Abel Pet Clinic
Dr. Byam and the entire Abel Team are absolutely amazing. We've been seeing them for many years now and every experience surpasses 5 star service. I must admit, I'm a difficult parent to deal with. I want only the best for my pet kids and I get it every time. Even when we just drop in with a rescue they do everything they can. We started with Abel with a pet who had been mis-diagnosed by another vet in Midtown Sac for over 2 years. Dr. Byam knew exactly what was wrong and our little son who'd been suffering for so long was cured within days. She even helped us through the tragedy of a fight with cancer for our oldest. I can't imagine having to go through that experience without her compassionate help. If you are looking for the best vet in California, look no further than Abel!

Abel Pet Clinic
I have been a client of Abel Pet Clinic since Dr. Byam took over the practice. Abel Pet Clinic has not only cared for my personal pets, but my many foster dogs through Pug Rescue of Sacramento, Pugsavers, and 4 R Friends. From adoption to the final appointment, Abel Pet Clinic has provided exceptional diagnostics, treatment, and general well-being to my animals. The entire staff has treated my pets with the love and care that they would provide their own personal animals. I am forever grateful to the compassion that I have experienced at Abel Pet Clinic for over a decade.

Abel Pet Clinic
We've been going to Dr. Byam and the team at Abel for years now, after having a nightmarish experience with another vet. Dr. Byam has saved our dogs lives and health more times than I can count, and found problems that other vets had repeatedly missed. We have been through everything from injuries to cancer, and I don't know how we could make it without knowing that we could trust them help us through the tough times with our four-legged kids.

after I spent several thousand dollars on treatments for my Jack Russell terrier for a throat problem, including a couple of exploratory surgeries, I was in encouraged to check out ABEL pet clinic. Dr. Byam diagnosed the problem as simple gingivitis.teeth cleaning solved the problem.I trust Dr Byam with my Jack Russell and my cat, who tends to fight a lot.

Bradshaw Veterinary Clinic Inc
Amazing veterinary hospital. The staff are great and super caring. Great outdoor ranch setting. Animals and their families love this place!
Tips & Advices
Most 24-hour clinics do not allow owners to stay with their pets overnight. However, many do have specific visiting hours or will let owners see their pets at any point during the day. In addition, owners can call most clinics at any time for an update on their pet's well being.
  • Important phone numbers, especially those of the the veterinary clinic, the animal hospital or emergency clinic, and the poison control center
  • A book detailing pet first-aid steps
  • Copy of medical records
  • Nylon leash
  • Muzzle (only use if pet is not vomiting and has no difficulty breathing)
  • Absorbent gauze
  • Nonlatex disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Nail clippers
  • Digital thermometer
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting only at the recommendation of a veterinarian
  • Milk of magnesia (to absorb poison only at the recommendation of a veterinarian)
Find a 24-hour animal hospital that provides emergency services within your area. Keep the facility's contact information in a place that's easy to locate, such as the refrigerator, address book, or smartphone. Most veterinary clinics operate on standard business hours and are not equipped to handle emergencies.
Veterinary clinics operate on a smaller scale than animal hospitals. The latter are more likely open 24 hours and provide emergency services. The former generally operate on typical office hours and only perform wellness exams and minor surgeries. Veterinary clinics also do not generally perform laboratory tests on site.
The specifics vary depending on the type of visit. For a wellness exam, bring:
  • Medical records
  • The type or brand of food the pet eats
  • Medication (including flea, tick, and heartworm medication).
If the animal needs medical treatment, the following may be helpful depending on the situation:
  • Fresh stool sample
  • Vomit sample
  • Video of the pet engaging in abnormal behavior
  • Substance the pet may have ingested
