Patriot Palms
I gave two stars because I'm not a hater but even then I'm not sure that's accurate. Two stars is supposed to mean "Fair" but the management here is anything but fair. I'll admit that initially I was excited to find such a nice looking place. I put down a deposit on an upcoming rental that was supposed to be available in two days. Unfortunately two days turned into almost three weeks. The management had a convenient way of not answering the phone and were always busy or not in the office. This was a huge red-flag for me so I asked for the deposit back. Sergio, the over-weight, creepy guy in the back that had a rather rude way of eye-balling my wife claimed nothing short of a law-suit was going to make that happen. Uhhh, that makes it kinda hard for a soldier relocating that simply wants a place for his family to live. We went above him and after a firm chastising by his superior we were able to finally move in to our place. The apartments look real nice on the inside but are infested with cockroaches. The first night I woke with a huge one crawling across my back. I'm not afraid of bugs, although I find these ones disgusting, and am thankful it wasn't my wife. They told me it had been sprayed while signing paperwork but I'm not sure I believe that. I took to spraying everything other day and it was almost amazing how many cockroaches I'd find dead on the daily. After about two months I would find them outside the front door dead but rarely inside. We had several maintenance calls and it took a couple months to get simple things like vents that weren't painted shut. Some things like a drawer that fell apart was never repaired so we just stopped using it. We were upset when our air conditioning was switched over to heat while the temperatures were still hovering around the mid-90's. Lynn, a really nice woman, told me we'd have to pay $50 to turn the air back on while admitting it was their fault for switching everything over too early. I received a warning/veiled threat to fine me for trash found outside my apartment area that didn't belong to me nor did I even know about. I received another warning/threat to fine me for a trailer on the property that was authorized by upper management but bothered Sergio. Have you ever had that awful manager or something at work and wonder how this guy got hired in the first place much less made his way a few rungs up the ladder? I imagine that's how Lynn must feel every single day. In summing things up, Patriot Palms looks like a super nice place up front, but is closer to the crazy ex-girlfriend you found attractive but couldn't escape. Oh, and P.S. I received 1/4 of my deposit back three months later after being assured by Lynn that everything looked great. I think somebody a step above got his grubby fingers into something not belonging to him.

Puerta Villa
My family lived in this complex for 4.5 years. Overall we enjoyed our time here, but when the time came for us to move we were shocked by their move-out policies. We were given a cleaning list with correlating prices and the amount they would charge to clean (JUST CLEAN, not repair or replace anything) the apartment was over $700. We were moving on short notice and we have 4 children so I knew I wasn't going to have the time or energy to worry about cleaning every single thing in the apartment, like the blinds and fans and oven, so we expected to receive some charges. What we didn't expect is that they charged us to replace the entire apartment's carpet. We have 4 kids so the carpet in the main living areas was worn (bearing in mind we lived there for 4.5 years) but there were rooms where the carpet was perfect. But they don't just replace the carpet in rooms that were worn, they take all of it out so we were charged to replace all of the apartment's carpet. We have lived in apartments for over 13 years and have never experienced move-out policies like the ones that Puerta Villa has. We have a sense that we are being robbed and there's nothing we can do about it. Also, after we moved we called the office 4 times over a period of a few weeks, trying to find out how much of our deposit we would get back or how much we would be charged, and every time we were told these words verbatim, "By law we have 30 days to determine the final statement." Each time we called we requested to speak to the manager, and each time we were told they would have her call us back. She never called us once. The fifth time we called it was 34 days after our move-out date and again we were told they didn't have a final statement and the manager was busy, but we said we would hold until she was able to talk. Six days later the complex office called and said the statement was ready and we said they could email it. When we looked at the statement it was post-dated, showing it was issued 30 days after our lease's end. I called the apartment and requested they send a corrected statement showing today's date and the manager said it was impossible for her to make changes. She also said that they had never said "by law we have 30 days to finish the statement", which is a lie. She herself had said those exact words to my husband face-to-face before we left El Paso. I don't even know if there is a law saying they have 30 days or if that's the way they get residents to stop asking, but I do know that more than once we have been lied to by this office. This isn't even the first occasion we have been lied to by the office. We feel their policies are shady and maybe even unethical. We communicated this information to Fort Bliss housing services so they will be aware and be able to let incoming soldiers know before they decide where to live.

Mountain View At Southgate Apartments
We rent a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment. The size is decent, we have wood floors and a fireplace. I feel like all we have done is hemorrhage money, though. I was told completely different numbers over the phone and through email. When we arrived we had to pay almost $800 to move it, that is $200 more than our monthly rent. We had to pay $425 for our cat! I'm sorry, but I've never heard of a place charging that much money for a pet deposit. The online rent pay is awful, it never shows the amount you owe. We moved in a month ago and our dishwasher has been leaking/broken since day one. We've complained every day, and no one has come to repair it. This place is very expensive, and we were told that they had 8 laundry facilities. The closest one I could find is two washers and two dryers that are shared between maybe 30+ apartments. We go to a laundromat instead. They have designated areas for your dogs. Little areas fenced in with grass. I also don't think they even enforce their breed restrictions or weight limits. I've seen pit bulls and great danes here. So, all dogs welcome from what I can see! I should've kept my mouth shut about my cat and saved myself $425. The complex is noisy, located by a small college, busy streets, and an airport. Overall, if you have plenty of money saved up, I would recommend living here. If you are broke, I'd avoid it. Because they will take everything you have. Also, lie about your dogs breed and weight. Everyone else is doing it.

Camino Real Apartments
My family has lived here since 1998. We looked all over East El Paso and could find nothing to compare to Camino Real. The apartment is large, clean and the staff is friendly and responsive (the maintenance staff DOES speak English as well as Spanish), if something breaks they fix or replace it promptly. The construction is concrete and concrete block so noise from adjacent units is all but non-existent and insulation is good enough that we rarely use the heat in the winter, the fireplace will easily heat the entire apartment. Winter 2010-2011 when the temperature went down to only 1 degree, we remained warm even during the rolling blackouts. The central air conditioning is FAR superior to swamp coolers. Were it not for these points we would have moved long ago.Key points:1) large apartments2) friendly responsive (English & Spanish speaking) staff3) beautiful, well maintained grounds4) solid concrete walls between apartments (excellent noise suppression & fire protection)5) ample parking

Mesa Ridge Apartments
While apartment shopping i was very stressed and going thru a lot. I went to about 10 apartments and either the price was too high for me or the staff was just plain rude and didnt care about my needs. Mesa Ridge (Hillside Apts) was about the 5th one that I had looked at but still wanted to look around to see if I will find anything better. But boy was I wrong, Mesa Ridge Apartments had the total package for me, great prices and with exceptional service. As soon as I walked in I felt right at home and the office staff from the leasing to the manager were friendly and helpful. The apartment I got was in excellent condition and I LOVE living here. I will recommended and have done so, to my friends and family.

Mountain View At Southgate Apartments
We lived here for almost 2 years and had a horrible experience our first year. However there is new management who are a lot nicer and more helpful! Since under new management i have enjoyed our time here. I have had no problems since than. The only thing is the machine to put money on your laundry card is in the office and when they close you cant get to the money machine in time to put money on your card. I wish the machine was in the laundry areas. other than that my stay here since new management has been a good experience. If i was asked before to recommend this place i would say no but now i say yes because of new management and how nice they are!

The Reserve at Sandstone Ranch Apartments
I moved here when I got stationed at Ft Bliss. Stayed here all three years, didn't think of moving. This last year has been awesome. Management has changed a bit but at least for the better and many of the horrible dog owners who refuse to pick up after their dogs have left. Management had to crack down but it was getting out of hand and I love the fact that they don't allow them to let their dogs in the pool areas. If I wanted to bath with a dog, I'd get one. The resident functions are fantastic, good food, good drinks, and you get to meet new people. I am sad to go to Germany but I am close to getting out and plan to come back here.

The Quest at Edgemere
Not signing the lease for another year. The apartments are well maintained and look very nice, but management is terrible. They don't give you a notice when someone's going to come to service the unit, they just decide to help themselves in.I had just come out of the shower once and found the pest control employee inside the apartment. They also like to come in when no one is there, they leave a little note saying they were there and that's it. I personally don't like strangers going in when I'm not watching over my belongings. You have no privacy and it does not feel like home, it feels like you're living in a college dorm.

Colores Del Sol Apts Office
Location is close to everything I need so that's a plus. The staff is tremendously friendly and helpful. Any issues I have are usually resolved within 24 hours and it's very easy to get ahold of someone. I hate carpet flooring so they installed wood flooring immediately. Neighbors are respectful and are comfortable to be outside unlike most apartments lol. The home was clean when we moved in and you can tell they did cosmetic touch ups. So far, the only bad thing is that the appliances are a little older. Overall, it's great for the price and totally worth it.

Mesa Ridge Apartments
My experience here has been great. I'm sad to leave but my job has relocated me. The office staff here has always been very pleasant and helpful. The maintenance is very kind and quick. I never had to call the office twice on a work order that I submitted instead they have always called me to let me know the job was finished. The property is very quiet. I work long hours and I really appreciate that. I enjoy the amenities and I hope my next Apartment experience is like I have had here. Thank you.
