We had our roof replaced by J & A Roofing’s 6 months ago. Their free estimate was good (compared to three other roofers) and was exactly what I paid at the end. Great communication (returning calls within 12hrs even after payment). The three workers sent were experienced and had workman’s comp (laborers off the street don’t have it and usually have no experience). They were very polite, clean cut, did not swear and they took the time to answer all of our questions. They also came when scheduled and was done in a few days (not weeks). The roof was installed exactly as in the contract and after words they spent a lot of time searching for nails around the house. This is the first time someone came to work on the house and I didn’t get a nail in my tire! The roof looked excellent and the yard was just as clean as before. When hurricane Sandy came she blew a few shingles off the top ridge of the garage. I expected some hassle because the warranty clearly states not responsible for extreme winds but with no extra charges his men were there the next morning and fixed it! He truly stands behind his work. This is why I would recommend J & A Roofing to my friends. When I tell my friends about my experience they were surprised there wasn’t anything negative that I could say about someone working on my house (this is a rarity with me). So after many hours of thought I found one negativity. The hammering on the roof scared the dog.

I would highly recommend J&A Roofing. They just completed a full replacement of a stading seam metal roof on my home and pool shed. J&A worked quickly and did a fantastic job. The guys were friendly, very skilled and meticulous, with attention to every detail. They are an excellent company to do business with, I plan to hire J&A in the near future to replace the metal roof on my barn.

Nate and his coworkers did a nice job installing a metal roof on my log home. He returned phone calls promptly and kept to the work schedule we agreed upon. I've recommended J&A Roofing to some of my neighbors and plan to have them back to my house to install a snow guard.

Excellent experience -- roof was done promptly and at a fair price. Workmen were pleasant and professional. Clean up at end was amazing -- couldn't believe an old roof was taken down and a new one put up so fast and with hardly any debris.

The work was done professionally, on a timely basis and for a fair price. What more could a customer ask from a contractor?
Tips & Advices
The most common types of roofing material are:
  • Asphalt shingles
  • Metal roofing
  • Slate shingles
  • Concrete roofing
Metal roofing material and algae-resistant asphalt shingles are the appropriate roofing material for rainy climates.
Houses located in  areas which are prone to wildfires, should avoid the use of flammable roofing materials such as wood shingles.
Not only should you ask to get in contact with past clients, it is also recommended that  homeowners visit projects currently underway to see how the contractor or company actually performs during a job. You can also go online and check out other customer reviews.
Reputable roofers do offer a warranty against poor workmanship. Additionally, the material used often carries a warranty from the manufacturer against defects (assuming proper installation). It is the homeowner’s responsibility to check on the availability of all such warranties before any work is performed.
