I am a huge National fan and think they usually do an amazing job. Getting your care with Emerald Club is a snap and you always have a great selection. The one thing to know about Des Moines, however, is it is one of those small locations without an Emerald Club row so you can't just pick up your car. Therefore, getting in very late at night (after midnight because there had been storms) I was very disappointed with having to wait in a long line to get a car, even though I was Emerald Club. Then, they asked me to pick from a couple of cars. They gave me a Ford Explorer (pretty standard for Emerald Club), however, upon returning my car, the gentleman providing my receipt was surprised and pointed out they charged me an extra $40 per day for the upgrade (total $80 which almost doubled my cost), which even he thought was odd!! I was very disappointed that this was not something told to me upfront and unfortunately did not have time to discuss it with them as I was on my way to my flight. I will choose the cheaper car rental place instead next time time I'm going to Des Moines.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car
I have rented from them before and they are great. They are close to my house so it is nice. This time I was planning a vacation and was going to be gone for 2 weeks. I made my reservation online and called them right after to make sure they got it. I asked for an SUV like an Equinx or Rogue. They said they couldn't promise but would try. The day before I leave I go pick up the car. They have a suburban, 3 minivans or a truck. Not what I wanted. I asked if any other enterprises have SUV like I wanted and he said he called and they didn't. So being upset I took a van and came home right away and called several other enterprises. The Enterprise at the airport had exactly what we wanted. I was very upset because I was lied to. Just tell me next time you didn't call. I will just rent from the airport from now on even though it is farther.

I have had mixed expereinces at DSM. Generally, they are good and it seems that I as travel there more frequently, the level of service I receive has improved. As an Executive Elite Emerald Ailse member I am accustomed to complimentary upgrades through the ailse. At DSM they sometimes provide the upgrade and sometimes not. It seems this is dependent on how the agent is feeling on a particular day, although I have noticed a trend of improvement over the past several months. Overall the vehicles have been OK, they are generally clean and in good condition when I rent, and I can usually get a car I like for my trip.

Alamo Rent A Car
All went well with the rental process. I am waiting to hear back if my prescription sunglasses were found. My frustration is that a customer cannot get through to a person at the counter in the airport. If someone would have picked up the phone, or at least returned my call the same day, I'm certain someone at the Des Moines counter could have easily retrieved my sunglasses before the car went out again. Simple as that. I will acknowledge that someone is trying to help me locate my sunglasses...waiting to hear back.

When I approached the counter the CSRs were busy in a non work discussion and treated my appearance at the counter as a nuisance. I did not receive a verbal greeting and the woman in the center just pointed at another CSR to help me. This was a priceline rental so I did not choose National, but I will certainly doubt that I will choose this location when I have other choices. They also did not have my car class available and downgraded me. Very unsatisfying experience.

I may have waited for my car, however the young lady behind the counter was very kind and brought the car to the curb for me. That was especially appreciated since I had ripped my MCL in my knee. It was stressed beyond comfort after running through Atlanta and then Des Moines. I truly appreciated all the care and concern they showed me. They were helpful in finding a replacement after my reserved vehicle class was sold out. My hats off to this National location.

Unfortunately this is one of the National locations where you can't just pick your car from the lot and go. You have to stand in a line like every other place. This location doesn't seem to be very organized as they have frequently not had my reservation ready or somehow removed my emerald number from my reservation. National is still a great way to go but don't expect what you get at larger airports from this location.

The DSM National rental car counter has provided me with great service every time I use them. On my latest trip, my flight was delayed and didnt arrive until 12:40 AM. I thought they would have closed up and left by then but no, the agent was cheerfully waiting for me at the counter with a nice car ready to go. I will always rent from them!

It's a small airport so you don't have the luxury of a larger one. The people were nice, they did call a mini van an "upgrade". Other than that it was as I'm used to at airports of this size. Nothing exceptional nothing disappointing. This Florida native would have loved if the car was pre warmed, but hey that's traveling in winter.

No emerald aisle to pick cars from. The selection was smaller cars than other National Locations. However, the service at the counter was exceptional the agent was so helpful and willing to offer each car available and even offered to walk outside to look at cars with me. Midwest hospitality at its best. Awesome Job.
