Big Al's Mufflers & Brakes
Had some brake work /oil change done on wife"s vehicle back in May 2017;rotors turned also.A couple of days later ; while driving, heard a rattling noise on the under-side near the left front wheel.Tried to look to see where it was coming from.,it occured more when backing up. Called the Pembroke shop, we were in the Denbing area at the timel.Carefully drove to the shop.Mgr. came out to inspect vehicle;could not place car on rack;bays were full.Mgr. surmised, that it was a transmission issue. Drove home . Next day ;took vehicle to Carter"s Corner Auto shop on Pembroke near Buckroe Bch. Diagnosed the problem. Wheel -nuts on left-front had come loose and one nut was missing.when backing up the calipers would hit, causing the noise Cost $30.00.It was suggested that I take it back to Big Al"s for a refund for at least the Brake job. Took vehicle back.; Mgr. called corporate office;which I fervently advised after he [Mgr] offered me $30.00 and Three[3] oil changes. Got to be kidding! We could have had a bad accident out there,I told him. This issue went on for over a month e.g /Had put a complaint with our charge card; could not find fault with Big Al"s.Will never deal with this company ever again

Big Al's Mufflers & Brakes
Had my exhaust installed there 4 years ago. Been back 3 times since. This last time one of my tail pipes fell completely off. They told me the whole system had to be redone and I had to pay for it. I asked if their systems typically need to be redone every few years and the manager said yes. He got mad when I said I wasn't going to continue to pay them for shoddy work. When I picked up my truck my keys were just sitting out on the counter unattended.

Big Al's Mufflers & Brakes
After some confusion on the type of oil used in my oil change, I felt uncomfortable with even a small risk of running with the wrong oil. Despite being very confident that the correct oil was used, the manager offered to re-change my oil and was able to fit me in quickly on a busy weekend. I greatly appreciated the staff's dedication to making sure I was satisfied. They have definitely earned my future business!

Pro Alignment & Auto Repair
This shop is top notch. They keep you informed of everything going on and they are fair with pricing very reasonable. The owner is one of the most honest men I have worked with. They have been working on our vehicles for years and my Son and his family, also works on my Daughters vehicles. They have gone out of their way for people. Seen it with my own eyes. I would recommend them to anyone They are the best at alignment. Thanks HW, JPI

Roy's Repair
Roy’s Auto repair was highly recommended for my older car. I was told that it had an intake manifold air leak. I agreed for him to fix the problem. Later I returned and paid for the service (so I thought) and made it one mile down the road and returned back to Roy’s. I stated that it was running the exact same and engine light is still on. The mechanic stated well it was off for me and end of discussion. After our quick discussion they did not appear to have a clue or to be good that their job anyway. Wished I talked to them first before agreeing. I took it to a Chevy dealer and they told me some additional problems but the biggest was an intake manifold leak. I feel that I donated $500 to Roy’s for no service. In Roy’s defense he stated to bring it back and he would take a look at but could not promise that he would look at it for free. For this I do not recommend bringing your car to Roy’s.

Ace Automotive Services
I almost always took my Dodge Ram and Mercedes to the dealer for everything until I discovered ACE Automotive. They were more than willing to troubleshoot an issue until they were able to fix the problem. I expected a 'dealership' cost for all the effort it took to find the problem but was given an extremely fair price along with the quality work. That was over 5 years ago and since then I won't take my vehicles anywhere else for service, maintenance or repair. Honest and quality work. Thank you!

L G Smith & Son
The first 8 cars in line..this place is slow. Very slow. Customer service is very bad..very poor communication. Where is the cash register??? Needs to be shut down. Facilities in very poor condition.
Tips & Advices
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill. The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done so you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage.
Yes. Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop.
