DON'T SEND YOUR LOVED ONE TO THE ATRIUM! The Atrium has gone down hill significantly, it no longer looks clean and organized, staff reductions, and the food is terrible and the portions are tiny. Sometimes they even run out of food and are unable to offer the residents, who eat last (because of how they serve and where they are seated in the dining room) what is offered on the menu. Pork chops so overcooked that you can't cut them even with a knife and vegetables you don't even have to chew because they have been cooked to death. One of the "many" new managers, Gene Geurink is unprofessional, rude, and blames the residents for things they are not responsible for. He believes that all the residents "know" who to talk to when there is a problem or question. According to Mr. Geurink, that person is ONLY him! Mr. Geurink has three other managers working with him. His wife Stephanie, who is nice, but is unable to help unless the question requires a "yes” or "no" answer. The other two managers, which according to Mr. Geurink, are “only in training managers", but work there as "managers". It appears that none of the managers talk to each other...so if you tell the "only in training managers" something important (like giving them your notice that you are moving) they apparently didn't communicate that to Mr. Geurink. So, Mr. Geurink says the residents are at fault and "should know better". He believes that all of the residents know this and would do it the "right way" and don't forget anything! Mr. Geurink, everyone forgets sometimes...especially as we get older! If a prospective new resident came into the Atrium and wanted to sign a contract to reside there, I'm sure your "managers in training" would be happy to sign them up and take their money! Everyone should note that the ATRIUM IS A FOR PROFIT AGENCY (and they do all they can to make money off the residents)! Also note that if your family member pays their rent using an automatic withdrawal from their bank account, make sure you call your bank to verify the automatic withdrawals have been cancelled when you give notice to move out. One of the mangers told me it had been done, but I did not verify this with the bank and was charged for one additional day even though my family member had moved out and turned in their keys to the "managers in training" on the day they said they would be out. I tried to discuss this with the manager Stephanie Geurink, but was told Mr. Geurink would handle this. Mr. Geurink has not handled this even though he said he would in a "heated" discussion. It has now been 3 months with the Atrium making no contact with me. I have been calling for information and have been told by the "managers in training” that the check would be issued in 2 weeks. I have been forced to file a "fraud" investigation with my bank. This is the second time the Atrium charged my family member too much money and did not refund it in a timely manner. The last time this happened, it took me 8 months of calling the Atrium to get the refund. The managers are always blaming the corporate office or someone for not doing what needs to be done. Find a better facility in Grand Junction for your loved one. Check out "The Commons"....what a great place (and it’s a non-profit agency).
