So I worked here for a little over a year and let me just start with saying that MELC ruined me for ever putting my children in a daycare if I ever have them. Firstly the workplace is SO catty and dramatic, like a bunch of hormonal teenagers are working there and that negative energy affects the children. Second, the office workers are completely rude and if you're not their favorite, meaning you don't follow their flip-flop rules like a robot, they treat you differently, cut your hours and give you the dirty work. Same for the children too, they are treated differently by most workers if they're not the favorite. Next, the whole center lies. To the parents, to state when they visit, everything. They tell the parents on walk throughs about activities that are NEVER done, that we always stay in ratio ( which is so untrue it's funny), and so on. We were constantly in need of workers every single day and rather than follow the law, Morgans tried to save money where they could and would "make do" with the workers they had, which always left us out of ratio. Everybody complained and they would never solve that problem. It's all about money to them. Then state would come and everybody would rush around, moving children to different rooms, making it look like we were in ratio. I've witnessed this personally three times. Then some of the room leads would laugh about how we got away with it. I could go on and on about this place but I think I've said enough. Worst job experience I've ever had, and I would never send my kids to Morgans.
06/25/2009Brownell Elementary School
This is an excellent school. The Principal, Valeria Shepard, canvased the neighborhood, met parents, and asked them to return there children to the neigborhood school. She encouraged parents to be present as much as they liked and worked with the teachers and staff ensuring that parents and staff worked together to educate children. She did not have all the answers, but the answers she did have, she implemented. She has been transferred, and though that is not a happy thought, the incoming administration will continue to encourage the good that has been done as they add to the policies already in place. Flint schools educate children well and the Flint community should conitnue to support the efforts of the teachers, staff and administration as they endeavor to educate children. The school is clean insideand out. Teachers, staff and the leadership all work to keep children safe. Tehy doin't just work the slated hours, they work a great deal of overtime and the Principal set the example. Every staff person at this school gave until it hurt to be sure that students are provided a safe, clean, structured learning environment. Consider Brownell Elementary or any of the Flint Community Schools for your child's educational needs.
