Gerber Collision & Glass
I recently brought in my vehicle to Gerber Collision & Glass and had a terrific experience. This company is the epitome of customer service. After dealing with my insurance company it was refreshing to work with honest, competent, and friendly people. Bev, the secretary, graciously helped me navigate my insurance options and Jay Steinbach, the general manager, provided the estimate in a timely fashion. The estimate to replace the back-hatch panel was close to $900, as my insurance had a $1000 deductible I asked if there was a to fix the back-hatch panel to just make it functional again (the handle no longer worked to open the hatch). Jay said he would see what he could do and estimated that unless he had to replace the handle he could do for around $100. After 45 minutes, he returned the vehicle with a fully functional hatch handle, he also popped out the dent. After Jay explained what he had done I asked how much I owed him, he said, “Don’t worry about it”, and handed me the keys.

G. T. Sales and Service Inc
My family has used Georgetown Auto for over three decades. They are quick and thorough, highly trustworthy, and always willing to save the car-owner as much money as possible...a combination not easy. My dad worked for GM for over 30 years and has always fixed our cars. When he doesn't know what to do, he goes to G T Auto. The last job they did for me: My Pontiac Bonneville had a reading of "cylinder misfire" according to Auto Zone. It ended up being something entirely different. Now my car runs GREAT! I know I could not have better work done elsewhere AND I feel relieved to know that I wasn't taken advantage of. There is no one we trust more with our cars!
Tips & Advices
If you have comprehensive coverage, some - if not all - of the windshield repair and replacement costs are covered by the insurance company. Check with your insurance company to inquire about what they are able to pay. It’s also important to consider the deductible. If the cost of the replacement/repair is greater than the current deductible, the insurance company can cover the difference. But if the repair costs are less than the deductible, you will have to pay the full cost out of pocket.
Generally, most professionals can install a new windshield in around one hour and can make repairs in less than 30 minutes.
Wait 24 hours before entering a car wash with a new or repaired windshield. The high water pressures and cleaning chemicals could damage the windshield adhesive.
Most professional installers advise waiting an hour before driving again with a new or repaired windshield.
The cost of replacing a windshield can vary even more than getting it repaired, because the vehicle’s make and model, not the severity of the crack/chip, determine costs. Newer and higher-end vehicles cost more to have their windshields replaced because certain manufacturers use modified or proprietary glass types.
