Northwest Animal Hospital
If it were possible to give Dr. Huckabee a ZERO, I'd do it. After about 10 yrs. of using this Clinic, I will be taking my cat to a Vet in SW Houston who I know and trust. Don't know what's happened to the gentleness factor with this Clinic, but my requests to spare my 17 yr. old cat trauma were completely ignored, 1st by a tech and substitute vet (which I complained about), then, yesterday by Dr. Huckabee herself. My requests were not out of line; using the muzzle so cat didn't have to be held down so hard (the tech), and making blood draw from neck [easier & much less painful], instead of his front paw, in which he screamed, kicked and cried (Dr. Huckabee). What do I have to do to be heard? If you want your requests as a pet owner ignored (esp. if you're a female alone), and don't mind rough treatment of your pet, then, this is the Clinic for you. Otherwise, find another Vet Clinic & save your pet the anguish. I can only surmise Dr. did this on purpose to prove a point (or because she could), or she needs some work on her listening and people skills (which she does). As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Huckabee can sit and spin on it; I'm trying to refrain from using The B word, which she most definitely is one of those. My old cat will NEVER be seeing Northwest Animal Hospital again. Poor little guy...

Forest West Animal Clinic
Was referred here after my vets office was damaged in flood.. Took my 11 year old for pyometra surgery... pyometra is a life threatening disease and surgery was the only option. Bc of a previous horrible surgery experience years ago that resulted in my fur baby’s death, I was terrified and nervous about this. But the entire staff is amazing, friendly and helpful. Their prices are SO reasonable too... as pet care can get VERY expensive ... I cannot be more grateful for this place!!

Forest West Animal Clinic
I LOVE Dr. Griggs and her staff! I had to take my Bengal in 12 days ago due to losing weight (9 lbs) within 6 months and having an occasional seizure. I took him 4 months ago to an emergency animal clinic and they did not listen to what I was attempting to tell them. All they were concerned about was racking up my bill by insisting that he had a back injury and needed and CT & MRI. Yeah no. So I ended up here on the recommendation of my co-worker and I am so happy that I listened to her! Dr. Griggs listened to me explain the last 6 months so we started with blood work and a couple of antibiotics and probiotics until the results came in. The next day she called and said that he has hyperthyroidism and had the pills ready for me to pick up. When I got home with the new medication I noticed that her staff SPLIT all his thyroid meds so that they can be ready to give him, without me having to stress how to cut a TINY pill. His follow up was very good also. She is very caring, listens and is super gentle with my cat. Other vets in the past have been very rough and he in turn will bite them.

Grasshoff Veterinary Clinic
Dr Grasshoff and her staff were very kind and compassionate when we had to make the hard decision to let our fur baby go, Shasta was in so much pain.... as were we, I can't say enough about the professionalism and support shown to us! I wish, no one would have to go through this heartbreak, but attitude and kindness can make a huge difference in the lives of those in crisis. Thank you! Kathy Glynn

Westbury Animal Hospital
I own an English bulldog name Cody, my first visit to this vet was sometimes in May 2017, I boarded my dog there a couple of times and had him vaccinated. The weekend of Hurricane Harvey I had traveled to New York and boarded my dog for 3 days, getting back to Houston, my house was flooded and was inhabitable, I called the this vet and informed them I wouldn't be able to pick up Cody because roads were closed, my house was flooded and I had to stay in a hotel, my dog was there for 10 days and on pick up the cashier told me I had to pay every cent for the total stay or my pet will not be released to me, I was in total shock, the whole city was devastated, roads closed and shut down and no sympathy at all from these vet place, I had to pay for the whole duration of stay before my puppy was released to me. I swore never to go close to that vet again. Service is Zero!!!

Summerwood Veterinary Clinic
DO NOT come here unless you want your pet to be handled by UNFRIENDLY staff and be stuck by UNLISCENED professionals that DO NOT have so much as a certificate, degree nor are enrolled in a higher education program. Wait times are extremely long, staff is unprofessional and unfriendly, and it seems like no one except the one veterinarian knows what’s going on most of the time. Sorry Summerwood Vet, I’d rather have my babies taken care of by LISCENED PROFESSIONALS instead of the average joes such as Melissa and Brandan you seem to hire off the street.

Beechnut Animal Hospital
The doctors and staff at Beechnut Animal Hospital are excellent! I'm always greeted warmly. The front desk always lets me know if there is an emergency and there is an unexpected delay. Equally important, when my pet has been the emergency, I've walked in the front door and was escorted directly into an exam room with staff waiting. The care by the doctors is continually superior with thorough explanations of the animal's problem and options for treatment. At no time is there any treatment rendered without addressing the owner's financial concerns. You could not find a better hospital to help you take care of your furry family.

Forest West Animal Clinic
We have used Forest West for 20 years. Very satisfied with them .
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
