Jerry Monkus - State Farm Insurance Agent
My wife and I have been with Jerry Monkus State Farm Insurance since we moved to Knoxville, TN in 2009. I finally got to speak to Jerry for the first time today (2014) in the form of a complaint. Our homeowners insurance was recently dropped by State Farm due to bad advice that we received from one of the associates who work under Jerry, Elonda. I always considered Elonda the Insurance Agent, since I only spoke to her and I never actually got to speak to Jerry. Though Elonda has always been pleasant enough (if not a bit pushy about getting life insurance) earlier this year she suggested that we go ahead and file a claim for our roof before we even had roofers come look at the damage. We had a slight leak and I knew State Farm could recommend some trustworthy roofers. Well, the roofers came out, did an easy patch job--problem solved. I called Elonda immediately, told her it was an easy fix, and asked her to cancel the roof claim. End of story, right? Not quite. Months later we got a letter in the mail informing us that they were dropping us at the end of the month, due to the fact that we had made 2 claims on our home within 2 years. Even though we have a perfect pay history and great credit, they dropped us. Aside from the fact that being dropped for using the insurance you're PAYING FOR is ridiculous, what really bothers me is that it was the advice I received from Elonda to make the claim prematurely that was the reason we were being dropped. And no money was even paid to us in that claim. Elonda and Jerry both agreed that the advice was bad, but that there was simply nothing they could do. I will be finding new insurance and I will be taking our car insurance elsewhere as well. I will recommend to everyone I know to avoid State Farm Insurance.

Allstate Insurance Agent: Lonnie Jones, Jr.
I have been a customer of Lonnie Jones Allstate Agency for more than 20 years. He and his staff has always been honest and very professional. As I read one person complaint about rates, it seems he has endured some problems. Many insurance agencies will lower a rate to get you in the door, but it will soon change after a few payments and then the true rates come back home. I also want an Agency that has been in business for a duration period that proves it has been successful and honesty is a huge factor I believe that keeps an agencies doors open. I would highly recommend Lonnie Jones agency for all your family needs. "A Happy Customer"

Laura Ash - State Farm Insurance Agent
Laura and the good folks in her office have really gone out of their way to be helpful. Laura even spent time on the phone with the escrow dept of my mortgage company helping to straighten out a mess made by my previous insurance company/agents. Calling the office gets immediate answers to any questions I may have but really, I usually don't have many because they take care of everything so efficiently. I highly recommend Laura Ash.

Tips & Advices
There are many different providers and plan types, so  shopping for life insurance can be complicated. The first step involves understanding the type and amount of life insurance you need. From there, use online tools or contact local insurance agents to get quotes on rates and learn about how to apply.
The cost of a life insurance policy is determined by two things: the guaranteed benefit amount and the individual risk of the policyholder. The latter is more complicated, and includes many  factors, including health, age, and  occupation. As of May 2017, a 30-year-old woman purchasing a 20-year, $250,000 term life policy can expect to pay about $141 per year. For comparison, a 60-year-old woman purchasing the same policy can expect to pay $1,033 per year. Since women have longer life expectancy on average than men, the latter can expect to pay slightly more. The same 20-year, $250,000 term policy will cost a 30-year-old man $156 per year on average.
Certain specialized policies may provide income replacement in the event of disability, disease, or another situation where it may be impossible to work and medical expenses are high. One common alternative is known as an “accidental death and dismemberment” policy. AD&D policies work similarly to term life plans, but will only pay out death benefits when a fatality is caused by an accident, or if the policyholder loses a limb or the ability to see or hear. Death from a heart attack or cancer, for example, is usually not covered by AD&D, but these policies might offer lower premiums than a standard term plan.
Many adults with children choose to buy a term life plan that covers them from the birth of a child until they turn 18, which is often the most cost-effective way to insure against the risk of income loss from unexpected death. While it  is possible to save enough cash or invest to provide even more funds in case of such an emergency, investing is subject to more risk of loss than a life insurance plan, and accumulating enough savings to provide a sizeable safety net can be difficult.
Whole life and universal life plans are each considered a type of “permanent life insurance.” Universal life is often similar in concept to whole life, but offers more flexibility in premium payments and cash withdrawals. For example, you might be able to temporarily pause or reduce premium payments at any time under a universal policy. It’s also often possible to borrow from what you’ve already paid into the plan or against a guaranteed death benefit in the form of a loan.
