5.O'rorke's Eatery & Spirits

I've been a visitor to Gettysburg for many a year, and find myself frequenting this place just about every visit. Where else can you get a cool Guinness draft, a Sheperds' pie and socialize with the locals and Civil War buffs from around the globe? Weekends usually find enrertainment, and the outdoor dining area is a good way to get a feel for the Stienwehr passersby. This is a #1 stop for reenactors in town, and just a fun, family friendly eatery. If you are lucky enough to be in Gettysburg during October, check out the Remembrance day parade. This commemorates Lincoln's Gettysburg address and finds O'Roarkes a very popular locale! By all means; try the Sheperd's Pie, O'Roarkes' Club, or the Crab pretzel. You will be glad you did! This place is actually owned by authentic Irish folks. You can tell that if they happen to come out and speak to you at the table with their Irish Accent. So all the food is very original. My favorite is the Galic Shrimp, but my husbands is the Bangers and Mash with Blood Pudding. They have specialty burgers with some kind of Beer cheese they put on them, It is a must to go here to eat if you are in town. The inside of the restaurant has that warm homey irish bar feeling. If available ,you can sitt by the fireplace. It's very interesting to sit in here and listen to music on certain nights too.

Located on the site of one of the earliest houses in Gettysburg, The Blue Parrot Bistro continues a tradition of hospitality, which began in 1850 with the Mrs. Schwartz's Oyster Parlor. The Oyster Parlor operated for eight years and then was converted to a private residence. During the Battle of Gettysburg, the residence was said to have housed "A good many surgeons," so it may have been used as a field hospital at the time. Mr. E. H. Minnigh opened a confectionary store here in 1868 and served those delicacies until his death in 1903.In 1920, the then-remodeled candy shop opened as the Blue Parrot Tea Room. Situated on the famous transcontinental Lincoln Highway (US Route 30), The Blue Parrot Tea Room quickly developed a national reputation. The Blue Parrot Tea Room continued to operate as the Adam's House Tavern. In 1988, Holly Giles, Gary Yount, and Chef Allison Giles purchased the historic building. With an appreciation for the tradition of fine dining and their interest in the preservation of old town Gettysburg, they opened The Blue Parrot Bistro. And now, what is a Bistro? Is it casual, homey, and relaxed or is it a sophisticated eatery? At the Blue Parrot we think that both apply. Eclectic furnishings are complimented by and ever-changing exhibition of artwork by local artists. Diners in black tie or blue jeans are greeted with the same friendly, unpretentious service. So, whether you are here for a cheeseburger, a beer, and a game of pool, or you are out for an evening of fine dining, you have come to the right place.

Please get the word out- this place is mediocre at best. My experience there on a slow Wednesday night started off with terrible service. The server came to get drinks after 15 minutes of sitting down. Then returnened another 10 minutes later with our drinks. The pasta was soggy and the chicken was hard as rubber! The bread was the best thing we tasted there!\r \r Then the server was rude to top things off! Please avoid this place if possible!

Clean for a chain, and one of the restaurants that is not a "period" restaurant. The manager was unfriendly and didn't seem to know what he was talking about, but thwa tiress was very attentive. So so food--but what you would expect from a chain.
