Tom's Service Center
Best mechanic in Grand Rapids friendly and reasonable. Told me what was wrong and how much it would cost and got the job done asap. Much cheaper than going to a dealership.

Merl's Towing Service
Do not use them no matter how desperate you are. Not only did they screw me with an 800 dollar fee for an undriveable car, but when I PAID it off it was still sent to claims! Now i have to dispute that i paid this several months ago without a receipt because it was paid over the phone! They are nothing but money grabbing scam artists.

Hi-Tech Tire & Service
I wish I could give them zero stars. They say they do things like clean rims for good seal and they lie. I went to discount tire to see if they did what they said they did. I was correct,Goodyear did not do what they said. Poor quality service. Fake technicians.

Merl's Towing Service
Hopefully your car never gets stolen and they are the ones called to tow it because I can guarantee you that they won't even check to see if it was reported stolen. Then, they will stick you with weeks worth of impound fees due to their incompetence. Won't work with you and likely won't respect your circumstance since it doesn't affect them. They are raking in the $$ and do not care about customer service. Avoid.

Auto Lab of Plainfield
Rude petty thiefs. We had a Groupon for 2 oil changes but they refused to honor the 2nd oil change. Terrible business!

Auto Doctor
Gary is very honest and trustworthy. He never tries to trick you into getting more done than what absolutely needs to be done. Always pleasant to deal with. He has serviced my car and many relatives and friends and I've never heard a complaint! He's very busy so sometimes you have to wait to get in or wait a little while to get your car, but it's worth it in the long run!

Complete Automotive Repair Inc
My died when I stopped in Coopersville for gas. Tried to Jump it and nothing. Called AAA and they sent out A two truck. Checked the battery and was good but the connection was bad. He got it started and said I should not drive to Bath, Mi. Said he would follow me to the Alpine Exit and replace the connections. Took about 15 minutes and only charged me for the parts and I was good to go. So grateful for what he did for me. Very nice. I like auto repair shops like this. Would go back if I needed anything if I didn't live so far. Might just go anyway. thank you Complete Automotive Repair.

Walker Auto Service
Can't speak to the management of the place but bought a car from a mechanic that works at Walker Auto and had asked what repairs he foresaw within the next 6 months when we purchased (he said maybe the alternator-he was right-it went within 3 days-otherwise nothing). It did well on a test drive but within a week it was undriveable due to problems with the radiator (among other things) that a mechanic should have been well aware of. When we contacted him about these among other issues he offered to give us a discount on the repairs. This was a private purchase but we were told they also sell cars at the business. Hopefully management is more knowledgable and has more integrity but approach with caution.

Tips & Advices
Depending on the part and its overall quality, a good amount of money can be saved by purchasing aftermarket parts versus OEM parts. But aftermarket parts that are low in price might also be lower in quality and could do more harm than good to your car, or they may need to be replaced more frequently than a more expensive counterpart. This could lead to saving some money in the short term, but spending more than anticipated in the long term.
The type of tires being purchased is the most significant determinant of their price. SUV tires are more costly than average car tires. And high-performance tires are more costly than economy grade tires. On average, standard tires for an average-sized vehicle are around $100 per tire. Standard tires for an SUV are around $150 and pick-up truck tires are about $200 on average. Some dealers offer discounts if purchasing more than one tire.
Car inspections typically take about an hour. However the wait time can be longer depending on how busy the shop is. Call ahead for an appointment to avoid long wait times.
Depending on the manufacturer, certain aftermarket parts can be just as reliable as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. But one item within a vehicle, like oil filters for instance, could have multiple manufacturers and there could be inconsistencies in quality among them.
Costs of replacing a windshield can vary greatly depending on a variety of factors:
  • Vehicle make and model
  • How much of the cost insurance will cover
  • Whether the windshield installers come to your location or you bring the vehicle to them
  • Standard service costs of the windshield installers
Generally, newer and higher-end vehicles cost more to have their windshields replaced because certain manufacturers use modified or proprietary glass types.
