Sunday at Kays is the best night for industry folk. The juke box is the best since Decades left Richmond Ave and the bartender Mike makes you feel right at home. It's got beer pong and on the back patio, a room with steel darts, a texas shaped table. No one will know your name but it's the kind of place you want to introduce yourself to customers. Sunday night is Brats, Beer and Industry. I'm going to check Mike out on day shift the rest of the week.
You know an establishment is sketchy if they have to have a marketing scheme like: free hotdog Mondays... It really is the best place, in my opinion, to have a laid back evening with your friends or some laid back female friend of yours. I remember that I even went to an engagement party here for some real cowboys.
I love the atmosphere and the seedy nature of a bar that doesn't have liquor and allows you to bring your own. I also like the new porch that they construced outside for use when Houston weather is not unbearable. It really provides a nice view of allof the drunk classy people coming from The Volcano.
Their construction of a Texas shaped table may seem foolish to some, but for those of us who love our state, there is nothing better. It even helps to add seating room to watch one of the numerous televisions streaming professional sports that are situated around the bar.
Went there and they ran out of regular glasses so they started using plastic cups which were significantly smaller than the normal size but still charged the same price. rip off. Then I wake up the next morning with my hangover and look at my bank account and they over charged my account by $15.00 . The bartender wrote over my signed receipt and gave herself a much nicer tip. I had already tipped her well.
We love Kay's. Small bar with pool tables and a Texas shaped table in the middle. Great bartenders. Really good late night pizza.
I go to Kay's. It's always a good time because that's where my go. However, this is the dirtiest place I've ever been in. There is a cake of dirty (literally) on every light fixture and the ceiling is this greenish-brown. It's the foamy ceiling so I'm not sure if it's years of cigarette smoke or mold. We all have sneezing fits and then are clogged and congested for 2-3 days afterward. I has to be a health hazard. Where is the health inspector? Either way, it's disgusting. I try not to pay too much attention to the atmosphere when I'm there. The place smells horrible too. I'm sure it's years of cigarette and dirt but it's seeped into every surface and will probably always smell. I go home and take off my clothes in the laundry room. If I take them off in the my closet and put them in the hamper, my whole closet (including my clean clothes) stink. Then there's the time I was in the bathroom (don't get me started) and the biggest r0ach I've ever seen crawled across my foot. I was in flip flops and still gag at the thought. And to top it off, they serve food. The pizza is actually great but the thought of what's in the kitchen makes me cringe and certainly curbs my appetite. What a great diet tool. This place should close for a week for professional cleaners to come in. Or, since their regulars are so loyal, have a cleaning party one night...everyone come in and clean the place. This place could be the ultimate Texas bar. Unfortunately the owner (Dwayne Marshall) seems too cheap and out for a buck.
I have been coming to this bar for years, once your a regular - you will always be a regular - no major changes are ever mad so you never feel like if you were gone for a long time your bar has changed. People who frequent this bar call it ""My Bar"" because it feels like home. Friendly service, friendly people, it's all around great place to hang out after work, on the late night, or just to stop in, play some pool or darts and just take in the atmosphere.
My 2nd home. Great fun, no trouble ever, nice people both staff and bar crowd. Cheap, fun for a date, down to earth. GO THERE
Great little out of the way dive bar. Laid back. Within crawling distance of Volcano. And I recall they had Chimay. On tap. With a free novelty glass. Random - in the good way.
The answer: Kay's for Willie, pizza, and Guinness. Marquis for people-watching, smoking, and Bud Light.
Both bars have the Lovett cheer scribled on the mens' room wall, and I didn't do it.
Kay's is a second home for me and for several of my friends. It's a wonderful place to go and hang out. They have one of the most diverse jukeboxes in metro Houston and there's always some sort of sports on the tube. They sell Lone Star, so that right there tells you it's a great place.
