Chapelwood is a very diverse church where all spiritual needs are explored and nutured. I especially like Mercy Street on satruday night, a low key service which is a service designed for people who have been burned by the church, recovering alcholics, or people who just want to wear jeans to church. Our minister was even an alcoholic and through god's grace we all can find a path to something that is bigger than ourselves. You can become as involved as you want to be.\r \r Ann

Finally I can say we found a home. My family and I moved back home from San Antonio about a year ago, we have been searching for a church. The praise and worship here is amazing as well as the Preaching!! The Pastor was on point with his teaching and did not sugarcoat the word of God. This church welcomed us with open arms and made us feel at home. My boys loved it!! Praise God we found a home.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Pastor Brown of Salt Mine Ministries was very well studied in the word of God. She is an exceptional teacher, preacher, and counselor. Pastor Brown also carries the Theology credentials to fortify her standing as a community and spiritual leader as well as role model; she has earned a degree of Th.D (Doctorate in Theology). There is a warm, caring, loving, and spirit filled atmosphere at this church. It is a small white church that sits on an inner city block that shines as an oasis in this neighborhood. I happen to prefer smaller churches, as I have attended some of the mega churches in the city and felt lost in the shuffle. At this church I am fully engaged in the Chrisitian spiritual experience. All of the members were welcoming, very nice, and inviting. I enjoyed the service and have attended several times since my first visit. I am now under serious consideration of joining this ministry. They even serve breakfast after the morning service (How cool is that?) :-)

Sometimes we think the volunteers are very rude just because they have to help prepare everything at the church runs smoothly. I used to think that way too. I had a visitor who came to visit from Indonesia and wanted to attend Lakewood by the time he was queuing to have Joel Books autographed, a volunteer said no more because it was too long already, please come again next week. he was going back to Indonesia the next day. At another time I reserved the seat for a friend who was coming it was already 15 minutes past the normal service time, a volunteer came and asked me to release the seat to another guest. This is just the job of the volunteer to make everything runs in order for the service. I think we have to put our selves in the volunteers' shoes before we judge them they are rude. Hope everybody will enjoy the Lakewood services like we do.

I was first attracted to this church when I was walking my dog on a Sunday morning and saw these people milling around outside drinking coffee, talking, and laughing with little kids running everywhere. These things are not unusual to see outside a church, but what made me pay attention was the variety of people I saw doing them...people with dreds, young, old, African Americans,Caucasions, Asians, Latinos - and as I got closer, I could hear such a variety of accents...there was all kinds of people from obviously different cultures. And I heard this incredible music coming out the doors. I was interested - or maybe ""intrigued"" is a better word. I went home, threw on some more decent clothes and went back (not that I needed to because it is very casual). That was 9 years ago, and I have never left. I love this church for its diversity, mission, authenticity, values...but most of all, I love this church because of its people.

For 20 years I did not go to a church. Then I found this one and realized that it could nurture my spiritual growth in so many ways without making me feel bad in the process. I love the ministers, the people, the energy, the new sanctuary, and the vision of being a dynamic spiritual center. I have so many friends there I can hardly meet with them all. If you're looking for a place to spark your spiritual growth and keep you motivated and feeling good about yourself, as well as a place to be of more service, this is as good a place as you'll find.
