R Scott Murphy DDS MD
I was recommended by another dentist to go to Scott because I had a tooth that needed extracted. I went to his office, his staff at the desk seemed nice and all, and they had me fill out some paperwork. I get invited by his assistant to a room to have my teeth examined, she was nice but a bit stuck up. He came in and answered all of my questions (granted, I'm 21 and all of my internet research on tooth extraction made me a bit paranoid). Afterwords, we went to another room where his assistant had me sit. He numbed my tooth (she was being nicer to me then) then he gave me 2 shots. After that, he clamped my tooth with a tool, told me it could potentially break due to a hole being there, then he pulled it. The pulling never hurt, just the shot. After reading mixed reviews, i think some people don't like him but it's like my dentist told me: this guy just isn't much of a talker. He really just goes in, gets his work done, and goes. But if you have questions for him, he will answer. I asked everything from if my teeth would shift to what the small black mark on my tooth in the back was (he said it just looked like staining, I take very good care of my teeth actually. Floss, brush, etc.). I think people need to realize that doctors and dentists aren't mind readers. If you want them to spend more time with you, you have to tell them what you think is wrong and ask questions. Once I asked him everything, my mind was put at ease. Granted, when i am writing this, I just had it pulled very recently. So unless something bad happens where I have to change this review, I will say that he's really not that bad a dentist; just wish he was more vocal. Oh and whoever said his equipment is unsanitary, trust me, I looked at every tool due to the sheer fact I am a germaphobia. There was nothing wrong with his equipment, all of it looked clean. You all have to remember that these people won't remain in practice if they do things like that...

Gunn Family Dentistry
Yes, the building is small and older but the staff makes up for that in spades! My appointment was scheduled first in the morning yet I still had to wait 40 minutes before being seen. Once I was in a room service was super fast and friendly. My teeth aren't in the greatest of shape but unlike other dentists I've seen they didn't make me feel ashamed. They were truly there to help. Dr. Gunn kept me smiling and he made me feel comfortable. I've definitely found a new dentist for my family.

I hadn't been to the dentist in a long time, so I was pretty worried going in. However, they made me feel extremely comfortable and all of my problems were taken care of by the time I left. They were very careful when cleaning around my cavities, and I would definitely refer them to any one.

Tips & Advices
  • If a tooth decays and the nerves or pulp (soft internal tissue which helps teeth develop) become inflamed or infected
  • If a tooth is cracked or broken and nerves are exposed
This generally depends on any specific issues you wish to address with your teeth. There are toothpastes designed to whiten teeth, fight cavities, decrease sensitivity, prevent bad breath, resist gingivitis, and those specific to children (with lower fluoride content). There are also toothpastes that offer “complete” protection by combining aspects of many of the above toothpastes.
It’s recommended to get a professional cleaning at least two times per year.
  • Desensitizing toothpaste numbs the nerves in the teeth that can cause discomfort.
  • Mouth guard can protect against grinding teeth during sleep.
  • Fluoride treatment can be applied by dentists to sensitive areas to numb teeth and strengthen enamel.
  • Root canal can treat problems in a tooth’s core.
  • Surgical gum graft where a piece of gum tissue is removed from a section of the mouth to cover an exposed root.
Not everyone needs to have their wisdom teeth removed, but there are certain signs that can help you and your doctor determine if yours should be:
  • Wisdom teeth are pushing other teeth around, causing pain and misalignment
  • Cysts form around newly emerged wisdom teeth, causing jaw damage
  • Gums get inflamed and swollen, causing cavities and pain
  • Doctor determine from x-rays that wisdom teeth will cause problems in the near future
