Hawthorne Building was sincerely the best experience I had living in the Madison area. It is in the absolute best location. It is the closest you can get to the UW-Madison campus, bars, coffee shops, libraries, grocery, salons, etc. I could literally walk to a bar without a coat on.. Haha. I lived in a large efficiency, and it was the largest yet most charming apartment I've seen for the price. It had hard wood floors, huge walk in closet, built in shelfs and dining table. Management is the sweetest, always giving holiday gifts, and always available. Never had a problem with maintenance or management, except one time where I locked myself out (my fault). And on site maintenance let me right in! Very flexible with subleasing, as I was transferred out of state for a job, and subleased my place within a day. The review below me couldn't be more inaccurate, as I can honestly say that I had absolutely NO sighting of bugs, rodents or any other crazy unwanted friends. Heat is also included, and I can say I was NEVER cold. If anything, the apartments were kept much warmer than the normal household..which I'd say is desirable and appreciated during the freezing winter months. My only advice is to apply and get on their list early, as I had slim pickings when I leased due to them going so fast. I really enjoyed my time with Hawthorne and had a lot of love for my place. I am so sad I had to graduate and leave early

My apartment at 444 Hawthorne Ct. was the best and worst experience of my life. The apartment is, on paper, too good to be true, with all of its amenities at an amazing price. However, after living there you realize the extra cost. COCKROACHES. And not that I need to say more after that, but there's also the issue of it always being either too hot or too cold in the winter. At one point they accidentally turned off my heat while it was -30 out. There is at least one maintenance issue per month, which may or may not be handled in a timely manner (I had to wait a month for one of them because they definitely forgot, while things like the roaches were handled within a day). Not only that, but they tried to make ME pay for things that were THEIR fault. If you're an intelligent person who does not get fooled by bullsh*t and doesn't mind roaches, then by all means, live here. If not, run. Run FAR away.

I normally don't write reviews but after living at Midvale Heights for the past three years I have to share how great living here has been. What separates Midvale from the other complexes I've previously lived in is, how the management and maintenance team have been extremely helpful and kind since the day I moved in. For example, earlier this winter my key broke in my lock when I was coming home late one night from work, thankfully the manager, Brenda, answered my phone call and personally made sure I was able to get out of the cold and into my warm home with ease. Her immediate response, despite the time and frigid weather, showed me how much the management truly values its residents and cares for their needs.

Flexible lease, responsive management, pet-friendly, basement storage units, reasonable rent, great location next to Elver Park, nice tenants. I rented here for a few months while between selling my home and buying a new one. Everything in apartment in good working condition and clean. My loft had two large decks, one facing the front, the other facing the woods of Elver Park. Stairwells and halls are a bit beat-up but pretty much what I'd expect for this rent. Overall, a very good experience, positives far outweigh any negatives.
