket in my car just in case....yes, its THAT good!

This is my go-to BBQ place when nothing but the best chopped pork sandwich will do. I haven't tried anything else because that's what I want when I go there. The person who slammed it either doesn't know what they're talking about or simply had a rare bad experience. The fact that he/she didn't like the sauce makes me suspect it's the former. I've lived in Memphis 30+ years and have never had better sauce anywhere. We took my cousin from Newcastle, England there and he's dying to go back, so it isn't just me.

This place was so quiet and hidden away. It is like it is in an old house, with multiple rooms. We discovered it from the Memphis Flyer coupon. The drinks were very strong, and the steaks were amazing. Restaurants like this are few and far between - I love it's ""old world"" atmosphere. I wish there were more hidden away restaurants like this in Memphis - it's atmosphere is rare. The music was beautiful - modern, but romantic and relaxing. I loved it and it has become a new favorite.

My wife and I were traveling and spent the night in Memphis. Looking for a good place to eat, we just ""happened upon"" El Porton. We had an excellent meal, served in a relaxing atmosphere. Add to that a Marguarita that was ""drop dead"" good and very reasonable prices and you have the formula. We recomend El Porton to every one we encounter that is going thru Memphis. GREAT FOOD...GREAT DRINKS... GREAT PRICES.... Just wish we had a reason to go thru Memphis more often.

I was born and raised in the Memphis area but moved away over 20 yrs ago. I have yet to find a pizza anywhere that tops Garibaldi's BQ pizza! The thing just about melts in your mouth. Everytime I go back, it is a must stop. Sometimes it is my first stop!

This is place is great for it's food and the founder. The full rack is the altenative example of a typical all you can eat feature in restaurants. Rendevous and Corkys better run for their money because they got some competition. This place would be perfect if someone could remove those annoying little naggers called waitresses.
24.McEwen's On Monroe
120 Monroe Ave
I read about McEwan's on the Fodor's site. I checked out the menu and called for a reservation. The man who answered was warm and kind and told me he would be able to find us a table even though it was Friday night. When I arrived the bartender said hello and immediately came from behind the bar to seat us. We were greeted and told the specials immediately. The ambience was warm and refined without being uppity. \r Our appetizer of fried oysters with a mustard plum sauce came out almost instantly. The breading was light and well seasoned and the sauce was amazing. We shared the blue snapper special and the scallops and cheese grits. \r The fish was so yummy with peruvian mashed potatoes and the best green beans I've ever had in a restaurant. \r The scallops were perfectly cooked and the grits, while rich, did not overpower the delicate scallop flavor. The piccata sauce on which the scallops were placed was amazing with the other flavors. \r I had the banana pudding for dessert. I don't even have words for how good that was. \r The owner asked us how everything was and from his questions I could tell that his heart was really in it. He seems to really value the dining experience of his guests. \r I can't wait to go back to Memphis just to go back to this friendly place with such amazing dishes. I would highly recommend McEwan's on Monroe. \r \r Rebecca\r Nashville, TN\r \r

I love Abuelo's!!! Anytime I am in Memphis, this is where I go to eat. They have some of the best Mexican food I have had. We vacationed in Costa Rica a few years ago and the food at Abuelo's reminds me a lot of Costa Rica. Abuelo's has great guacamole dip and salsa. If you go here, you have got to try the Papas!! You will not be disappointed!!! I promise!

I absolutely love Nagasaki Inn! It has a very cool retro '70s feel. Although its an older building it still is very kept up and clean. They have some of the freshest sushi I have ever eaten (and I eat tons of Japanese)! Their fried rice is also amazing. I recommend it to anyone looking for a great date or party place.

Central BBQ has the best BBQ I've ever had at a restaurant. I've been before so I knew it was good, but my boyfriend and I decided that on our next trip to Memphis we would bring his parents. Three of us got regular pork sandwiches. I mean, it's hard to not get a pork sandwich at a Memphis BBQ place. Two of us got the mild sauce and I got the hot sauce. We all got slaw on the sandwich. My boyfriend got the pulled chicken sandwich with mild cause and slaw. For sides one of us got a quarter slab of ribs, I got the sausage, and one got greens. The sandwich was just perfect with a good amount of smoke and tenderness. It is pretty hard to pick up, but I like my BBQ messy. My boyfriend decided to just eat the chicken off the sandwich with a fork. The rest of us just dove in. I didn't have any of the chicken, but he said it was moist and smoky and great. The sausage was fantastic and I might try the sausage sandwich next time. It was smoked and very flavorful with a good crunch on the outside. The ribs fell off the bone. Actually when he picked them up a bone just fell off. I like my ribs that way so they were great as well. The greens were also very flavorful and tender. We didn't get a beer when we were there, but they have a good selection of drafts. One of my favorite things about coming to Memphis is getting to drink Ghost River beer. We don't have it anywhere in Nashville. I try to go to Central BBQ every time I go to Memphis, and that won't change anytime soon. I fully recommend you do the same!
