Dr Barnard is the best! He has/had taken care of two of my cats and four of my dogs. I have never had a problem getting an appointment or receiving a call back from Dr B no matter the time or day. I usually bring all of my dogs at one time for their exams and shots, and he is patient with my millions of questions for each of them. If I have an issue that needs to be addressed immediately and he is out of town, he tells me exactly where I can get the best treatment. The ONLY time we ever waited for an extended period of time waiting for Dr B to come in the room was when a dog was hit by a car and it was a life or death situation. And all of the while we were waiting, a member of his staff would come in to make sure we were doing ok, apologize for the delay and offered to reschedule the appointment if my fur babies were getting restless. If someone doesn't want to have any patience or understanding if there is an delay or emergency, then they should find a different place to go....but, as for me, if one of my fur babies was in a life or death situation, I wouldn't take them anywhere else, and I would hope that the people who had appointments and were waiting for the doctor would understand and be thankful that it wasn't their fur baby in that life or death situation. When it was time to let my sick cat end his suffering, Dr B opened his office so that my fur baby didn't need to suffer for even one more minute. He allowed me the time I needed to say goodbye and even waited for my husband to get there afterward so he could say goodbye too. I have taken my fur babies to different vets before BWAH and I will never go anywhere else! If you want a vet who will care for your pet like it was part of their family, then Dr B and his staff doesn't come any better!

I previously took my 2 dogs to Dr. Barnard for many years. On one occasion, I was concerned about one of my dogs, so I dropped her off at this clinic in the morning and by the later afternoon the doctor had still not seen her. Given that it was getting late and the doctor was still not yet able to look at her, and I did not know if she might need diagnostic testing that only a full service veterinary clinic could provide, (Belleview West is not a full service clinic and on a couple occasions, Dr. Barnard himself instructed me to take my dogs to a full service clinic) I explained to the staff that I wanted to pick my dog up and take her to a full service facility just in case.... and before the work day ended. So that is what I did. My dog ended up getting diagnosed with bone cancer in her hip area. I contacted Dr. Barnard's office and told them the bad news . They said Dr. Barnard would call me. I did not hear from him, so I called again and spoke with his wife who assured me that Dr. Barnard had received my message and would call me. It's a good thing I wasn't holding my breath. Dr. Barnard NEVER called me. This dog treated with him from the time she was a puppy until she got diagnosed at 9 years old. It was devastating and so hurtful that this doctor never called me back. I always felt that the doctor must have gotten angry that I picked my dog up that afternoon and took her somewhere else where she would get seen immediately. It was so sad that I had to have her put down at the cancer specialists office, rather than at Belleview West. Needless to say, I never took my other dog back to Dr. Barnard, and I will never take any dog to him ever again.

Tender Care Animal Hospital
Obviously some people writing reviews on here have questionable morals and aren't averse to lying outright about places. When I went up on here to get the phone number and saw the reviewer who had either obviously never been to the clinic or was faking a bad review for some other reason I had to respond. I took my 14 year old doxie to three other vet clinics for over the course of two years and spent thousands of dollars on misdiagnoses and this vet correctly diagnosed her disease and had her back to acting half her age again in less than a month. The first reviewer is right, the vet gets down on the floor with them and they instantly love her. My other doxie is normally very protective and doesn't like strangers but I brought her along the second time I went and she took to the vet like she'd known her for years. Trust me, I've had cats and dogs for over 40 years in the Denver area and this is by far the best vet I've met.

Columbine Animal Hospital & Emergency Clinic
I must say thank you, thank you, thank you to Dr Lee for saving my sweet girl. She had to have emergency surgery to remove, of all things, a sock and a mess of string from her stomach and intestines. He was very patient and kind in explaining everything to me as I was a blubbering mess at the thought of losing my sweet gal. He was quick to take her to surgery and I am so pleased that all is well. He is an amazing blessing to me and my gal. Because my gal is also epileptic and was having seizures, I am so grateful for all the extra special care that was given to her. Also thank you to Drs. Michelle and Dr Todd for the great care and compassion they have always shown my gal during this visit and all other visits she has had here. To all the techs that were a part of her care, Thank you! The staff here is amazing. I must also include, Lisa and Janice, the girls at the front desk. Always welcoming even in their busy busy days.

My dog loves visiting Dr. Wells at Tender Care Animal Hospital! I have never seen a dog get so excited about going to a vet's office until I started bringing my dog here! My dog, Emma, just had a major surgery to remove an obstruction just over a week ago, and I brought her back in today for a re-check, and and she could not contain her excitement to be back! Dr. Wells clearly loves what she does and is so good with all pets. Ever since we got Emma, Dr. Wells has made herself available to us from giving advice about training to helping us through stressful times. She gets down on the floor and plays with them and really makes each visit fun and relaxing for pets and owners! I recommend Dr. Wells at Tender Care Animal Hospital to everyone who wants a positive experience and relationship with their vet!

We have been going to BWAH for 24 years so even prior to Dr. Barnard taking over the practice. We would not take our cats anywhere else. Dr. Barnard is a skilled and professional vet. At the same time he handles the animals with tender loving care. As soon as he walks into the room he loves on the animals to put them at ease and is also doing an exam at the same time. He never rushes. He listens well. He instills confidence. The staff at BWAH, especially Rhonda and Destiny, are always professional, courteous, efficient, and caring. Don't hesitate for a moment about taking your animals to BWAH.

Columbine Animal Hospital & Emergency Clinic
Both of our dogs have been to Columbine. The staff & doctors are very knowledgable, kind and caring. It's the only place our dogs would run to - literally wining to get out of the car and run to the door! We have taken the dogs there for emergencies & surgeries as well as regular check ups. Dr. Lee, Dr.Gundy, Dr.Todd and Dr.Russell have all been great. My Westie was hospitalized there last weekend and we ended up having to euthanize her. Dr.Russell was so kind and thoughtful, making the sad ending a peaceful & memorable experience. Thank you Columbine! Don't change!!!

Columbine Animal Hospital & Emergency Clinic
Caring and Personal - I have been bringing my pets here for 13 years. They are a bit on the pricey side, but not much more than the other vet offices in the area. They are also more than willing to work with you about how much you can afford to properly take care of your pets. When I brought my dog in to be put down the staff was nothing less than caring and professional. They gave me all the time and comfort I needed. After the fact I received a card in the mail giving even more support. I would never advise anyone to go to another office in town.

Columbine Animal Hospital & Emergency Clinic
I've been taking my dog to Columbine Animal Hospital for several years and I love the entire office. The vaccination clinic is a great time and money saver but I've also been in for emergency appointments. But the entire staff was so great about making me feel at peace with my decision (it just meant slower healing time and more work on my part) and called periodically to check on the dog's progress. My heart and the dog's wound healed fine. I highly recommend taking your pet here

Dr. Wells and the entire staff are great. We needed a new Vet after moving and I'm really glad we found Tender Care. Both our Golden Retreivers loved her. They got lots of treats and she did the entire exam with them on the floor in the exam room. Our older Golden was shaking and nervous when we first got there. I practically had to drag him out the door after the exam was over. Great Vet!
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
