Brakes and Etc
Mr. Johnson's price to fix my alternator and struts were very reasonable. I went to another mechanic and he was trying to tell me that I need additional work. Luckily, a co-worker referred me to this shop and my cost was 1/2 of the original quote. Will definitely return.

Brake Check Office
125k Chevy Silverado, breaks never touched. Requested estimate Tomball Brake Check. Truck put on rack, wheels pulled, estimate ($500). Made an appt. Billed $453. Got home rear wheels smelling bad and hot. Took vehicle back, now the calipers need maint. another $80. Nothing said on first estimate or pad installment. Went home, same bad smell and super hot. Left truck in the driveway in case it caught fire. Back to BC. This time replaced calipers and hoses to the tune of $535. We had a discussion about the labor charges and cost of the calibers. None of this was mentioned or even suggested on the initial estimate. Brent the employee who did the work was and is great. The shop mngr, the who did the estimate not worth a damn. Will not ever go back to BC nor give a positive recommendation.

Brake Check
DO NOT GO HERE! I went to Brake Check because my brakes didn't work on a couple of stops. They quoted me $400 worth of labor and parts. Then, told me to come back the next day when the parts would come in. I couldn't even leave the parking lot because my brakes barely worked. I told the mechanic. He said he would put them back to where I started. This made me leery and I didn't go back. I went to another place. They did a brake flush and bled the brake line (got the air out it) and I was good to go. To be sure, I went to a third place and got a brake inspection. They said, "no problems."

Ripley's Muffler & Brakes
My friend recommended this shop to me, took my car in, they found what was wrong, gave me a ride home, charged me a fair price, and were very nice! I would also recommend to anyone!

Ripley's Muffler & Brakes
This is Tommy Ripley of Ripley's Muffler and Brakes.I am writing in response to your dissatisfaction of the charges for your repair. I tried to investigate this situation and my Manager is not familiar with your car. I would love to clear this up. Please call 281-444-3885 and ask for me.It is true that technicians beat the estimated time quite frequently. The times are based off of a nationally recognized Labor Estimator. At Ripley's we pride ourselves in taking care of customers. Please feel free to call with any concerns.

Ripley's Muffler & Brakes
GREED. Have done a lot of business with them only because they are convenient. Took car in for exhaust repair. Was told by Mgr that it would take 3.5 hrs at i believe was $80 hr, not quite sure. the tech finished in 2 hrs and 45 min. went to pay and was charged the full 3.5 hours. Questioned Mgr and his exact words were "i can't help it if he's good and finished early. Any other tech would have finished in 3.5 hrs" After going back and forth with this moron i just paid him and got out. Never again. Nothing but greed even after all the business i gave him. Plenty other muffler shops out there that can do a better job. I even had to tell the tech to level the mufflers he put on or he would have just left them crooked.

Ripley's Muffler & Brakes
I'm not much for writing reviews, but felt like after all of these years it was time. I've been going to Ripley's for well over thirty years. I've always been pleased with the service and feel as if the people that work there are like family. I notice some negative reviews and that's unfortunate, but I guess that's going to happen no matter what business you're in. Ripley's is a family owned business that's always treated me and my family and friends farly. If there ever is an issue, you can talk directly to the owner and they will explain things and make them right. I know when I go there that they will be honest with me, treat me like family and an old friend, and fix whatever needs fixed without charging for a lot of other things like a lot of other shops I've been to. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen them help people with minor issues and merely send them on there way without a charge and tell them to come back when something needs fixed. A small business does not stay active for forty years in this day and age without being honest, and treating people fairly at a resonable price. It warms my heart to still see a small family owned business operating in Houston, that stands behind it's work, treats you like one of there own, and is always there&willing to help if ever there is a problem. I've dealt with many repair shops over the years, and this is by far the best, with a staff that's been there for many, many years. It's nice to know there are still businesses that put the customer first, treat you like family, and really care for you and your problems. God bless Ripley's and their staff.
Tips & Advices
Ceramic brake pads are made from dense, durable ceramic. They are favored for their relative silence while driving compared to metal or organic brake pads. They also have little wear and tear on the overall brake system and are very reliable. However, they are more expensive than metal or organic brake pads. Additionally, their performance deteriorates in extreme driving conditions.
Brake rotors typically last between 30,000 and 70,000 miles.
Brake shoes are used in drum brakes--rather than disc brakes--which is the original braking system designed for vehicles. Just as brake pads are the friction component of disc brakes, brake shoes are the friction component of drum brakes. When the brakes are applied, a wheel cylinder pushes the brake shoe against the brake drums, which spin while the vehicle is in motion, and causes the vehicle to stop.
A squeaking or squealing sound when applying newly replaced brakes is normal. It comes from the rotor vibrating against the new brake pads. It should quiet down after about 250 miles, and should be more or less silent by 750 miles, when the brake system has had some time to synchronize itself.
This depends on the car, the brake system, and the car owner's driving habits. Typically, a car's brakes should be replaced after about 50,000 miles, but some car's brakes may last anywhere from 25,000 to 70,000 miles. Car owners shouldn't wait for a magic number to replace their brakes. They should check them regularly, and pay close attention if they hear any weird noises or if the car feels shaky while braking. Brakes are a critical safety component of a car, so it's important to stay on top of brake maintenance.
