  • My new Rheem 18 seer unit!

    I called Comfort Concepts Services in May for a bid on a new A/C and Heater! They were one of 4 local companies that we called out. The gentleman that came out was on time, very neat, in uniform with credentials visable. He listened to my needs and concerns. He presented me with four different options, explained each one and took the time to answer questions. I have all ready recomended them to friends and family, and next summer I am going to change out my other unit amd add some insulation! I wont be calling 4 companies this time! Thanks Charles, Jessie, and Chris for taking care of an old man!

  • I hired these guys last winter...

    I hired these guys last winter to install a complete AC/Heat system. I paid a premium price, $8,000, for a high-end, high efficiency system, mainly because it would qualify for two different gov't rebate programs. I was quoted a 16-SEER system that used a 2-speed blower to save money. When they installed it, the AHRI certification was only 15.2 SEER, which would not qualify for the rebates. I wouldn't pay them until they would do something that would qualify me for the rebates. So they faked the paperwork so I could get an official form. OK, no huge deal to me, it's on their concience, not mine.

    But now that it's summer and the AC is running, I learn that the 2-speed blower won't work with the AC because of the matchup with the condenser. It's only a 1-speed AC.

    So not only did they quote 16 SEER and only deliver 15.2, now I'm most likely not even getting that since the system is mismatched. I can only conclude they didn't install very many of these high-efficiency units. I must be the only sucker.

    I honestly don't see how it could have been so mis-matched. Every one of these local AC contractors just do the same thing: they pick the equipment from the manufacturer's lists, and the manufacturers charge them all about the same, So all you're paying for is the expertise of the installers. But in my case, some one at Comfort Concepts mis-matched the system. I paid a lot of bucks for a high-end system, and only got one slightly above average.

    On the positive side, the system is higher than average and works well. It's likely much more efficient than the 15-year old one that I replaced. Also credit to the Comfort Concept installers, who did a great job.

    But the guy who matched the system did not appear to know what he was doing. I checked the model numbers on an online message board with people in the business, and they caught the mistake right away.
