This is the best hospital in Fort Worth especially considering how many patients JPS sees on a daily basis. First I would like to start by saying JPS saved my sister's life. She was going to have bladder suspension surgery and after some tests they found that she had stage 2 Hodkins Lymphoma. She is currently in remission due to JPS's excellent health screening. I would like to respond to some of the comments made about JPS. I have been an RN at JPS since 2006 and I must say that I have seen enough to write a book. JPS nurses and Doctors do not get enough credit for the abuse we recieve from patients and their family members. As for the long ER wait... Yes, this is a county hospital and due to the recession we have be seeing more and more of the county's uninsured residents. It is very uncommon for the ER to have less then 100 patients at one time. Harris and Baylor are considered busy when they have 30 patients at one time. Our ER does an excellent job for its patient load and the acuity they get. For the lady who is upset because the nurse did not return her phone call... You are complaining to wrong people. Throughout the US there are HIPPA laws in healthcare. By law, a healthcare provider can not release any information over the phone. We don't know if you are his nosey ex wife or the housekeeper and part of our job is to assure the patients privacy. If the patient requests that the nurse call you, the nurse will do so and will talk to you in front of the patient. I have been in your situation before and I know how much stress that causes but please understand that that nurse wants to keep her job. For the patient who tried to committ suicide and then call 911... Yes, it is against the law to committ or attempt suicide and by law the police can not let you go if they feel you are a threat to yourself or to others. This is called a mental application for detention. Also, all inpatient psychiatric hospitals (Harris Springwood, Baylor All Saints, Millwood) are locked down facilities and it will feel like you are in prison. Please understand that JPS nurses and doctors see the worst of the worst in Tarrant County. We are mentally and physically abused often but we work at JPS because we WANT to. We are a team/ family and our passion is to help people and save lifes. Jps has new management and changes are being made to have even better customer service and patient care. I personally love JPS and there will always be a special place in my heart for this amazing hospital!

7/2013My 91 year old father stayed almost a month at this long term hospital after being referred by a doctor when he was in Baylor All Saints with brain seizures and extreme weakness. The facility was very clean, well staffed and very peaceful. The staff was communicative and friendly, very responsive and helpful most all of the time. The team effort was refreshing because there was so many working to get my dad better including the following:•Several physicians including his doctors, a neurologist, kidney doctor and a urologist who listened us about his personal background and to our requests regarding medication and feeding. •Very caring techs who took their time feeding him 3 times a day and noting where we could see it how much he ate and drank. They were also always willing to come in and reposition him and help us keep him comfortable when he was unable to move himself around. •Nursing staff which changed daily but always ready, willing and able to help, answer questions and pass on info to and from the doctors. •Respiratory and Dietary specialists who visited daily and kept up with his progress and tried to make improvements to help his recovery.•PT, OT and speech (swallowing) therapy team who worked diligently and patiently with him daily in a large and well equipped gym.•A receptionist who has been with Life Care for 17 years who always greeted us with a big smile and happy demeanor.Good attitudes, effective communication and a nice atmosphere helped tremendously as we visited daily even when he was in bad shape and not making much progress. We have been in other facilities that were very nice but it was the staff and administration that brought them down and kept us in a state of constant worry. We were completely happy with Life Care and only wished he could stay longer instead of leaving to go elsewhere when it was time to go to full on rehab at a nearby skilled nursing facility.
I had been seeing Dr. Moore for chronic pain mgmt, & he did a fair job providing it, then about 4 month ago, on a busy day, I waited over an hour just for my Rx's, my nightmare began.They took the directions for one of my meds & put it only one of my other meds. Because I was tired & in pain, I didn't notice until they repeated the error a second time. When I called the office, the medical assistant refused to consider it was an error & told me it was ordered that way, I would have to make another appt, & pay another $30 copy, if I wanted to talk to the doctor or PA. I thought the error was fixed, they told me they didn't give physical Rxs anymore, they would send it electronically. My family member brought my medication home, & I found they had made another error. I reported it & had wait 9 days without my main pain med, only to get there & find the doctor had just left. I asked the staff to catch him, which they wouldn't, so I had to come back the next day, in pain, frustrated & tired. When I got there,a doctor I had never met before told me that, yes, they had made an error, which they wouldn't admit the first two times. He fixed the error & handed me a physical Rx for it. Then the office manager came in & told me they wouldn't see me any longer because I had gotten angry with them & yelled at the medical assistant and hung up on them out of frustration. After taking my break through pain med every 2 hours for 9 days to partially control my pain, I was in pain & over tired, but they had no empathy. If you Use this practice, do so with caution. If they make medication errors 3 times over a few months, you have to wonder what other errors they are making.

I was looking for a doctor for my 69 yr old mother who's field of expertise included geriatrics. It was time for the transition as mom was/is dealing with "brain fog" some days as well as a generalized memory deficit, had experienced 2 minor strokes, minor heart attack, and a stent in one of her cardiac arteries. So, there was no "pressing" issue, with a move placing 70 miles between her and a team of doctors who cared for her well for 20 years, a change was necessary.My research of the area brought us to Dr Collins as one of Dr Carters associates. Dr Carter was my first choice with an extensive CV including a BA in Social Work. I found that Dr Carter only sees employees of JPS as patients.After the initial visit, I found Dr Collins to be a caring, brilliant, confident, capable doctor. Both mom and I are excited to have found this woman and this system (JPS/Life Span) within 20 minutes of moms new home.
Dr. Steven Pedro is a cocky, know it all, brilliant man!!! He worried me at first how for sure he was on things, but hands down knows his you know what! I was diagnosed with chronic hives and had them for over a year and a half. I went to my family doctor, immunologist, and allergist. They all did not know what to do and told me to wait it out. Some gave my steroids which made me gain a lot of weight and weaked my Immune system more. I was covered head to toe and itchy. Dr. Pedro looked at me for 10mins. BAM! Came up with a crazy concoction of medicine and I was cured. My skin is beautiful and clear! I only had to take the medicine for a few months to make sure it was gone. Better yet no weight gain or side effects! Dr. Pedro knows his stuff!!!! Highly HIGHLY recommend him!
