I want to thank Dr. Samsell and Dawn for their tender touch with Emme. I brought her in for sedation for a 10 hour drive. She is terribly scardy cat, but with the calm and gentle manner in which she was examined you would never know it. The drive took 12 hours and I had to dose her tiwce. She fought and cried (weakly) for about 2 hours and then finally settled down. She's adjusting to her new home (she is an only child now) but will never be fan of travel! Thanks for your care and concern!

I have never met nicer people than the ones working at Catcare. They were so compassionate when I brought in my dog for his normal vaccines and found him to have worms. Naturally I freaked out, but they kept me calm, eased my fears and concerns and treated my dog like their own. They REALLY care about the animals AND the people here. I highly recommend this vet. Everyone is just amazing!!

I want to thank Dr. Shea for giving Duke a peaceful passing. She and her assistant, Dawn were very gentle and caring. They treated him with respect and tenderness he deserved. He had a great 20 years, but it was time for this old warrior to finally rest. I miss him very much, but am thankful for all the years of love, laughter, and companionship he provided.

The gentle handling of my once wild stray cat was heart warming. Rarely have I had a vet who didin't ultimately treat my pet as a means to an end. The end being a new Mercedes. These guys are great!!

Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
