Third and Main LLC
My wife and I stayed at the Third and Main Apartments for two months while I was being treated for prostate cancer at the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute (UF PTI) that is located about one mile away. Our apartment had one bedroom and a den. One and two bedroom apartments are available. Many of their apartments are occupied by UF PTI patients and the staff provide a variety of special services such as weekly social gatherings and visits to nearby restaurants. A very nice restaurant is located on the property and it is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The apartments are about ten years old and are in excellent condition. The staff coordinate their activities with the UF PTI and were very attentive to our needs. They help create a sense of family among the residents. The price of the apartments is reasonable. We recommend Third and Main Apartments highly especially for extended stays of a month or two.

Gilbert Cataract Center
Dr. Gilbert not only is the best cataract surgeon in town, he is also the best diagnostician. After my son's optometrist ignored his drooping, bulging eye I insisted that he see Dr. Gilbert. My son was seen almost immediately and a MRI was scheduled for the same day. Dr Gilbert even left his cell phone # with the MRI tech so he could be more quickly informed of the results. A mass was found behind the eye that was successfully removed by another surgeon. All I can say is thank goodness we did not listen to the optometrist who said it was probably nothing to worry about. Our family will forever be grateful for the expertise and care Dr Gilbert gave us.I know you have to wait in his office to see him. I would rather wait for the best care than immediate see someone for mediocre care. Just take something to read or your iPod.

Discovery Ultrasound
My little one did not cooperate for our first visit. Mom and Dad tried a few techniques in an attempt to get him to move. During the entire process Diane was so patient and even tried to offer suggestions, and gave me candy and cold juice to wake him up. In the end our little boy was just determined to only show his manhood. :) Diane willingly offered a hassle free opportunity to return and try again. It was such a relief. Our little man showed himself very well the second time, it was so great to see him in HDLive! It is stunning to see such detail! His eyes were blinking and his little tongue was sticking out sometimes! Diane never made us feel rushed through the process and made every effort possible to have our family share this sweet moment. I would highly recommend this facility - you will NOT be disappointed.

Naval Hospital
As a Navy wife that has spent many hours in the hospital, for one reason or another, I feel that I must commend Dr. Christine McAdams of the Green team Family Medicine. Having worked at this hospital as well as volunteered many hours there in different places. The Family Medicine green team is without a doubt the best there is. Dr. McAdams has gone above and beyond what one would expect for a physician. She is to be commended for her service and bedside manner. Having worked with doctors, I can honestly say she is one of the best there is. She is tops in her field, and I highly recommend her to anyone. As my husband used too say, "Well done".

Gator Lodge
The Gator lodge has definitely upgraded. Their rooms have been renovated. I've been here for 3 weeks and see not one bug. It's quiet and I felt very safe here with my 7 year old child. There are security cameras all over. The staff is polite and very accommodating. I would recommend this place to my family and friends. And I will definitely visit again. It's conveniently located right across the street from Walmart. And many places within walking distance. I was very impressed with the place.

Knights Inn Jacksonville Downtown
Came here for the Georgia Florida game. Yes the rooms could use some renovations but what is important for me is that the room was clean. The sheets were bright white and smelled clean. The towels looked new. We had one problem with the smoke detector, and it was taken care of quickly. Yes one of the drawers was missing a handle and there was wall patches in the bathroom, but it was clean. Overall we were happy with what got and the price.

Knights Inn Jacksonville Downtown
Stayed here for several days while in the area for business. Room was nice (good to have micro/fridge), and wireless Internet worked great. Breakfast was the usual continental fare, but was nicely presented and adequate. Covenient access to I-10 and I-295, as well as local restuarants and stores. I would agree with some of the other posters that the area is a little sketchy, but I had no problems and was satisified with my stay.

St Vincents Healthcare
This place was OUTSTANDING! Dr Parker was so caring, and really explained things well. Clearly outlined the major concerns and the minor issues, gave us multiple care plans with different approaches in order to decide how to proceed. Office staff was very thorough- especially his ARNP Amanda Peacock. They were so on top of things they had us called back to a room before i finished the new patient paperwork! A+ all the way!

After being treated terribly at Orange Park Medical Center my wife drove me to BMC. I have suffering excruciating pain due to a kidney stone. I was taken in and tended to promptly and courteously. They staff got my pain under control within moments of my arrival. The team here saw to it that I was very well taken care of. I appreciate the effort after experiencing rotten treatment from Orange Park Medical Center.
Tips & Advices
Academic medical centers provide the widest range of specialty care treatments, including the latest technological advances, clinical trials, and surgical techniques. In general, an academic medical center is a better choice than a community hospital for complicated treatments or rare diseases. Pediatric intensive care, especially, is usually performed at academic medical centers.
Academic medical centers offer a broad range of specialized services, from allergists to urologists. Some of the larger medical centers have entire hospitals or clinics focused on a particular medical service, such as cancer treatment, though specialties vary among the centers. Patients whose community hospital or local doctors do not have the facilities or expertise to address complex medical conditions can be referred by their primary care physician or local specialist to a major medical center (there are more than a dozen in the United States).
Yes. In addition to their inpatient hospital services, medical centers can offer a wide variety of outpatient services, such as pain clinics, rehabilitation centers, surgery, imaging and laboratory, mental health treatment, and outpatient cancer treatment. Medical groups – doctors in private practice but affiliated with the medical center--will also have offices within the medical center.
Physicians, nurses, physician’s assistants, residents, and attending physicians makeup the clinical staff of an academic medical center.
Medical center accreditation is not required, but most centers work voluntarily toward accreditation because it represents higher standards of healthcare quality and patient safety.
