My wife and I dined at the Corner Bistro early on Friday night. We were quickly seated and met promptly by our waiter. I ordered a drink, my wife ordered wine and we ordered Calamari at the same time as a starter. The drinks arrived promptly and we were served bread and butter. We chatted for a few minutes and both agreed that the Calamari was a little slow in coming, given we had ordered it at the same time we ordered our drinks, however, that did not diminish the dish. When the Calamari arrived it was hot, the batter crisp and the marinara sauce was superb. The added cherry peppers were a nice spicy touch. I would definitely recommend this for a tasty starter. For entrees my wife ordered Shrimp & Scallops which came with mac & cheese. I ordered the Seafood Pasta. The dishes arrived not too long after we finished our entrée. My wife’s said her order was ‘very good’ and was hot and appetizing. I did not get a taste or the shrimp or scallops, but will certainly take her word for it. I did taste the mac & cheese…it was tasty but had a smoky flavor that I did not care for. The Seafood Pasta that I got was also tasty; however it was not hot, only warm. I would have preferred to be hot. Our waiter was attentive and checked back frequently to make sure we had everything we needed and to see if we wanted an additional drink and again to offer dessert. Overall the dinner was ok, but not great. A little pricey for what you get.
There is a server here who is the worst person I've ever seen as far as customer hospitality. She is awful, she is extremely unprofessional, and if I managed that location I would relieve her of her duties. She is light complexioned with red curly hair, and tattoos on her forearm, light eyes. They don't wear name tags so a description is all I have to go by. This is my 5th occurrence dealing with her, and I will no longer give my business, my money to this location for food or fuel, and I'll encourage everyone I know to do the same. As long as she is employed there, I won't patron there. If you love the food like me, may I recommend the location across from Blount Island. The attendants there are always courteous and never snap at customers or move like she doesn't care if you have to return to work or not. They should be given a bonus for their service, with the volume of people they interact with daily.
After hearing good things about this restaurant from a relative, I decided to give it a try. First let me say that this restaurant opens only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (hence the name The Weekend Cafe) I went in last Sunday, and I ordered a $10 plate which included; rice and gravy, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, potato salad, corn bread, and your choice of meat (they have oxtails, smothered/fried porkchops, baked/fried chicken, ribs, and chitterlings, but I opted for smothered porkchops) Everything was delicious, and the pork chops were very tender. To top all of that off, I ordered a slice of red velvet cake (it costs $2), and it was by far, the best I've tasted. Needless to say, I'll be back.
Metro has a great vibe while still maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere. ALWAYS, ALWAYS super-packed, so be prepared to wait a bit, but definitely worth it. The portions are HUGE....I've never been able to clear my plate :) You won't find "Denny's Bargain-pricing" here, but again, you'll most likely end up with a Doggie-bag. Order the Breakfast Pie (it's not a slice, but a WHOLE pie). It's bigger than your face, but so tasty!
