NTB National Tire & Battery
Went into the Magnolia store recently for my 3k oil change that cost $19.99 as advertised. The clerk wrote up my order and I asked him to confirm the price which he quoted to be in excess of $60++. I told the clerk I wanted the $19.99 service and he informed me that I had to put synthetic oil in my car. I showed him my previous NTB oil change invoices that confirmed that NTB Magnolia previously put conventional oil in my car since 2015. I even showed him my owner’s manual that stated I can use conventional oil. The clerk then told me that they got a new store manager, who was previously a division manager, and that his policy is to sell the synthetic oil no matter what the customer requested. I asked to speak to the manager who conveniently was not around so I left. My owner’s manual clearly states what type of oil I can use so to be told that I had to use synthetic is bad customer service. I am sure that the new store policy of selling synthetic only is because there is a higher profit margin compared to selling conventional oil. Well NTB you just lost a long-time customer who will never buy tires, batteries or any other of your services as I have done in the past. There are too many other auto honest auto service providers that I will use in the future. NTB corporate needs to take a look at their managers and policies that that put profits over customer service.

Don't bring your vehicle here. Biggest mistake of my life. They are a bunch of Crocs and scammers. They have no idea what they are doing. After 5 months of waiting to get my car back. I had my vehicle back for a day after getting some engine work on it. The next morning my engine blows up. They wouldn't warranty any of there work. That's how much they trust there OWN work. They wanted me to pay again after they screw up and for all the time it took them to get it fix like it was my fault it took them 5 months. The old man there is the worst he will lie in your face and curse you out over the phone if you refuse to pay his over charges. I have recently found more then 7 bad reviews on this place where they have over charge people. Told them one price and when they come to pick up the vehicle they triple the original price forcing most of them to leave there vehicle. You have been warned do your research don't go any where else but here

Woodlands Auto Repair
I found Alex after moving here from Florida 5 years ago. My air went out in my car. and I had it checked at a local drive thru oil change and repair shop, and they told me I needed a new compressor and the cost was going to be over $1500. My sister-in-law had used Alex for something minor, and told be to just go there and get a second opinion. Much to my surprise, it turned out to be a .50 fuse, and he charged me nothing!! He could have told me anything, I wouldn't have known any better. We have never used anyone since that day. We've recommended him to many people, and the outcome is always great. Our entire family uses him for every auto repair, and regular maintenance work.

First Choice Automotive
Worst repair shop I have ever had to deal with ( but will never have that problem again!!) Had brakes replaced, four new tires installed and tires where balanced. when to work next day, when I went to go home 3 of the the "new" tires were flat. The unskilled installer did not replace the value stems!!!! 3 days later the 2 front brakes were making a noise. took the car to a real repair shop on FM1488 they turned the drums, said that should have been done with the brake Job. Also car was shaking at 60-70 mph because the balancing for the new tires was not done properly. This cost me $875.00 on top of the $2900.00 that I paid to 1st Choice!! Do you and your car a favor....Don't do business with this place!!!!

NTB National Tire & Battery
Do not get your car battery replaced here! I have (over the last few years) had 4 batteries replaced by this NTB in different cars. All of the batteries were "new" with a 3 year "warranty." All of the batteries died completely before 1 year was even up. I had all of the batteries replaced by them under their warranty; the replacements were free, minus the $50 installation fee. The replacement batteries all died within a year as well, giving me almost 2 years on each 3 year brand new (high end) car battery. They will not replace the battery a third time. I personally believe they re-use batteries, they take old ones returned on warranties, add some water and charge it and then sell it to you as new. Maybe my assumption is wrong, but I have never had this issue with batteries purchased anywhere else. Besides this, they are very expensive (even with a coupon for oil changes, ect.) Most of the time the guys in the store are nice enough and they do not typically find problems that I know don't exist (i.e. Jiffy Lube.) You can get an appointment online and they have a decent waiting area with coffee (like every auto repair place.) Overall though, I would not trust this NTB, or NTB as a company. I've been a customer their for many years (going back over 12 years to different NTB stores.) I will never again use NTB, ever, for anything. They have completely lost my trust. They are second to Comcast in my book.If you are looking for a good place to work on your car in the Magnolia area, I suggest Magnolia Auto Specialists (Note: I don't work for them, have stock in them, I wasn't hired by them, ect.) I have just found them to be honest hard workers that charge a fair rate and don't cheat on batteries. Thus I give them a thumbs up for the fair work they have done for me.

Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.
