Colgan Law Firm
In response to the review posted by "Renaldo G" on 6/21/14:The Colgan Law Firm takes client satisfaction seriously and apologizes if this is a former client, as this result is certainly not the typical client experience. Please contact us to resolve the situation and we will certainly address your dissatisfaction. Due to the anonymity of the internet if another attorney posted this review, which based on some of the language in the review that could be the case, posting a false review would be unethical. Unfortunately, some attorneys we have to deal with in writing as having a record is sometimes necessary based on their inconsistent representations and our obligation is always to our clients. We strive to return phone calls and always maintain open lines of communication with opposing counsel but will always represent our client's interests while maintaining "common professional courtesy" with opposing counsel.

Jeffrey A. Dehon, Atty at Law
I never knew that an attorney could be so caring, helpful, honest and sincere until Mr. Jeffrey Dehon. He is the best attorney a person could ever ask for. He was incredibly helpful and he made sure that he represented us in the fullest extent. He walked us through every process and communicated with us as needed. He stood beside us during our case and helped curb some issues we were having with the other party. I could not have found anyone better to represent my family. If you want someone who cares, is incredibly knowledgable and wants to help, please choose Mr. Dehon. He won't let you down. Mr. Dehon is the BEST and the only choice in Kansas for an attorney who will treat you with respect. He treated our private adoption case like it was his own. Also although our case has been finalized and is done, he is still helpful with the last few strings that needed to be tied.

I retained Mr. Dehon for a divorce a few years ago. After calling around for the right attorney, I felt that Mr. Dehon's fees fair and within my budget, but he talked to me as if I was the only client and he was concerned with my needs. He helped me through a difficult time in my life and in the end helped me realize that the end of my marriage was just the beginning of a new chapter in my life, and having him as my attorney didn't leave me broke afterwards.. That is a huge plus! I would use Mr. Dehon again and refer anybody and everybody to him based on his fees and being so personable with his clients!

Alvarez, Timothy M, JD
If you are looking for an experienced Workers Compensation attorney, no need to look any further. Mr. Alvarez was the most impressive attorney we have ever worked with. I spent many hours researching attorneys and I can honestly say, Mr. Alvarez was the best choice. He personally took the time to speak with both my husband and I, made himself available, and delivered a settlement above and beyond what we were expecting; all in an expedited manner. I can see why he was voted 'Best of the Bar' in Workers Compensation. Five+ stars from us!

Colgan Law Firm
I hired this firm to handle my divorce and child custody issues following the divorce. The attorneys and firm employees were attentive and kind in their manner of handling such a difficult situation. I was glad to have such caring individuals voicing my concerns to the Court and advising me of my rights as a parent. I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.

He worked together with me and my husband to come to a mutual agreement which removed a lot of stress and anxiety I had about the process. No one wants to be in this situation but if you find yourself there, I would trust Jeff to help you work towards the best possible resolution available.

Tips & Advices
When it comes time to choose a lawyer, you should start by searching close to home. If you do have attorneys you are familiar with, ask who they believe would be best for you. After going through personal references - especially from individuals who had similar needs - you should broaden your search through public information resources. You can call your area's attorney referral service or check legal organizations like Martindale-Hubbell. There are other resources available online, such as You can check websites for client reviews and other third-party forms of approval.
If you sign documents and you come across a word you don't recognize, or you need help to navigate important employment or real estate paperwork. Also, during times when personal matters intersect with legal proceedings, you might need to have an advocate to prevent your emotions from getting in the way. If you've been accused of a crime or are in a terrible financial situation, you can find an attorney who will work with what you have available.
When you hire a lawyer, you're agreeing to work with someone over a certain period of time. The more forthcoming the lawyer appears to be with individual needs, the better.
  • You need to ask questions about how the attorney will communicate with you and what responsibilities you hold in the relationship.
  • The attorney should let you know the best channel for quick communication and you need to inform him or her when you want updates.
  • You should also ask questions to get to know the attorney as an individual in order to ensure this is a person you can trust. Ask about their legal philosophy and how he or she views the lawyer/client relationship. Ask as how to keep fees down or what daily disruptions you should expect from a long legal battle.
You need to ask about every possible fee that will come up when working with an attorney. You should request a list of all costs in advance so you won't be surprised by additional expenses like overhead. Also determine exactly when you will start being billed. You want to inspect paperwork carefully. If the attorney charges you for his or her experience, you need to make sure he or she will perform tasks personally and not hand it off to an assistant. Find out if the attorney has a flat fee or charges by the hour. Many civil lawyers work on contingency. Make inquiries about how the lawyer plans to provide service for your money and what you can do if you start to feel unsatisfied with his or her performance.
You can ask how many similar cases they have handled and if they have special skills or training that applies specifically to your needs. Lawyers can't mention clients by name, but you should ask for basic details about identical past cases. You should check their office for the appropriate certifications and diplomas. You can also ask how long he or she has practiced law and request information that demonstrates the practice's success. Look for precise details such as percentage of cases settled out of court.
