Our 6-year-old papillon Romeo was very lethargic, vomited, etc 7pm Thursday. My vet, gentle care, recommend LVS. They saw him immediately. Money was an issue, we don't have much, but they worked with us & gave him more treatments then we could afford & did not ask us to pay the full amount quoted. . I was crying my eyes out thinking my little dog was going to die because I'm poor. My heart was totally broken! I am eternally grateful to the vet & staff who were wonderful. They all were so kind, patient & understanding. But most of all, they gave us back out sweet Romeo. He still has a bit of follow up & recovery to do but he's still with us & that's all that matters. I'm sorry about the bad reviews I read & more than sorry to heartbroken pet owners. But I have no complaints with LVS & hope I never have to use them again but if I did I would. Thank you all again & forever for saving my baby

I have 2 dogs that I have been taking to Fort Lauderdale Veterinary Center for almost 2 years now. First: the hospital itself is very nice, very clean, smells good, and beautifully designed. Second: the staff is always welcoming and very knowledgable. When I come in me and my dogs are always greeted with a warm smile and my dogs loves the attention. Third: the doctor is unlike any other. Dr. Gonzalez knows exactly what he's doing and is not in the business of doing things that are unnecessary. Everything from cost to the procedure is expressly laid out for me so i can truly make an informed decision. Dr. Gonzalez treats my pets as if they were his own and truly makes me feel so comfortable when they are in his care. Fort Lauderdale is lucky to have such a great vet in the area and I encourage everyone who loves their pets to bring them to a place where they'll be love just as much.

I brought my dog to Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists for the first time when she required after hours emergency care. Just the prior day, someone from the local pet food store provided their number as a "just in case" ER Vet. And I am so thankful for that.Dr. Stavros treated her that night in ER and Dr. Zaslow the next as her critical care specialist. They both immediately put me at ease and felt great relief knowing my dog was in great hands.I trust their knowledge, intentions and ability. They communicate directly, yet patiently, so questions didn't linger after leaving the office. I highly recommend them, especially in time when our pets need the BEST care! Thank you all for taking such good care of my precious baby...

We love Dr. Javier and his team! First class care. The care is very personalized. I have sent him pictures in a text message when I think something is just not right with one of our two four legged kids and he responds back immediately-most often than not letting me know all is okay and no reason to come in. Who does that in this day and age! Any other Vet would want you to come in to charge you for an office visit. You never feel like a number. It's about the best care and fair costs. Dr. Javier and his team give back supporting and raising funds and awareness for many animal charities and doing his part to at in charge take care of animals in need. We have two Golden's and Dr. Javier has been our family pet doctor for 8 years.

My young lab mix loves going to Dr. Gonzalez! Clean office, friendly staff. I have brought her here a few times. Once was unfortunately for a severe allergic reaction. The staff took great care of her & even gave us their personal number in case we had problems after hours. I had a few lingering questions the next day and it was easy to talk to the doctor personally when I called the office. He spent another 15 minutes explaining things to me. Even for the emergency visit, the total was approximately $80 for everything (exam, shots, meds). Of course, prices for medications are more expensive than what you can get online, but they very similar to other vet offices. I highly recommend this practice.

Dr. Gonzalez actually gets right down on the floor with treats, and takes time to make our pets feel special, as well as the owners! I interviewed many vets before I chose to go with Dr. Gonzalez. He actually took the time to take me around, show me all the different rooms and explain how an animal is treated. Being that my husband and I travel internationally, on a frequent basis, we have to obtain the health certificates for our dog. This is definitely the place to bring your pet. Dr. Gonzalez (and staff), I thank you for your professionalism and for the care you show our dog. Kudos to you!

"First, when you walk in the door you immediately notice the fresh, clean smell of a hospital that is well taken care of. The decor is beautiful and not too cluttered. I feel like my animals can relax and if my pet has an accident the staff is right there to help me clean it up. Second, the staff is just wonderful. Always smiling, always attentive to me and my pets, and always accommodating. I've called Dr. Gonzalez in emergency situations and he is right there to help no matter the time of day. He takes pride in his practice and truly loves animals."

My experience with this veterinary hospital was extraordinary! I drove 70 miles to see Dr. Zaslow and his team of boarded veterinary specialists at LVS. They took the time to thoroughly explain Charlie's condition, treatment plan, costs and options. It's obvious the compassion, the love of their patients, the medical expertise and professionalism that make this a Veterinary Hospital that I would recommend to anyone needing specialty care or imaging services. Charlie is a happy dog now wagging his tail daily!

Dr. Gonzalez is the most amazing vet ever. The clinic is gorgeous and the staff is friendly and helpful! Dr. Gonzalez truly cares about his patients and the clients; it shows from the moment you walk into his clinic. I would recommend this clinic over ANY. Once you meet Dr. Gonzalez and experience his beautiful clinic and the personal and loving care your four-legged babies receive..... You will never want to go anywhere else.
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
