Whitey's German Automotive
I've known and done business with Whitey Worsham since 1995. Whitey is the owner/operator of German Automotive in Fletcher North Carolina. In all my years of dealing with Whitey he has been: Honest to the core, Very Knowledgeable about automotive machining, Extremely knowledgeable about the Volkswagen Air Cooled engine line in all variations and dependable/trustworthy to a fault. He is a person who prides himself in giving great service to and taking care of his customers. If someone has a problem with Whitey, in my opinion/experience, they went Way Out of Their Way to cause it, because Whitey will bend over backwards trying to help and or satisfy a customer. However, as you may know from your own experience, you simply can not satisfy some people no matter what you do.I believe Whitey opened his business in the late 1970's. Anyone who has been in business that long must be doing things right. You can't stay open for 37 + years in the same location, in a small community if you haven't taken care of your customers and provided good service. This recommendation of Whitey as a person and German Automotive as a business shouldn't be taken lightly. I drove my first VW beetle in 1957. I have been in a Volkswagen based business since 1975. I have owned 497 Volkswagens all at the same time and currently own 93.If anyone had or has a problem with Whitey, I can only say that if you want to be treated like a gentleman, then you must act like one.Lynn Ernst/ Illinois

Whitey's German Automotive
I have been dealing with Whitey at German Automotive since 1985. I have restored many vehicles and used Whitey exclusively for all my engine parts and machine work. My last was a 2017 cc stroker for my 60 doublecab. Whitey sold me all the parts, machined all the various parts as needed and basically made this engine "idiot proof" to build. I did have a problem with the full flow oil pump cover plate (threads stripped) I made a call to Whitey and he shipped another out the same day and didn't even asked for the one I had back. I trust Whitey and the parts he sales. I would let no one else do my machine work for me nor would I purchase "mail order" parts due to the fact I like knowing the person on the other side of the counter "Whitey" is a VW fan as well and sells the same parts to me that he uses on his own vehicles.

I have dealt with Whitey since 1987 and always had excellent service, parts and he always goes out of his way to offer the best solution for a fix. I have told people for years about his business. if he does not have what you are looking for he can get it quick. The best part is yes you can deal with the multitudes of mail order places in magazines or online but you cant replace the one on one personal service you get from someone near you. when you deal with mail order its always a pain if the part is not right or breaks but when you deal with someone like Whitey who goes out of his way to make it right you just cant beat that.. sadly because of the mail order too many of our local people like Whitey are fading away. do yourself a favor and deal with someone who you can trust like Whitey..

I've had several VWs since my high school days and well into college. Whitey has always provided me with honest advice and quality parts. I even crashed my bug in college (not my fault) and he worked with the insurance company & body shop getting them what they needed to repair my car. Whitey is a very honest and capable business owner. He is "old school" so he not only respects people, he expects respect in return and holds people accountable if they try and take advantage of him or his services. These days with the internet and big box stores taking over, it's nice to find a specialist who knows his stuff and is not afraid to show people the door if they disrespect him or his place. Long live German Automotive!

My pride and joy is my 1972 VW Super Beetle and many many times in the past 6-7 years, I have needed parts for it. All I had to do was call Whitey at German Automotive and the part(s) I needed were readily available. Furthermore, I have thoroughly trusted Whitey in providing the correct part with tips and hints that were very valuable to me. If you are a proud VW owner, the place to shop is German Automotive where you will always receive kind and courteous service! I place my trust in Whitey when it comes to my VW! Thanks Whitey!

Yeah, Whitey is a genuine walking, talking encyclopedia, when it comes to Volkswagens. Whitey, went to great lengths to determine the actual parts needed for my car. He explained, that these cars are all so old, that most of them are not close to original. Making it difficult to determine exactly what is my licensed '74 shell is running with.Whitey asked questions before throwing a part on the counter for me to purchase. I would have to say, Run, don't walk, to German Automotive, if you need VW parts.

German Automotive is a top notch VW parts and machine shop with many years of experience to back it up. Whitey is always helpful and great to deal with and gives expert advice (which you should follow for successful results). There are not many shops left like this anymore and you cannot go wrong shopping here. Whitey is an expert at deciphering old air cooled engines that have been messed with and altered many times over the years by so called mechanics (not an easy job to figure out sometimes).

Having owned 5 different Air Cooled and Water Cooled VWs since 1977, I have to say, go see Whitey. He has always taken the time to ask questions and explain these older vehicles have been modified so much, just because you have a 74 title, does not mean that is what you drive. His experience and knowledge of these older VWs is a fading breed. Go see Whitey for all your Volkswagen parts, he has always done right by us. Thanks, Whitey!

The best air cooled VW shop (and store) this side of the Mississippi I have owned air cooled VW's now for 15 years and always go there for the excellent service and knowledgeable info that he is willing to share. Always willing to order parts if needed and I NEVER had any problems with a return Highly recommended A+++
Tips & Advices
Depending on the part and its overall quality, a good amount of money can be saved by purchasing aftermarket parts versus OEM parts. But aftermarket parts that are low in price might also be lower in quality and could do more harm than good to your car, or they may need to be replaced more frequently than a more expensive counterpart. This could lead to saving some money in the short term, but spending more than anticipated in the long term.
The type of tires being purchased is the most significant determinant of their price. SUV tires are more costly than average car tires. And high-performance tires are more costly than economy grade tires. On average, standard tires for an average-sized vehicle are around $100 per tire. Standard tires for an SUV are around $150 and pick-up truck tires are about $200 on average. Some dealers offer discounts if purchasing more than one tire.
Car inspections typically take about an hour. However the wait time can be longer depending on how busy the shop is. Call ahead for an appointment to avoid long wait times.
Depending on the manufacturer, certain aftermarket parts can be just as reliable as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. But one item within a vehicle, like oil filters for instance, could have multiple manufacturers and there could be inconsistencies in quality among them.
Costs of replacing a windshield can vary greatly depending on a variety of factors:
  • Vehicle make and model
  • How much of the cost insurance will cover
  • Whether the windshield installers come to your location or you bring the vehicle to them
  • Standard service costs of the windshield installers
Generally, newer and higher-end vehicles cost more to have their windshields replaced because certain manufacturers use modified or proprietary glass types.
