McMann PA
I would not recommend Mark McMann P.A. to anyone for any legal issues. I hired him December 2016, for a simple child support modification and we agreed on a total payment for the case. As the case progressed, McMann P.A. and his staff quickly became difficult to contact via phone when I needed updates on the case. They either returned calls several days later or not at all. During the case, I had also set up several phone consultations with dates and times. McMann P.A. never followed through with any of them.During court mediation he was supposed to show up at the court but claimed at the last minute he was ill, and phoned in instead. During the case we also moved and I notified McMann P.A. twice we had moved, yet his office kept sending the paperwork to the wrong address. We also never received any notice of the deposition via email or at our address. Luckily, I called the day before the deposition to ask about the case and I was finally told the deposition was the next day. If I had not called, I would have missed my own court date as McMann P.A. failed to keep me advised of my case progress. When I did finally receive case documents from his office there was many mis-spellings and grammatical errors. I actually had to contact his office to have them corrected. The case was finally resolved almost 7 months later. Even though the case was resolved without going to trial, and we had already agreed on the payment amount, he then demanded additional money for the case. In closing, I would not recommend attorney McMann P.A. for any legal issues whatsoever. Also, the Florida Bar states McMann P.A. was disciplined and fined by the Florida bar on 6/21/17 for a DUI-driving under the influence, (which he plead guilty in court) and received from the Florida Bar one year probation, fines and court costs.

Darla K. Snead, P.L. Attorney
I referred a friend who needed legal help to Darla Snead, and her office never returned her phone calls. An appointment for a phone conversation with Darla was finally set up, but she never called my friend. The appointment was scheduled for days. Darla stood my friend up without an explanation or an apology. A lawyer should honor her word and treat people with respect--not neglect her commitments. The next day, Darla's assistant, Kristen, was contacted and asked why Darla did not keep her phone appointment? Kristen never gave a reply. After this incident what words do I associate with lawyer Darla Snead: Irresponsible, Unprofessional, Thoughtless, Uncaring, Disrespectful, Discourteous, and Untrustworthy. I can't believe that she would treat my friend so poorly, and if she treated her like dirt, just think how she might treat you.

Law Office of Michael S. Farrell, P.A.
Does not return phone calls or emails. Took 3 months to get a mediation date, 3 months from that. He did not provide any support or do anything to benefit my case; other than reword a single order from opposing counsel before being sent to the judge. He did provide a billing statement of billable hours OR a refund as requested well over 30 days ago.

Merritt Law Offices P A
This is a very greedy man. Terrible attorney. I would not recommend him to anyone. Took total advantage of my 84 yr old mother in law. Overcharged. Did not provide any service. No communication. I don't know how he looks at himself in the mirror. You'd be better off representing yourself than hiring him. He doesn't know what he's doing. Incompetent!

Spivack Law, P.A.
Please do not hire this law firm. I hired this firm in June of 2014 for a child support case. I paid them in access of $4000. He is his partner are now on their own so Mr. Spivak is my P.A. for my law firm. I am in the military so I have to call to get feedback. This man will not call me back nor give me an update on my case and now we are 3 years into this case. This firm is a rip-off that does not care about its clients. Could it be because I am not in Lakeland that he just places my issue to the bottom of his pile. I have no idea where my case stands. I am in the process of contacting the discipline board about his service to me as a client. PLEASE!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS FIRM UNLESS YOU HAVE MONEY TO THROW AWAY!!!

Alvarez Law Firm
I have been through a lot recently with receiving a charge here in Polk county. I regret not going to Mr.Alvarez during my trial and having him represent me, as I was being frugal. Which then unfortunately led to charges on my record. A few years after the everything settled and the case was closed, I pursued Mr.Alvarez for a process to get my record sealed because of the many problems you may face when having anything on your record no matter how minor that may be. Out of the many lawyers I called (7 to be exact), he was the kindest and the only one whom showed the most professionalism out of all. I was able to sit down with him and he explained many different scenarios in regards to how I can go about getting my record cleared. He gave me his time and knowledge even before I made commitment to a purchase. After agreeing on which route I would take, it turned out to be a long process due to the government (6 months to be exact) taking their time to process the request, but Mr.Alvarez stuck by my side throughout it all. Although at the end of the process, I was not approved for the sealment, Mr.Alvarez still put a effort into helping me and guiding me and gave 110%.

Law Office of Tony C Dodds
Tony represented me in a traffic ticket this past August. He and his staff were able to take care of all my concerns very efficiently and professionally, while helping to alleviate my concerns. They have great follow through and promptly responded to my questions. Without a doubt, I will use Tony and his staff should any future legal concerns arise.
Tips & Advices
When it comes time to choose a lawyer, you should start by searching close to home. If you do have attorneys you are familiar with, ask who they believe would be best for you. After going through personal references - especially from individuals who had similar needs - you should broaden your search through public information resources. You can call your area's attorney referral service or check legal organizations like Martindale-Hubbell. There are other resources available online, such as yellowpages.com. You can check websites for client reviews and other third-party forms of approval.
If you sign documents and you come across a word you don't recognize, or you need help to navigate important employment or real estate paperwork. Also, during times when personal matters intersect with legal proceedings, you might need to have an advocate to prevent your emotions from getting in the way. If you've been accused of a crime or are in a terrible financial situation, you can find an attorney who will work with what you have available.
When you hire a lawyer, you're agreeing to work with someone over a certain period of time. The more forthcoming the lawyer appears to be with individual needs, the better.
  • You need to ask questions about how the attorney will communicate with you and what responsibilities you hold in the relationship.
  • The attorney should let you know the best channel for quick communication and you need to inform him or her when you want updates.
  • You should also ask questions to get to know the attorney as an individual in order to ensure this is a person you can trust. Ask about their legal philosophy and how he or she views the lawyer/client relationship. Ask as how to keep fees down or what daily disruptions you should expect from a long legal battle.
You need to ask about every possible fee that will come up when working with an attorney. You should request a list of all costs in advance so you won't be surprised by additional expenses like overhead. Also determine exactly when you will start being billed. You want to inspect paperwork carefully. If the attorney charges you for his or her experience, you need to make sure he or she will perform tasks personally and not hand it off to an assistant. Find out if the attorney has a flat fee or charges by the hour. Many civil lawyers work on contingency. Make inquiries about how the lawyer plans to provide service for your money and what you can do if you start to feel unsatisfied with his or her performance.
You can ask how many similar cases they have handled and if they have special skills or training that applies specifically to your needs. Lawyers can't mention clients by name, but you should ask for basic details about identical past cases. You should check their office for the appropriate certifications and diplomas. You can also ask how long he or she has practiced law and request information that demonstrates the practice's success. Look for precise details such as percentage of cases settled out of court.
