Burke Dermatology
We normally don’t take the time to write reviews but when you have a good Medical experience we find ourselves compelled to show our appreciation for the treatment we received. This summer my wife and I traveled north from Florida to visit our son and our daughter’s families. We were going to have some skin tags removed here in the Tampa area but our daughter recommended that we could get it done up north at the Burke Dermatology office in Dover, De. Since my wife and I are now reaping the benefits of being retired, enjoying the grandkids, etc.. we figured, why not? Now, we have been to many Dermatologists over the years but we have to say that this experience was unique in many ways. We arrived before our appointment time, did the necessary paperwork and waited less than 10 minutes to be seen by P.A. Gerard Stroup. We were first impressed that even though we were there at 4:00 P.M. the physician’s upbeat attitude was as if we were his first patients of the day. He greeted us with a handshake and a smile and then listened to our concerns with genuine interest. He then addressed all our concerns, explained our options for treatment and made us feel relaxed. Next he performed a thorough skin cancer screening, naming and explaining what every little mark was, which was quite reassuring. We then had our treatments for skin tag removal and felt that he was completely knowledgeable, experienced and conducted himself in a professional manner. He then informed us on what to expect in the days to come and everything went exactly as he said. We strongly recommend that all retirees and anyone for that matter to visit P.A. Gerard Stroup in Burke Dermatology in Dover, De. When we head north next time to visit the kids we will be back to this office for our Dermatology needs.

All I can say is A+! Gerard Stroup the PA located in the Dover office is phenomenal! I used to work at Burke's Dermatology so I knew what to look for and what most skin conditions are. So when I noticed a pink round spot on my mother's shoulder I knew it was skin cancer. That wasn't the problem, the problem was getting her in to be seen because she doesn't have health insurance nor like doctors. But I finally talked her into it. We got her appointment immediately and the waiting to be seen was tolerable as well! When she was seen the PA automatically looked over areas of skin that my mother would allow scalp, neck, arms, chest and back. He agreed with me that the spot on her shoulder was odd and he also noticed a spot on her chest that I did not. He took to biopsy's to confirm he findings. The shoulder came back as Basal Cell Carcinoma and the chest came back as Melanoma. We were shocked and scared about how to take care of this being that she doesn't has insurance. Gerry worked with us gave us a discount for her office visit as well as the pathology report. Which was so nice of him! But what really rocked our world was that him and a medical assistant looked into the hope clinic and health programs to covers people who are not eligible for Medicaid and don't have enough money to pay for health insurance. Wow is all I can say! My mother is getting her skin cancers treated for free and also will be getting screened for life! I have nothing but great words to say about this man! I highly recommend seeing Gerard Stroup in the Dover office!

In Miami I had started my tattoo removal and had agreed to $1200 for complete removal with a Dr. down there. I paid $600 my first session and owed $600 more for total. After moving up here, I was in search of a new Dr. with the hopes I could get a discount(maybe a couple hundred off)- I didn't want to pay the full $1200 again, I was very disappointed after contacting multiple derms to be quoted at sometimes even more than $1200. I luckily came across and contacted Dr. Burke by email about Picosure Laser removal. Not only did he respond quickly and appointment me quickly, but he price matched the $600 I had left on my Florida tab and took off an extra $100 for good measure! I have been in for 3 sessions with Dr. Burke and I couldn't ask for more, he is very professional and a very cool guy. I highly recommend him.

What great visit! Dr. Burke was wonderful with my daughter (2 years) and very informed as to what was going on with her. His staff was wonderful and cheerful and even made her a balloon animal! I would highly recommend this office to anyone. I read the other reviews and honestly don't know what they are talking about. My time there was fast fun and I would have anyone go there! My mother and sister already have appointments set up. Go see for yourself, this office is one of the best!

I recently saw PA Gerry Stroup at the Dover office.I live in New Jersey and have been seeing Gerry for many years, as I have many skin issues. When he moved to Delaware, I was pretty upset. I knew a 15 minute drive to my appointment would turn into a 2 hour drive. In my mind, I didn't have a choice. He is the best! Professional & very Knowledgeable. It's always a pleasure to see him & the staff. I even bring my children because I know they will receive the best treatment.

My elderly aunt and myself were seen by the Pa in this office and we both were treated for different reasons and were diagnosed and treated correctly and thoroughly. He is very knowledgeable and caring in his treatment especially with my aunt who needed a little extra tlc. I would recommend this office to everyone, it's nice to be welcomed by warm office staff and excellent care.

Courteous staff and thorough ear exam. Dr. Wright was kind and answered all my questions. I have seen many ENT doctors from years of ear issues and moving across country and she ranks high in my book. I'm glad I didn't allow the lack of internet reviews to prevent me from visiting her.
Tips & Advices
This depends on the facility. Patients should call to find out if they'll need a referral from their physician prior to making an appointment.
Aside from hyperbaric oxygen treatment, most wound care centers offer:
  • Debridement: The removal of dead skin and tissue surrounding the wound. This can be done surgically, using a whirlpool bath, syringes, enzymes that dissolve the tissue, or wet dressings that dry on the wound and absorb the dead tissue.
  • Dressing: Wrapping the wound in a protective film, gauze, gel, or foam.
  • Compression stockings: Tight-fitted fabric sheaths that encourage blood flow.
  • Artificial skin: A covering that is applied to the wound for several days as it heals.
  • Ultrasound: The use of sound waves to promote healing.
  • Growth factor therapy: The use of materials naturally produced by the body to encourage quick cell growth.
  • Negative pressure therapy: Creating a vacuum around a wound to encourage faster blood flow to the area.
Depending on where the treatment is administered, hyperbaric oxygen treatment  can cost $100- $1,000. After insurance is applied, patients may have a copay of $10 -$50 or a coinsurance fee of 10 percent to 50 percent.
Most wounds should heal within two to six weeks. An individual should seek chronic wound treatment if a wound has not begun to heal after two weeks or is not completely healed after six.
Most health insurance plans cover wound care. Patients should check with the clinic and their health insurance provider before seeking treatment to be sure.
