Mandarin Landing Animal Hosp
We used Dr. Silverness first for my daughter's pet rat who had massive tumors and we decided to put her down. Dr. Silverness discussed everything with us, talked about other options, and the projected cost. She respected our decision. We later received a nice condolence card my daughter still has. When I needed a vet for our new cat, I tried going somewhere else nearby, but the vet just treated my cat without asking permission or giving me an idea of the cost, elevating a $35 visit to a $115 visit. After paying in full, two weeks later they sent me a bill because they "forgot" to charge me for something. That's when I went back to Dr. Silverness. Every visit, she would outline what kind of things I should consider doing and print out a sheet with the costs on it. I checked off what I wanted and knew exactly what it would cost. Nothing was ever pushed on me. She was wonderful with both of my cats. Unfortunately, she no long has her own practice, but I will follow her wherever she goes.

Mandarin Landing Animal Hosp
I've been very impressed. Dr. Silverness & her therapist took so much time with us! We were at our last straw with Foster & his complications from his FHO surgery. Dr. S set a plan together in terms of physical therapy that we can do at home ( showed me exactly what to do & how) recognized a few things that I think our regular vet may have even over-looked and I believe we are on to seeing some positive results for a change! The facility is very impressive, everyone was freindly. Her rate was very reasonable. I guess the few sourpuss's that are complaining about getting "nickled & dimed" can always go & wait for two hours at the Humane Society Vet Clinic & get tossed around from room to room if they want CHEAP. I can appreciate what the doctor & her staff put into the time, the care & the concern that they gave to me today. My pet is worth it.

Herschel Animal Clinic
I have been visting Herschel Animal Clinic for over 16yrs. I have taken dogs and cats to this place. There is no fluff here, but they know what there doing and treat the animals and you with great respect. A long time ago a Jacksonville woman left all her money to this clinic on the promise that they would keep it affordable and to just take good care of the pets they see. This place has even seen horses. If you have a animal that might need surgery they may refer to you somone else as they do not have all the equipment needed (they work on a tight budget). This is the place to go if you really care about your pest and not helping that other vet pay for his new Jag. There is always a line and it is a first come first service. They have always helped us out and they can help you out too.

Herschel Animal Clinic
I have been going to Herschel animal Hospital for quite a while now I had never read reviews but was trying to find prices for annual shots & ran across them I do not recognize my hospital from some of these reviews ,this is not the hospital I have been going to all these years, I have a little Chihuahua that is a little overweight & while there is usually s wait to see Dr. room is usually full of other animal lovers so time goes very fast. I would not say staff is overly friendly but are good at their jobs & animal is well taken care of, the main thing people should remember is these Drs. are your pets Dr. & that is who needs the service not you. I am so glad Dr. Plant did not leave ,very caring vet.

Mandarin Veterinary Clinic
I have been taking my pets to Mandarin Veterinary clinic for over a decade. When I first moved to Mandarin I tried two other vets before I found one I (and my pets) were happy with - and I could not be happier with Dr. Jones. She has treated my cats with care, skill and concern and helped us all through trying times. My cat Tikki had cancer and Dr. Jones did chemo with him and he lived a long time after the cancer. I had years more with a beloved pet due to those treatments. Dr. Jones takes great care of our cats (Tigger, Genji and KC). KC had a punctured eyeball and Dr. Jones did very delicate eye surgery and saved her eye. I think the clinic, the staff and Dr. Jones are great.

Ark Animal Hospital
I just purchased my puppy from Puppy ave and I received a free visit from Ark Animal Hospital. I have a regular vet but I went any way. Kesha was very helpful answered all of my questions and gave me handouts so that I would have information to read at home. Dr. Maxwell was very through and explained all that was done and what I could expect on the next visit. Lastly April was especially helpful. She went over the discounted vaccine packages available. The discounts came in handy since I just spent a lot of money on Dasher. I was so impressed Ark Animal Hospital is Dashers new Vets.

Ark Animal Hospital
I just want everyone to know how great the doctors are at Ark Animal Hospital. I was visiting family in Jacksonville when I noticed Lily had blood in her urine. I did not know the area and my friends said that if you want the best care to go to Ark Animal Hospital. I called and they took Lily in right away and within an hour they had diagnosed bladder stones. Lily had the surgery that afternoon and went home the same day. I just wanted to let others know that if your pet is really sick and you want the best care then you need go to Ark Animal Hospital.

Ark Animal Hospital
I just want to thank every one at Ark Animal Hospital for taking care of my kitty. She was very sick and had to stay at the hospital for over a week. She was fed every 2 hours with a feeding tube until we could get her to eat. They let us come to visit her any time we wanted for as long as we wanted. She was in a special room with windows so that everyone in the hospital could keep an eye on her. We appreciate the extra care and love Miss Kitty received. Thank you all so much Diane

Ark Animal Hospital
I came home and found my dog ate glass. I went to my vet but they wanted to do an expensive surgery. My neighbor recommended Ark Animal Hospital. I was able to see the Dr Maxwell right away. They took x rays of Duke and I could see the glass. Dr. Maxwell gave me several options that fit my budget. After 2 days the glass passed and we did not have to do the surgery. If you are in need of a second opinion, they can help you.

Ark Animal Hospital
My dog Milo was very sick and treated at another hospital and did not get better. On advice from my neighbor, I went to Ark Animal Hospital for a second opinion. They were able to do tests right there in the hospital, figured out what was wrong and came up with a treatment plan that I could do at home instead of keeping in the hospital. Milo is back to his old self again. Thank you Ark Animal Hospital for help Milo and Me
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
